hand washing clothes?

anyone have any experience with this? I don't want to fuck up my clothes or anything.


I touch back down in Florida tomorrow. I've been informed the water at home is on, but the power is out again. So, I won't be able to use the washing machine.

I'd just go to the laundromat, but as you all know, I ride a bicycle, so transporting my clothing to and from would be a hassle. I was thinking of just washing yesterday's clothes every day and hanging them to dry in the back yard.

its pretty simple, although i only do it for my delicates. Just put a bit of detergent in the bottom of your cleaning vessel, such as sink with plug, and then fill with cold water. Put in dirty clothes and swish around, let soak for 10 minutes or so (you can't really oversoak). Drain soapy water and fill will clean, swish around. Repeat process until you are confident your clothes are no longer soapy.

Lightly wring out, and hang to drip-dry. If you are doing heavier stuff you can wring them out a bit more. There are specific rules for wools, but I assume you are not washing any sweaters.

Washing clothes at home sucks. It's a lot easier and faster to go to the laundry mat. It's probably better for your clothes too.
