After a bit of a lull in reading literature where my reading pace dropped off rather dramatically to about 1 book every 2 months or so, I'm back in full force, mostly rereading stuff at the moment. This is largely due to me picking up a Kindle.

I reread Slaughterhouse-5 and Mother Night this weekend and, while the prospect of rereading all of Vonnegut's works really does seem quite tempting, I've got Siddhartha queued up next. I've had Steppenwolf sitting on my shelf for a while and had been meaning to read some Hesse for a while, but I'm going for Siddhartha first. I've also some Pynchon on my shelf that is crying out to be reread, along with a copy of Journey to the End of the Night that I've always been interrupted halfway through. I've also got a .txt version of Naked Lunch that I need to get around to converting.

So any suggestions on more reading material? I've got plenty of stuff that I'm thinking about picking up that I haven't mentioned and plenty of stuff that is already sitting on my shelf. Just keep in mind that I'm not really looking for science fiction or fantasy stuff unless it's exemplary, and I certainly don't want to hear someone mention John Grisham, Dean Koontz, or the like.

Bonus points if it's depressing and existentialist.

And I'm just going to preempt any Twilight recommendations right now since I know that someone here is going to take that easy road.

Lord Dunsany - The Gods of Pegana
Since it's from the turn of the century, you can find it on Project Gutenburg. Also, The King of Elfland's Daughter. Both are pre-Tolkien.

Journey to the West, though I can't suggest any particular translation.

Carl Johan Vallgren - The Horrific Sufferings of the Mind-reading Monster Hercules Barefoot (Only read that in Swedish and I have no idea how the translation is, judging from the terrible title it might be very poor, wtf really, it's not even remotely close to the original. That's like renaming Lord of the Rings "The Horrific Sufferings of the Big-footed Hobbit Frodo Baggins)

I've been reading the Sci-Fi classics lately, currently I'm on Ringworld and it's actually really good. It's pretty short, it would probably only take you one or two days if you read at a decent pace.

I hit up the half price book store and buy them from time to time, they are fun to do if you think about it. Calculus and Algebra on weekends doesn't sound fun, but man oh man it is. Real talk.

I do love algebra, I just thought it would make me sleepy that one particular time. Math is awesome and logical, however, I'm totally lost when it gets to physics and chemistry. Too much assumption. I don't care that I can see the fucking apple fall down, I still don't understand why.
