    Yilbegan Resistance

So anyone who has fought T4 Wyrm thingy, knows that damage varies a lot. I've seen a bunch of rumors flying around about Wings up/down, spell casting, during tp, direction, etc... Decided to go run a fairly simply test. I was RNG/WAR, Veloshot + 2 Minuets + Pot-a-feu. (No Berserk) I stood 17.0 away and just shot from the side. I got a decent amount of data, and graphed damage vs time elapsed in seconds. Ranged damage is fairly consistent, so it was easy to see a pattern.

    http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/8453/damage2k.png

It appears to go into High and Low damage blocks, which I colored Blue and Red. Within each block you either get a high or low damage. My guess is on the damage blocks being determined by wings up/down, but I don't have any confirmation. (Sorry)

    Notes to consider:
-4 damage values showed up a lot. 118 and 53 (During Blue Blocks) and 63 and 16. (During Red Blocks)
-There were a few criticals which I divided by 1.25 and got a value that closely resembled a value that shows up a lot. The non-crit value was used for the graph.
-I didn't pay attention to dia on the mob, but the values were fairly static, so I don't see it being a huge problem.
-There were 104 shots that I graphed.
-Minuets wore off during that last red block for about ~60 seconds.

I don't think this is 100% conclusive, but I like patterns, and I think this will lead to the next step in figuring out the most effective ways to DD~

My ls observed the same thing as far as damage blocks with wings up/down. We noticed that with wings up physical damage would be unblocked and with wings down magic damage would be unblocked. Unfortunately sometimes there would still be those big spikes where damage would decrease greatly. Although it was only for a nuke here or a few ranged attacks there, then damage would be back to normal. I know that probably doesn't help much, but that's from what I've seen from our 3 fights (2wins 1 depop).

What is the range of this depop btw and can just one person mess it up? It did that Chaos Blast/Blade move and threw many of us far away and then it depopped (pet burning it)

Be in awe of my amazing paint skills.

Anyway, on pop I have the tank move it up a little bit, to give mages and RNG some more leeway in their ability to move around if needed, or in case of a tank death. Pretty sure depop range is 25', it may be 30' but I don't really feel like testing it. And that when current hate target is 25' away, not simply when Yilbegan walked outside of spawn radius.

Only TP it used when tanking on tail was Dancing Tail spam and the occasional Dark Star (which did not do mdef down - cast sacrifice on tank each time and nada). No meteor on either of ours yesterday, which is new since the two previous both did meteor.

The few times I fought it on RNG, I noticed the same thing. Basically, my damage had 3 modes: really low (like 20'ish), medium (50's to 60, depending on position), and normal (over 100.) Every bit of damage I had had those 3 modes, even WS's (sometimes I would WS really low, other times I would be around 800 w/o any BRD songs.)

I have heard 2 theories: the wings one mentioned above, and one about damage going up when he is casting a spell and/or readying an ability. I tend to discount the second one mainly because I would hit multiple shots for over 100, which I think would be hard/impossible if you had to catch him while casting or something.

Position does not seem to matter, but I think we knew this. The only perplexing thing to me is why the middle number? For instance, we know that if we are positioned wrong against Dark Ixion, our damage goes to shit (from good numbers, to like 20 per arrow.) There's no 'well, you were kinda right, so here is some ok damage' spot, no, you are either hitting in the head or the ass. With this, you are either hitting Yilbegan with wings up or down, so why the middle number? Does he just put one wing up sometimes (which is my guess, I never noticed if he did honestly)?

its anything past 25 and yes, one person can fuck it up. Also if you fight it in an area with trees or other structures that it can "climb" it will mess up the distance and the depop range will be lower. We've had it depop at 18-ish because of it getting stuck in a tree.

One thing my shell has noticed is that casting and TP moves make it more susceptible to dmg. I've definately been seeing the dual set of high/low dmg. Been going rng/nin with brd and cor in pt (ebow and demons). My lows are super low (12 dmg) then I'll get some mid highs (6oish dmg) then i get some 80s, then 117s. Like you I also saw the occasional high crit. We stand at 20.4 to avoid getting hit by dark star (if you still avoid it at 17 that would be even better). As a general rule we've been running in to WS when we see red or blue lines (TP and magic). If I time it not quite right i get sidewinder for 400ish, if I time it well my dmg is in the 800s. One time I got lucky and got a 910. If I ws without looking for lines I'm in the 200s. I think you have something with the wings up/down thing but I also think acting while it's using a TP move or casting magic matters.

My shell was playing around with this dragon a while back, and we noticed during casting its magic defense was lowered significantly, and when it was readying a TP move, its physical defense was lowered significantly but its magical defense was raised sky high, when wings are up, we think it gains a major defense and magical defense boost that remains until the wings come down, during while wings are up, he has access too meteor, and chaos blast weather or not he will use them, its just random spaghetti code that factors everything.

We noticed and have yet to be proven wrong thus far on 10 Yil's that:

Black magic has a chance to trigger Meteor (0 meteor in last 7 fights with no blms for dd's)

Small sample size, yeah, but looking that way to us. please share similar or conflicting results.

Also, people seemed hesitant to pull him far from pop place but just to debunk that myth we popped and pulled one about 300 yalms with no depop to a place we liked the terrain better.

One possible way to check the damage resistance is to bring several BSTs and have them use 1000 needles on Yilbegan.

Or skillchains or COR using quickdraw. Is it possible it's just any elemental damage?

(I know all of those things will change Erebus' element, f'rex.)
