IE9: Standards Compliant and Sexy as Hell.

    http://samples.msdn.microsoft.com/ietestcenter/

Looks like Microsoft has finally turned their historically awful browser into something sleek and standards-compliant for its ninth incarnation. No more making alternate renderings for IE because of problems with the way it chooses to render CSS/SVG, it'll work right 100% of the time every time. Kudos to Microsoft for setting the bar that much higher so that the rest of the browsers might take the time to catch up and render pages properly.

Right now the preview scores 55/100 in the acid3 test. Still not good enough imo.

    (IE7 was 14/100 and IE8 was 20/100)

99% of users don't care about half this shit. It's good that they are upgrading but Firefox has features normal internet users want and can use/understand easily.

It still has ActiveX in it, and it probably has Silverlight as well.

No thanks, I'll stick with a browser that isn't compromised out of the box.

Can someone post a preview of how it looks like so I don't have to change my already rape (Chrome) browser?

Allowing developers to not have to bend over backwards to support IE is something that will help progress Web development to the next level, which in the end is good for you and me, the end user.

    Fucking this all day long.

Compatibility means shit if my system can still be easily compromised.

Sorry, I enjoy NoScript and AdBlock far too much to consider another browser. Get back to me when IE add-ons aren't a pain in the ass.

IE needs to change fundamentally for me to even consider using it. For something which has been face down in shit since the dawn of time, they need to be more than just 'cool' to start scraping off the dung. Firefox works great. Chrome is pretty nice too. Back in the renaissance when I was using mac, I used safari. Why on earth would I suddenly decide to go back to IE?

Passing tests does not a browser make.

Give me plug-ins and community-oriented add-ons that increase browser security and I'll consider it.

I hate IE, even though I love using it when I can't use Firefox.

MS just doesn't like people doing any custom content that isn't XBox-related.

if by rape you mean exceedingly uncomfortable, inconsiderate of what you want, and inspiring feelings of dirtiness then I agree, chrome is an incredibly rape browser

This won't be true until IE9's adoption exceeds that of, say, IE7.

So see you in about 3 years, by which time Chrome will be out of beta and Firefox will be out using google's lightning fast renderer.

My firefox absolutely can't deal with Facebook's chat, and apparently gmail steals and maintains memory overtime(even with the Memory Leakage addon) to the point where if I leave windows open for hours, firefox has now consumed over 1GB of memory.

No IE rider, but Firefox sure isn't living up to y'alls hype either.

Isn't the reason people don't use Internet Explorer because it is linked into the OS thus making it easier to hack your system through it and whatnot?

Hmm, that's weird. I leave my gmail open for days at a time and I've never had such an issue.

As Correction said for the most part, the benefits here won't "change" much considering developers in part are still having to support IE6 to an extent, so while it's good news to hear in some respects, until the non-compliant versions are slowly phased out over the years (or chrome and firefox take enough market share for devs to stop supporting non-compliant versions) it doesn't change a whole bunchers.
