    Wedding songs

    Hello BG.

I'm getting married and I'm having troubles finding songs for my fiance and I to dance to. I hardly listen to any kind of music and having trouble finding songs. The only song I know (And like) that I can dance to with my wife-to-be is Always and Forever (Luther Vanross). Any suggestions to what to dance to as my first dance? Oh, and I would also appreciate suggestions as to my dance with my mom. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I already asked my wife for Candyshop (50 cent) and she said no...

I could make a million joke picks, but I'm sure half the posters here will do so. Just wanted to post my absolute hatred for Luther's version of Always and Forever. He is a good singer but shit all over it. The original by Heatwave ftw.

Marc Cohn's True Companion. A nice slow song with poignant lyrics, it's sure to make someone cry. And nobody's going to be upset/offended/dislike the song. I'm getting married in July 2011, this will be my first song.

You kind of lost me here. I can't imagine life without music. I mean shit, I listen to 5+ hours of music daily.

As far as advice, is your fiance like you in regards to your lack of musical interest? If not, what does she like? Will it be a large wedding with lots of family or a smaller one with more friends? Larger you'll probably want to mix in some classics like Sinatra, for smaller less formal receptions you could probably go with more contemporary R&B and whatnot.

Unless you're trying to make some kind of statement, your first dance should be a slow classic love song.

But seriously, use it for your wedding. It would be great.

    First and foremost, congrats!

Here's a list I just quickly googled of typical songs: http://www.wedalert.com/songs/firstdance/index.asp.

Are you and your soon-to-be wife deadset on having a first dance? Or are you guys doing it out of "tradition"? Because you really don't HAVE to do a first dance. For my wedding, I'm not having any dancing (along with lots of other "traditional" crap I'm omitting)... but I will have music (that I like) play. Such as Bright Eyes "First Day of My Life", Magnetic Fields "Nothing Matters When We're Dancing", Nick Drake "Northern Sky", Andrew Bird, Sigur Ros, etc.

Good luck to you and congrats again.

    edit:
On second thought--if your fiance is basically doing the wedding planning (like I am, damn you lazy guys ) and you don't really care one way or another, just have her pick a song and dance!

I didn't have a traditional wedding by any means. Hell, we got married in flip flops. However, if you don't have alcohol and dancing at a wedding, your wedding is a failure and I don't want to go it. There's nothing "traditional" or cliche about dancing. Cliche is your wedding party walking out to canon in d and the bride coming out to the march. I guess I can understand omitting dancing for a small, intimate crowd. If your having 100+ people at your event, throw them a damn bone.

The hardest part of planning our wedding was, hands down, picking all the music. It took longer than everything else combined.

I think your wife needs to know that you're getting married, and your fiance should know that you're married.

"Another One Bites the Dust" - Queen.

Could at least use it for your intro music at the reception.

well my wedding is during the day/early afternoon on Sunday and the venue doesn't have a big place for dancing. It'll be a small, intimate (40 people max) wedding. I also won't be providing alcohol (again, time of day). But if people want alcohol, I told them they can BYOB.

It's a wedding for mostly family. About 90 people. She likes country, but I like R&B and rock. First dance is because I am taking a few dance lessons for her as my wedding gift because I am a notoriously bad dancer in my family.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

HOLY SHIT ARE WE GETTING MARRIED?!

Holy fuck, NOT joking I was driving home from ordering linens for my reception and was thinking to make a thread about this because there seems to be a severe lack of good modern day love songs that can be slow danced to.I've been putting it off but my wedding is in a month and I really want to get this out of the way so I went to general to make the thread and saw this.

    No joke. Creepy as fuck.

    ANYWAY

With that said people better come up with some good ones cause I want to avoid doing Wonderwall which seems to be the standard fall back song. lol

My wife and I danced to an all instrumental Beatles song. I forget exactly which one.

Oh shit, wait I think that was what we walked down the isle to... now I can't remember our first dance song.

We had a shitty DJ and I think they picked a random song maybe?

By the time you get to the first dance you are so tired and worn out you don't really give a fuck nor do you hear the music.

The actual wedding day goes very quickly, at least it did for me. It was so much preparation and planning and setting up and such.
