Currently I have the very first 360 ever released. Doesnt support HDMI or 1080p. I have a great TV for games and I have a PS3.
Looking for a list of games that would look good and are Xbox 360 exclusives that may make buying a new 360 worth it

You already own a PS3, so you're covered as far as video playback goes, so you don't really need anything more than 720p on the 360 given no game as far as I know renders over that natively on the system, unless your great TV has a shitty upscaler for some reason.
nah its a sony bravia, has a good upscaler. Also trying to justify buying the Elite.. fucking everything in my entertainment system is black then got this big ass white xbox 360 hahaha..
Other than the Halo games I couldnt really think of any 360 exclusives anymore =/
I got an arcade from dell for 140 brand new, it made justifying the cost very easy
Arcades are only white unfortunately. ;/
At any rate, how is the USB-storage update from awhile ago? One of my main complaints of the Arcade is that it's a rip-off value-wise compared to the Elite due to lack of hard drive. But granted, if you can use any old stick for the odd XBLA title it'd be less of a problem given Microsoft still upmarks the price on their HDs waaaaay too much.
Decent enough, I use an old 8 gig "Geek Squad" branded stick for extra storage, the built in 512 (minus room for the update) works well enough for saves. I just have the memory stick in case I want to download a video or whatnot, since I don't have much of a use for xbox Live.
YMMV on what types of cards are supported by the 360
I was using the first gen 360 as well up until a couple of months ago, I ordered the white arcade from dell ($159 before tax, free shipping) and I have to say the cooling and sound levels from this jasper unit are night and day from the first gen 360, I am very happy with my purchase.
I'll sell you mine right now for 80$. Been trying to get rid of it.
I'm more confused as to why people think the original xbox360 can't do 1080p...
(It can)
I could only get 1080i out of my old one, unless I was missing something?
The 1080p option in the menu?
I have 3 original model xenons around and they all do 1080p over component if set to it.
1080p =/= HDMI, which is what most people seem to think.
I would wait until after E3... Haven't there been rumors about XBOX 360 possibly having a slim model soon?
Xbox360 have games you want to play? Justified.
Can't afford it? Buy milk, bread, and gas instead.
360 cant do true 1080p, its all images upscaled to 1080 lines of resolution. its not worth the upgrade, just set it to 1080p with component
.-. is owning a system to play 1 series of games that important? you could do a lot more with 140-200$ then you probably think you could, I'd suggest just toughing it out, 1080p is not supported by all games, and up scaling the ones that do not support it, imo make it look like crap.
With the current age of the 360 I wouldn't be surprised if this year they started making patents for a new system, and starting to develop the design and hardware specifications for it and be ready to announce it being made at E3 next year or TGS or some other big gaming confrence that I cannot think of right now.
The system is getting old, and out dated, the reason why it has had a strong third party was due to its easy to make games on the console where as it was not so simple to make software for PS3 and no one really loves the Wii, but with developers sucking it up you're going to start to see more third party applications on the PS3 over 360 in the up coming year or so, it's already started its just starting to pick up momentum.
But, it's not my money I'm just giving you a heads up to think of what it could do for you in the future and not what it will do for you today, gl with your decision :D
(btw I own a 360 and it collects more dust then my Wii lol)
Yes, actually, it can. http://www.xbox.com/en-gb/community/...stemupdate.htm
At release it didn't, but it was updated to allow for it years ago.
While I know component can do 1080p fine I was under the assumption it couldn't do it through component on the 360 because MS disabled it. That's what a friend told me back when he tried to fart out 1080p out of his component anyway. The 360 wouldn't let him. Been a while though, so I don't remember exactly how it was. Maybe it's just EU machines, wouldn't be the first time MS blocks something in EU consoles: old Xbox had 480p in US machines but didn't in EU machines because MS thought the HD TV market wouldn't pick up here as fast (they were right, but still a shit move XD)
Think I even tried to do the same on my release 360 after he did on his 360 and didn't work either. Since I was out of warranty I just got a Jasper Arcade 360 to replace it, which rocks the HDMI anyway.
I have a white 360 and I want an elite just bc its black (although a bigger hdd would be nice) I'm going to paint it this summer. Don't feel like shelling out more for it.
Pretty much this. The last game I played on my 360 was Bayonetta and I don't see anything in the foreseeable future change that unless it's a new game with a shitty PS3 port, i.e. Bayonetta.
Unless you're a huge Halo/Xbox Live fan, I'd save the cash for other games and just paint your system black. Not that hard to be honest, at least from what I've seen, my little brother has a hobby of disassembling systems to draw/paint sick designs on them.
