FFGear iPhone App

A few months back when the FFXIGear site went away, I remember a lot of people really seemed upset to lose this tool. So I decided to take this concept and bring it to an iPhone App.

Last week apple approved my FFXI Gear Simulator (iTunes Link) for sale at the itunes store.

The main functionality of this app is to allow you to create a character, load it up with gear of your choosing and provide for you the appropriate stats (str, dex, hp, attk, rattk, etc...). Also to provide you with your projected combat statistics vs your choice of mob (high/low dmg, acc, ws dmg, etc...)

v1.0 is currently available for sale, v1.1 has been submitted and is awaiting approval and v1.2 is currently in development.

A Few bugs have been found in 1.0, as was expected. Heavier use uncovered a few things that I had missed in the testing period.

1. Unfortunately the "Update App Data" process will take an unnecessarily long time... This process goes out to the net and grabs updated plists containing crucial data for this app along w/any item icons that are missing... in v1.0 the app will ALWAYS grab ALL of the item icons... whoops. Thats just under 6,800 1-4kb files. This is fixed in v1.1

2. PUP's h2h selection caused a crash, malformed string in the pup skill plist. fixed in v1.1

3. +/- % stat bonuses on items were being calculated wrong and would reflect the wrong updated stat #s due to this. This is fixed in v1.2


If you find any discrepancy with calculated values, crashes, or any other weird behavior in this app.... please either post it here or on my support site (link).

I'd LOVE to do this, but ad revenue on iPhone apps has (article discussing this) proven to be a failure. As it is, i feel that $1.99 is a fair price for all the data this app will provide you. Not to mention the time I've invested and continue to invest in the development and support of this app.

Just downloaded it myself. Going to need to play around with it a bit more before I can give any feedback! Will say this much though I've been wanting to see something like this for a long time now and am really glad someone finally made one.

$2.00 is a fucking steal for an FFXIGear App on the iPhone. I'd gladly pay $2.00 to have access to it again. Sadly, I do not have an iPhone, so I will continue to weep, hoping it will return to the internet one day.

I would like to eventually get this on multiple platforms, but since i'm an iPhone user and don't have a blackberry or any android device... it is iPhone only for the time being.

Really cool app from what I've seen so far. Only had a little time to play with it, but I have found a few problems that might need to be addressed.

1. When I was messing around with the merits I noticed you only allow for XX/5 upgrades to HP and MP.

2. I also noticed that you are missing quite a few of the HQ food options. No Marinara Pizza +1 for example.

3. Also in addition to experiencing the PUP weapon selection crashes I found that when attempting to select a WS while on MNK H2H I was given no WS options and the app crashed shortly after clicking the "Choose WS" button under Damage Calculations.

Will post again with any other problems I find, but seems like it will be a great app to play around on once these bug fixes are complete.

Was gonna ask how hard of a port do you think it would be, to get android 1.5+ compatibility? Would we be talking complete re-vamp, or possibly just a re-coding?

You dont need to be a user to create apps for the platform. Android actually provides everything you need to develop the apps for free, including an emulator.

I'd like to see a free one too, but I understand the $99 fee has to come from somewhere.

If it ends up being a big deal, I recommend after you recoup the 99 bucks from developer registration, and maybe 100 or 200 for your work, lower the price to 0.99.

But 1.99 is probably a steal, if it works well. I'll download in a bit and take a look.

Does anyone know what happened to the guys behind the ffxigear.com site? Any way to contact them, anything?

I'd happily host the site for them for free, but I can't even find any information about who was running the site. Their domain is registered through a proxy too, so I can't even get anything there.
