LAN party: hardware needed?

So me and my friends have LAN parties once in a while, only 4-6 of us usually. CS, BF, then hidden, GTA4... It's a lot of fun especially as we get older and drunker.

We were having a problem last time with a switch. We try to do Router > switch > pcs but for some reason last time the switch went berserk setup a firewall and blocks out all Internet access till its removed.

So we started trying multiple routers, but it's retarded.

Is the single router and big enough switch all we need? I'm probably going to buy a new switch since the last one was retarded, and in the meantime fix the one we have. But I'd still like to make sure or get some other opinions, or tips for this.

Outside of network issues everything is great, and we've never had issues until this switch.

Just a normal switch should do the work (outside the router)

If it'S a managed switch maybe you could use some config, but if you buy one of those dlink cheap switch it should work out of the box

A "dumb" (aka unmanaged) switch right on a router works fine. TPlink has quite good (and cheap) switches, amazon has an 8-port for 25$.

The switch is Netgear prosafe 8port vpn firewall. The firewall is what is giving us the problem cause someone may have accidentally locked us out.

Would something like this work. 8 port Belkin switch. It doesn't say unmanaged but there is like nothing in stock at any store around except for that.

Basically the prosafe is fucking us. It won't install properly, we can't do shit with it.
