Rift vs FFXIV

I'm thinking about getting into a game over the summer and I'm torn between rift and ffxiv. I've played both ffxi and wow extensively and enjoyed both. Just curious to what the bgers think about both games and which would be the best choice to invest time into.

Avoid XIV. Rift isn't a golden game, but its miles ahead of XIV.

Also just wondering why it has to be a MMORPG in specific?

Play wow.. Rift is a worse version of that game. Rift does everything wow does but makes it more grindy and less polished. WoW has it's issues, but only thing rift does different is dynamos Rifts (Que Beseiged ad Conquest).. And neither of those stayed interesting for a prolonged period of time.

And honestly, I fucking love Rift. Saying that WoW is "more polished" than Rift is fucking retarded. The game came out what... seven years ago? If Rift sticks around for seven years I imagine that it might have some of its minor kinks worked out....

They actually had the collector's edition boxes on sale at GameStop during the whole power saver sale, 39.99, or at least it was at the two GameStops near me. Think they might still be in the value bin at this point too.

I never played WoW, but I found Rift to be fun for about a month (I started at launch). I suppose if I'd played WoW, I would have played Rift even less.

Rift to me it was bascially a single player game with a persistant world and a lot of instances. Just wasn't my cup of tea. I didn't find getting to max level in about 3 weeks of casual play very fun or engaging. I didn't develop any sort of connection with my character, the world, other players or any lore.

World PvP was fun with my guild for awhile, but meh. War fronts were fun at first, but then degraded into shit.

Rift DD keys on ebay for ~20 bucks. You can save a few on subscription fees by buying a 3 month block too.

I play XIV and k-tera. XIV mostly cause of friends who still play and I find spending time with them enjoyable & it's free.

Lemme start this off by saying, holy shit you are an idiot. Of course WoW is more polished. It came out 7 years ago you retard.

If it's a toss-up between FFXIV and Rift, go with Rift. It's actually going places. Trion has already shown themselves to be a good company with people that tend to listen at least somewhat. FFXIV on the other hand is going nowhere. Anyone who preferred FFXIV over Rift is a fucking cavetroll and needs to learn what a goddamn video game is.

Edit: Another thing about Rift: If you played WoW in it's vanilla days and enjoyed that, you'll like Rift. It combines what was nice about vanilla WoW with a few things from DAoC and Everquest.

Honestly, don't play either. If you've already played WoW you're pretty much downgrading into RIFT, yeah it might be fun for a month, but after that it gets old, FAST. FFXIV is just not very fun unless you have a group of close friends to play with. There's plenty of other non-MMOs to try, but if it comes down to it and you MUST invest in one or the other it's a pretty hard choice. I'd say if RIFT 'improves' and goes on it won't be anything more then mediocre, although it is playable now it gets boring fast. If FFXIV 'improves' (whatever the chance of that is...) I think personally it has greater potential to very enjoyable for the EX-FFXI player or general FF fan.

Uh.. No. You're wrong and here's why. I hate WoW. Fucking despise it couldn't get past level 20 because it drove me insane.

Rift on the other hand, I was easily able to get to level 50 in a month and have fun with it the whole time. No grinding, just questing. Never had to grind once. The reason I was able to get farther was probably the role swapping(think being able to change classes on the fly like in FFXI except you had to stay within your class, rogues, warriors, clerics, or mages).

But after I got to 50 pretty much the only thing to do was expert dungeons and if you're a DPS rogue no one wants you(cue THF).

There are no good MMOs right now. Play something else and wait for Tera or wait for FFXIV to good.
