PC Error: "USB over current status detected"

    I grabbed a new Motherboard

    ASUS M4A87TD/USB3 - AM3 - AMD 870 - DDR3 - USB 3.0 SATA 6 Gb/s- ATX Motherboard

    This RAM

Corsair Memory Vengeance 16 Quad Channel Kit DDR3 1600 MHz 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM

    And this CPU

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Processor, Black Edition

And pulled my old power supply, video card and DVD drive out of my old computer and put it all into a different case. (Antec 900)

The power supply is an Antec True 650W

Video card is uhhh I'll get back to you in a moment

And just a regular old DVD drive.

Everything works as I am now back on the old computer after putting everything back, so I am assuming it's the mobo?

Any thoughts? Tried everything after googling the problem. Gonna RMA day after Thanksgiving probably if can't fix.

This is the first thing that showed up in google search and seems like a valid response and the person solved it by loosening a screw on the motherboard (which cause a short circut)

also sense it's another asus USB problem here's another link that could help you too:

seems like you can either fix it or return it and hope you dont get another bad egg. Or try to run your MOBO outside the case like the 2nd link had said.

I read all those links last night

Loosened screws, unplugged the keyboard, unplugged the front case USB connectors.

I'm really scared of powering up the mobo outside the case but I can try when I get home, I guess.

If it's the case of something metal touching it-- Would it be bad mobo from then on out or will it work just fine if I find what's touching it? (I don't think anything is, but I'll find out when I pull it out tonight.)

    Work til about 10PM tho.

It's safe to power up all the stuff outside the case. Just set it all down on a towel on the edge of a table (so the video card's metal tab rests off the edge) and plug it all in.

Also next question the little bracket on side where you plug in the mouse keyboard etc, is that metal and would that make it short circuit?

No, that won't create a short. It's either one of the motherboard mounting screws or the case's USB plugs. IMO.
