True Blood Season 5 (June 2012)

I'm nearly done reading (via audiobook) the Sookie Stackhouse books, after watching the first 4 seasons of the TV series, and thought I'd begin a thread for season 5.

    From http://true-blood.net/
    Dates to Know

*Production on True Blood season 5 will begin in November 2011 and run through late June/early July 2012.
*True Blood season 4 will likely be released on DVD and Blu-ray in late May 2012.
*True Blood season 5 will likely premiere on HBO in June 2012.

    Plot Points

*Season 5 will pick up right where season 4 left off, with Sookie holding Tara in the kitchen.
*Alan Ball, Kristin Bauer and Alexander Skarsgard have all stated in various interviews that we’ll see a flashback to when Eric turned Pam into a vampire.
*Although season 5 is based on Dead as a Doornail, Alan Ball said that season 5 will combine elements from multiple books much more than in previous seasons (in other words, we could see events from books 6-?).
*A major character introduced in Dead as a Doornail is Quinn. No word yet on whether he’ll appear on the show, but we do have some casting suggestions.
*We will not see zombies in season 5, but the writing staff are researching “lesser known” supernatural creatures to appear.

    Who’s Returning?

*Characters who are confirmed for season 5 include: Sookie, Bill, Eric, Alcide, Lafayette, Arlene, Terry, Jessica, Hoyt, Sam, Jason, Pam, and Patrick.
*Denis O’Hare confirmed that Russell Edgington will return in the True Blood season 5 premiere.
*Scott Foley will return as Patrick Devins for at least half of the season 5 episodes.
*Alan Ball has signed on to executive produce True Blood season 5.
*Rutina Wesley has confirmed that Tara will be back in season 5.
*Nelsan Ellis says that we’ll see Jesus again in season 5.

SPOILERS: True Blood Season 5 Adds 2 New Characters
    Oct 17 2011

EW has the scoop on two new roles for True Blood season 5, including a sibling for one character and clarification on that character we heard about a while back. Are you ready?

    Updated with additional details.

First, Eric’s getting a sister! Sort of. Nora was a gorgeous young woman when Godric turned her into a vampire, meaning she and Eric share a Maker. As if that weren’t enough, Nora is also a double-agent within the Vampire Authority. She is described as intelligent and cool under pressure. She loves Eric deeply, but has dedicated herself to a higher purpose (taking down the Authority?). Can we assume she’s Eric’s “friends in high places” mentioned last season?

Second, remember the “mysterious vampire” they sent out a casting call for back in August? Then Raelle Tucker teased that we “may have heard of her”? The vampire in question is none other than Salome, the daughter of King Herod who called for John the Baptist’s head on a silver platter in the New Testament. In the True Blood universe, she’s an ancient vampire who’s also a skilled seductress (of course) and possibly crazy (naturally). She’s incredibly powerful, but able to hide that when it suits her. The character has dark hair and dark features and is “exotic looking”.
SPOILERS: True Blood Season 5 Casting News
    Nov 02 2011

The first piece of True Blood season 5 casting news is out, and it’s AWESOME! Following in the steps of Lara Pulver, who starred in the BBC’s Robin Hood series, True Blood is welcoming Lucy Griffiths to Bon Temps! Lucy played Maid Marion in the first two seasons of the British fantasy series, and I loved her!

Lucy will be playing Nora, an ancient vampire who was sired by Godric, making her Eric Northman’s “sister”. Per the casting call, Nora is a double-agent within the Vampire Authority. She is described as intelligent and cool under pressure. She loves Eric deeply, but has dedicated herself to a higher purpose (taking down the Authority?).

SPOILERS: True Blood Casts Marcus’s Mom
    Nov 10 2011

True-Blood.net has just learned that Dale Dickey (My Name is Earl) has been cast as Marcus’s mother in season five. Annie will appear throughout the season and she’s has some serious business to tend to. She’s quite a force within the pack and as we reported here, she is pushing some kind of ritual. This news got people speculating about what this might mean for Alcide and possibly Sam.
    Casting News: Meet Salome
    Nov 15 2011

Interestingly enough, the part of Salome has gone to Italian actress Valentina Cervi. Salome, as we reported earlier, is the creation of the writers and not one of Charlaine Harris’s characters from the books. She is described as an ancient vampire who’s also a skilled seductress and possibly crazy. She’s incredibly powerful, but able to hide that when it suits her. The character has dark hair and dark features and is “exotic looking”.

    http://true-blood.net/wp-content/upl...Salome_001.jpg
    Valentina Cervi is 'Salome'

Remember that writer Raelle Tucker clued us that this character was “someone we may have heard of”. Bet you all didn’t expect this, huh? I didn’t!

I'd rather bump the thread than keep updating OP ^^; I'll put trailers etc in the OP once they make some though.

Two More Join True Blood Season 5 (SPOILERS)
    Nov 18 2011

Deadline has last minute True Blood season 5 casting news for us as the week winds up.
    Warning: Season 5 Spoilers Ahead!

Kelly Overton will appear in 6 episodes as Rikki, a werewolf who’s beautiful but dirty (more sexy showers on the way?) and wants to know what happened to Marcus. Louis Herthum will appear in 5 episodes as J.D., the Marine-type werewolf who refuses to acknowledge the new packmaster. He’s the one we speculated was Alcide’s father; still no confirmation or denial on that front.

SPOILERS: True Blood 5.02 Casting Call
    Nov 28 2011

Hot on the heels of the True Blood episode 5.02 title reveal, we have the casting call for this episode. Now that True Blood season 5 is in production, we ought to be getting a bunch of spoilers and casting updates to get us through the hiatus. Yay!

As you may have guessed from the title, “Authority Always Wins” will focus on The Authority. We’ll meet Kibwe, a slender, middle-aged African gentleman vampire. He’s an Authority council member who believes in rehabilitation for prisoners over stricter punishment. Fellow council member Rosalyn Harris, a Texan with ”hair high enough to interfere with air traffic”, contributes to the discussion with homespun wisdom and a firm hand. In what ought to be a hilarious role, we meet council member Alexander, an impetuous young vampire who was turned at the age of 9, who loves cigarettes and razzing his fellow council members.

Dieter Braun is mature and self-possessed, calm and authoritative, with a piercing gaze. He’s a vampire of average build who is nevertheless extremely intimidating, and he uses innovative methods to torture a prisoner during an interrogation. Presumably his prisoner is Nigel, a grotesque, scarred, burned and deformed vampire being punished for his predilection for eating babies. *shudder*

Jason has to deal with some hurt feelings when he gets punched out by Ellis, a member of Jason’s former road crew, for sleeping with his wife. An unnamed gets in on the action, too, angry that Jason broke up his family by sleeping with his mother. Whether the boy’s mother was Ellis’ wife or someone else altogether remains to be seen.

Christine Van Heusen is a cute brunette newscaster for a CNN-type program who conducts a high-profile, in-depth interview on TV. Could this be Russell Edgington’s big comeback?

We’ll also be meeting the clerk at The Stake House, a home protection store that sells weapons designed to hurt vampires. Clever name.

Flashback time! It’s 1905, San Francisco. We meet Washcloth Helen, a hooker who snorts cocaine and an unnamed man who is pleasant, well-dressed, and seemingly non-threatening but is actually quite dangerous. Which main character’s past are we flashing back to?

    We don't have a thread for the books, so I guess I can just post this interview with Charlaine Harris about books 12 & 13 in here ^^;

    Spoiler: show
Exclusive: Author Charlaine Harris on the Beginning and End of Sookie Stackhouse
Tue., Nov. 15, 2011 9:00 AM PST , by Joseph McCabe

True Blood may have many years left to it, but author Charlaine Harris has announced that the bestselling Sookie Stackhouse novels (a.k.a. the Southern Vampire Mysteries) on which the hit HBO series is based will conclude with the thirteenth volume (volume 12 is due out next year). I recently sat down with Harris for an extensive interview, which I'll be presenting in three parts. The next two parts will focus on Harris's thoughts about True Blood and on her upcoming graphic novel Cemetery Girl. But after the jump, you can read the first part of our conversation, in which Harris discusses her approach to writing, her influences, the creation of Sookie Stackhouse, the character's upcoming final adventures, and what she might do next.

You just finished writing the twelfth Sookie Stackhouse novel…

The penultimate book, because I'm going to finish with the thirteenth.

Is it tough to finish this series, to let it go?

It's tough to walk away from the money. [Laughs.] Yeah, it is going to be tough.

    But you don't have to.

No. I don't have to. But I just felt like I'm finishing the story. I don't have anything left. That's what I've got. I don't want to keep writing when I'm running on empty. I think we all know writers who have continued to write the same characters when they run out of gas apparently. I just don't want to be like that.

You've written plenty of other novels beside the Southern Vampire Mysteries. Do you have a long list of things you've put on the back burner because of Sookie?

Yes, I do. [Laughs.] And honestly it is so exciting to do something different.

How far into the thirteenth Stackhouse novel are you?

Zero! [Laughs.] That's my next project. When I get home I have to go over the copy-edited pages of Sookie 12, which will be out in May. That will freshen up my memory about what I need to do in Sookie 13, to tie everything together. A seemingly impossible task.

I'm sure you've been asked this before, but could you talk about what the twelfth novel will involve?

It's called Deadlocked. It's another extension of her adventures, moving a step forward to resolve many of the issues that are brought up in previous books. She gets kidnapped – you know, the usual mayhem. She gets kidnapped, she has to get out of it. The Fey entry into her life is pretty much wrapped up. She learns a lot more about everything really. She learns a lot in this book, the truth. So it was a challenging book to write, and I tried to keep it on track more as a mystery. But there are just so many loose ends to tie up, it's just incredible. [Laughs.]

Even though Sookie is a mature woman, do you view the entire series, on one level, as a coming-of-age story?

The growth of her character is definitely a major part of the novels, but I wouldn't call it coming-of-age. She's a twenty-six year-old woman. But she certainly becomes worldlier, more aware of the other worlds around her. She's always known what human nature was like, because she's telepathic. Which is kind of a bitter pill to swallow. But she learns how to live with a lot of things, and what she can't live with.

Which is part of what makes the books universal, since we all experience that everyday.

    Yes, I suppose so. [Laughs.]

The Stackhouse books are, as billed, mysteries. But you blend other genres into them. Without sounding too clinical, is there an unofficial recipe for how much of each genre you add to the mix?

Not really, because it varies from book to book.

So it's what the story calls for?

Some books are quite romantic. Some books are all about the mystery. Some books are just adventure, because Sookie's moving forward with her life and it's really complicated. Things happen in the werewolf world, the vampire world, the Fey world that impact her directly. So it's just an adventure getting through her day. [Laughs.]

Do you never really know what the genre will be until you begin the book?

That's true. I just see where the story takes me and go with that.

Do you not use an outline when you write?

Well, that might be stretching it a bit. But as long as I've got my basic characters, I just set them in motion and we just see what happens.

What's your work routine like? Do you have a time of day at which you prefer to write?

I do. I'm very much a creature of routine. I'm really one of the most boring people you'll ever meet. I go to work at 8 in the morning and I work until after my husband leaves for work. I go over to my office and work. I work until 11:30 or 12; I take off for lunch and watch something I've DVR'd the night before. Then I go back to work at 1ish and work until 3, 3:30 or 4; something like that. But a lot of that's isn't real, original creative work, to my dismay, because the bigger your name gets the more the business of being that entity takes over the creative work that put you in that position.

Do you foresee a time when you'll hire a staff to take care of a lot of that business work? Or do you prefer to be more hands on?

There are decisions that I have to make. My agent would never make a decision without checking with me first. You really have to take care of much of that yourself. My assistant does all of the emails, except for my personal ones. My agent handles all the business. But I still have to make up my mind. I still have to decide what my schedule's going to be. I still have to make decisions about the artwork for this or the cover copy for that. It just seems to take up an awful lot of time.

I'm curious about your own taste in the supernatural. What did you gravitate towards as a fan?

Growing up, I read a very wide mixture of books. Anything I could lay my hands on, at the library. My small town was very, very poor. It was very hard to get a selection of books, hardly any of them were science fiction, unfortunately. But I did grow up reading H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe – which was pretty much science fiction in a lot of ways – Ray Bradbury – he's so pure, isn't he? – Poul Anderson… People like that. I did read them. Though my primary reading choice was mystery eventually, I always read science fiction also.

Did you have any favorite horror stories?

I never realized that horror was a separate genre. So I just kind of lumped it in there with science fiction. But I don't remember reading any horror, unless you consider Dracula horror. I read that two or three times.

There's a collection of True Blood-related essays – BenBella's A Taste of True Blood – to which I contributed a piece on the relationship between True Blood and Dracula.

    Oh really?

Dracula reflects the fears of Victorian England's men that an Eastern European "savage" from another era will take their women away from them. In the character of Bill, True Blood, in some ways, offers the antithesis -- presenting the vampire as a desirable, benevolent, and more civilized figure from the past. Were you conscious of that at all when you were creating Bill?

Not as… I was more interested in Anne Rice's vampires. I like her vampires, and in fact that is why I chose northern Louisiana. Because I thought Anne had her way with southern Louisiana, so I'll just take the part nobody likes. I'll take northern Louisiana. [Laughs.]

You're making sure that part of the state gets its due? [Laughs.]

Yeah. It's not nearly as picturesque as southern Louisiana, or as ethnic or colorful. So I'll just take northern Louisiana and see what I can do with it. [Laughs.]

So, as far as vampire literature goes, Rice was a big inspiration for you?

I think Interview with a Vampire is the iconic book in modern vampire literature. I can't give her enough kudos for that. It's just a fantastic book. And there was one scene in a subsequent book where Lestat breaks into the Talamasca and has a face-to-face talk with a human member of the Talamasca, David. To me that encounter of the vampire and the human was fascinating. I must have read that scene – I don't know – twenty times. I thought, "There's something here that gets me." So when I was thinking about writing something completely different from conventional mysteries, I thought, "I don't want to write about a vampire. I want to write about a human who dates a vampire." So the whole thing evolved from that.

Of course you have other classic components of horror and fantasy literature in your books. Where did you get your werewolves and fairies?

Well, my fairies are not traditional fairies. I felt that other people were doing… Well, I don't know. I just wanted to do them my own way, and I felt free, since they are fictional, to disregard tradition in that respect. Werewolves too; though my werewolves are very traditional in a lot of ways, because I just like them like they are.

Which genre writers do you read today?

My gosh, so many. I'm a voracious reader. I review books on my website all the time. Not ones I didn't like, because that's just vicious. Life is short. So I just talk about the ones I like. I've a huge fan of Lee Child, Barry Eisler, I really enjoy Jim Butcher and Patricia Briggs. They're my favorites. Even more on the more romance-y side, Jeaniene Frost is super. I read Jon Krakauer, the nonfiction writer. He's such a great writer. Of course I read Neil Gaiman, and Connie Willis. But honestly you could ask me tomorrow night and I'd give you a completely different list. Because there are so many people I enjoy so much... Mike Carey, he's so good. He just gave us a story for Toni [L.P. Kelner] and my next anthology, because I edit anthologies also; and his story is so good. We didn't have to change a word. It was the editor's dream.

These days paranormal romance is huge in bookstores. Though the Stackhouse novels don't necessarily fall into that category, the audience does cross over.

Yeah, they're not romance. Though sometimes they get classified that way.

Do you feel the show's success has contributed to that classification?

Possibly, because the show has so much more sex in it than there is in the books. Yeah, I think so. But as long as people are buying the books I really can't complain. They find out sooner or later that I don't even have a sex scene in every book. I try to make it good when I do it, but if it's not essential to the story, I'm not going to put one in there.

Did film and television have a big influence on you when you were growing up? Or did you spend the vast majority of your time reading?

I would say it was eighty to eight-five percent books. I have watched some genre movies. I'm not very big on horror movies.

You mentioned you DVR shows. What do you watch now?

We tape several programs that we don't get to watch, and truthfully I am a Project Runway junkie. [Laughs.] That's my guilty pleasure. I just love it. Because I could never in a million years do that. I can't even sew on a button. And to watch people say, "Yes, you have to have a ball-gown by eight o'clock tonight," Then someone says, "Oh, I just don't have a single idea…" I just think that's so amazing that there's something in their head that enables them to do that. I just love to watch that. It's amazing. There are several other shows I really enjoy watching. I like House. Even though, really, I think somebody should shoot him and rid the world of him. Then I like Dexter, which is pretty horrific; and very different from the books. I think Jeff Lindsay and I are the luckiest people in the world. He's got a quality TV show and he's got the books, and they're very different. It's very similar to my situation.

Dexter, however, is very focused on the title character, whereas True Blood focuses on the entire world that you've created. Is world-building something that comes natural to you?

Well, yes. I hate to use this word, but it's kind of organic. I think, "Well, if this is this way, then the next step will be that way; and then if this is true then that must be true…" It just kind of builds and builds and builds. I know people, other writers, who sit down and establish the whole entire world with every rule before they sit down to write. But honestly I couldn't do that. I'm too impatient. I just have to do it as I go. Which leads to some problems later on [laughs], but it's fun to do.

Well that's what editing is for. [Laughs.] It sounds like world-building is your own Project Runway. I'm sure most people would find what you do pretty amazing, and insist they at least need extensive outlines to create a world.

Oh some people do. I know one writer who spent so long working on the world that she didn't write the book. I don't live inside my head that much. I've got to communicate with other people.

That shows right from the first Stackhouse novel. There's a confidence there.

    Thank you.

You trust the journey the storyteller's going to take you on.

Oh good. Well, I've been in the business for a long time. And there are certain things I'm not very confident about. And I have fits of self doubt, but generally I know what I'm doing now. I've been writing books for at least thirty years, and I feel like I do know a thing or two about what works.

Has the success of the Stackhouse books shaped your backburner list? Do you now find yourself considering more strongly other supernatural projects?

Well, yes I do. Because I know where the money is, and I know whether for good or ill if I write something supernatural, I'm gonna make big bucks; and if I write something else I might not. And I'm not above considering business when I pick my projects, because that's realistic. Though I know writers who are unrealistic, and I admire them too. They'll say, "No, I'm not gonna write that book. I'm gonna write this book." Everyone is asking Robin McKinley to write a sequel to Sunshine. She won't do it. [Laughs.]

Are there other media in which you'd like to write? Can you see yourself scripting film or TV?

You know, I'm just not interested in scriptwriting. I wish I were. That would be nice.

Do you prefer having total control over the universe you're creating?

No, I'm not a total control person. That's why I signed the books over to Alan Ball. But I just love books. The graphic novel I'm doing with Chris Golden, Cemetery Girl, is a big stretch for me. It really shook me up to learn. I started doing a graphic novel and got a new phone at the same time. [Laughs.] I said, "I can't write this. This is too much. I don't understand it." But I'm learning, and I hope that eventually I'll get to be pretty good at it.

It's impressive that you took the time to learn. A lot of established writers would feel they don't need to, and if they were working with Chris Golden – as you are on Cemetery Girl – they'd just have him take care of things. It's similar to your work day – with Stephen King, for example… I don't get the impression he's directly involved with as many business decisions as you are.

Well, I like to. My agent emails me and calls me, sometimes several times a day. He's a very hands-on agent, Joshua, and he's the only agent I've ever had. We've kind of grown together. He has an agency now with two associates, and I'm doing okay.

Since we're speaking the day before Halloween, I have to ask – how does Charlaine Harris celebrate the holiday?

I don't. I love the idea of Halloween, but I live on a road out in the country and no one ever comes to trick-‘r-treat. I'm not much of a party person. Sometimes I think, "If I went and hung out in the bar at night I could probably talk to other writers and learn stuff…" Then I'm like, "Nah." [Laughs.] I'm not much of a drinker. I'm not much of a party person. I'm more of a…I'm just me.

Yet you've obviously done a lot of living in order to write these books.

Yeah, I'm very fortunate now that my life in many ways is very easy. But it's not always been this way.

Do you have a favorite character in the Stackhouse novels besides Sookie? And is that character the same as the character you identify with most closely on the show?

Hmmm… Well, I love writing Pam, because she is really ruthless, and I love writing people who are so what they are. Then there's a short story character I use, but that has only made our attention in the books, Dahlia Lynley-Chivers. I've written maybe six short stories about Dahlia. She is incredibly vicious, and I find it very liberating to write a character who just doesn't give a shit. [Laughs.] "Pregnant women aren't sacred to me. Kids aren't sacred to me. I really hate ‘em." She's just a very little, very old vampire who's proud of her personal appearance and could care less about anything else.

So through her you can exorcise things you can't in everyday life?

Oh yeah. I'm certainly a much nicer person because I'm a writer.

You get all your darkness out on paper. [Laughs.]

Yeah, I get to shake my sillies out every day. [Laughs.]

There was TV development of your other book series…

I had the Harper Connelly books with CBS but that didn't pan out.

Is that project finished, or could it be reborn elsewhere?

It's under discussion with somebody else now. So I should know pretty soon about that. That would be fun and interesting also. It would be a very different experience.

I assume there's also Hollywood interest in your other books. Is there anything that's likely to be developed soon?

Not that I can talk about.

Are you inundated with calls these days?

You know, fortunately I am. That's where everybody wants to be.

You seem to have handled success quite elegantly.

It's because I'm old. If I was still really young I'd probably be all over the map.

You'd be snorting coke in Beverly Hills.

That's right. [Laughs.] I'd be in the bathroom. But since I'm older and I've had my kids and I've had a whole complete life, that really helps keep me balanced.

In real life, what's your greatest fear?

[Laughs.] That someday people will find out I can't really write. They'll discover that. Really, my greatest fears have already happened to me. That has left me in many ways fearless.

That's excellent. Most of us have to die to get to that place.

[Laughs.] Yeah. I don't know. There's something for having lived through it and come out the other side and said, "Hey, I did that. So I can do just about anything!"

    Thank you so much, Charlaine.

    Oh, you're welcome!

Those of you who've read the books, do you think the "Alexander" mentioned in the episode 2 teaser might be "Alexei?" I know they re-wrote Eric's backstory for the show, but it'd be interesting if they were to bring him in somehow.

Been a while since I went scouring for teasers, here's a few new ones:

Possible spoilers for books 5+ and series 5 of the TV series

SPOILER: Alan Ball Teases Season 5
    Dec 20 2011

Inside True Blood blog posted a teeny-tiny teaser for us. It’s not much (almost nothing) but have no fear Truebies, this is only the beginning.

Gianna Sobol posts: “From the mouth of Alan Ball himself: ’We’re really going to find out what the vampire Authority is all about.’”

Like I said, nothing much but it is Christmas and it’s better than coal in your stocking.
SPOILERS: Denis O’Hare Teases True Blood Season 5
    Jan 01 2012

In the latest issue of SciFiNow magazine, featuring True Blood on the cover, Denis O’Hare gives us a little tease for his return to True Blood season 5.

“I’m not going to come back to True Blood until mid-March. I had a meeting with Alan Ball last week, and they have devised an amazing trick to allow me to be present, but not fully acting.”

Denis will be starring in an off-Broadway play that he wrote, The Iliad, running January-March, so it sounds like Alan is working with his schedule to insure the return of Russell Edgington (is he still King?). Now how could he “be present, but not fully acting”? Maybe some voiceovers? And if Denis doesn’t report to the set until mid-March, then does that mean Russell doesn’t show up until halfway through the season? So many questions!
SPOILERS: Casting Call for True Blood Episode 5.03
    Jan 05 2012

Happy New Year! We’re kicking off 2012 with the casting call for True Blood season 5, episode 3, titled “Whatever I Am, You Made Me”.

Looks like we start dealing with the repercussions of Debbie Pelt’s death in this episode as they’re casting her mother, Barbara, and father, Gordon. Both in their 50s, the couple are described as kindly but anxious as they search for their missing daughter. They confront Alcide about her disappearance, and Gordon gets upset with what Alcide has to say about her.

Another member of the Authority makes an appearance in the form of Molly, a cute, bubbly girl in her 20s (or at least she looks that way) who dresses in retro pinup style. Described as “cute as a button if buttons had fangs,” she outfits two prisoners with complicated deadly devices. Two prisoners? Bill and Eric?

Get ready to meet more residents of Bon Temps! Clothing store owner Tracy is heavily made-up, hair-sprayed and spray-tanned, she owns a small town clothing store and talks trash about Jason to Jessica. Sounds like a woman scorned if you ask me. Miss Jill Steeler, an ex-teacher, is recently divorced and back in town. She’s described as “she used to be beautiful, now she looks like an attractive, pleasantly plump housewife.” Then there’s Lindsey, a young woman in her 20s who’s fixing a flat tire on a narrow country road when a vampire comes upon her.

We’re flashing back to 1905 again with Dorothy, a young prostitute who has been glamored and is being drained by two vampires when another vampire (newly turned Pam?) saves her.

In a slightly confusing turn, True Blood is casting another (?) Claude. This one is in his early 20s, very attractive (with and without a shirt), omni-sexual, mysterious, speaks with a British accent, and catches Jessica’s attention and curiosity. This is a recurring role. Is he replacing Neil Hopkins in the role of Claude, Claudine’s brother? Or is this a totally new character?

    Warning: Minor Spoilers Ahead

New True Blood cast member Brandon James (he plays one of Holly’s sons), Tweeted a photo of himself on the set with Chris Bauer. Looks like Andy and Holly will be dealing with a little juvenile delinquency this season, you think? And do we have a new deputy in the background there?

SPOILERS: Ryan Kwanten Teases Jason/Jessica in True Blood Season 5
    Jan 09 2012

Ryan Kwanten gave TV Guide a little tease about True Blood season 5 in the new issue of the magazine, featuring our first look at Ryan guest starring on New Girl with Zooey Deschanel.

“I’m already back shooting,” he says. “Jason is definitely treading into uncharted territories with Jessica. For once, his one-track mind is focused on love.” Wouldn’t it be a shame if his ex-flame — Reverend Newlin’s wife, Sarah — were to reappear in Bon Temps and mess everything up?

First, awwwwww, Jason’s in love! Second, is that last sentence wishful thinking on TV Guide’s part, or can we look forward to the return of both Newlins in the new season? Only about 5 months to go, Truebies!
SPOILERS: Which New Character Just Got Upgraded to Regular?
    Jan 10 2012

The casting call for True Blood episode 5.3, “Whatever I Am, You Made Me”, was just updated to note that new character Claude, who may or may not be Claudine’s brother, is a possible series regular for season 6. The “possible” caveat is likely because HBO hasn’t confirmed a sixth season yet, so it would appear that Claude is quite am important character indeed. Curiouser and curiouser!

Here’s our original write up about Claude:

In a slightly confusing turn, True Blood is casting another (?) Claude. This one is in his early 20s, very attractive (with and without a shirt), omni-sexual, mysterious, speaks with a British accent, and catches Jessica’s attention and curiosity. This is a recurring role. Is he replacing Neil Hopkins in the role of Claude, Claudine’s brother? Or is this a totally new character?

Don’t forget to vote for who you think should play Claude!

True Blood … the Christmas Special

    By Gianna Sobol

Since a season of True Blood accounts for maybe a week of "show time," and we air in the middle of summer, we haven't had the chance to experience the joy of putting together a Christmas episode. But I asked writer Mark Hudis what things might look like in Bon Temps during the most wonderful time of the year, and here's what he had to say...

SPOILERS: Big Change for Luna and No More Mr. Nice-Were Alcide
    Jan 16 2012

TVLine had some Golden Globe gossip from True Blood cast members Janina Gavankar, Ryan Kwanten and Joe Manganiello. It looks like Luna is going to have some excitement in her life while Alcide gets meaner. And could Jason be turning into Jessica’s beyotch? Read on Truebies!

1 – Janina Gavankar revealed that “a major thing happens to Luna early in the season, and it’s going to change her life forever.”
2 – The cast learned that Chris Meloni was Bon Temps-bound last month at a table read, news that elicited “gasps” throughout the room, recalled Gavankar. “We’re so excited to have him.”
3 – Alcide’s days of playing Mr. Nice Guy are over. “As you saw at the end of Season 4, he’s not taking anyone’s s— anymore,” said the man-beast’s portrayer, Joe Manganiello. “Now you’re going to see an Alcide who’s going to slam you up against the wall and do his thing. Who doesn’t like being slammed up against the wall, right?” Asked to clarify his use of the word “slam” — i.e. is it a euphemism for, ahem, another s-word — Manganiello cracked a devilish smile and replied, “It could be a fun slam. And it could be an angry slam. You never know?” He then reminded us that, “Alcide is single.”
4 – The latest True Blood script Manganiello read contains “some really fun [Alcide-Sookie] stuff,” he revealed. “Stuff that makes you really nervous… I’m watching my words really carefully.”
5 – Ryan Kwanten hinted that Jason may have bitten off more than he could chew with regard to his romance with Jessica. “As you know, anyone who gets involved with Jason better have her wits about her,” he said. “But I think in this case, it’s Jason who better watch out. The tables have finally turned.”
6 – Where do you go after spending half of Season 4 being raped by a werepanther? “Even that can be topped,” teased Kwanten. “Jason was very lucky to survive; he was down for the count. He has a desire to life. I admire that in a man.”
SPOILERS: Is There Still Hope For Eric & Sookie?
    Jan 17 2012

TV Guide has some True Blood season 5 scoop for us on one of the most asked about relationships on the show:

Is there still hope for Sookie and Eric on True Blood? — Alexis
NATALIE: Considering that Sookie swore off both Bill and Eric in the season finale, it’ll be a while before we see any movement on that front. “The feelings are still there for both Eric and Bill,”Alexander Skarsgard tells us. “The attraction is still there, but they’re preoccupied, and so is she.” Instead, look for Bill and Eric to team up while the vampire world begins to both expand and collapse in the coming season. “The guys have usually tried to kill each other and now suddenly have to learn to become friends and protect each other and work together.”

SPOILERS: Casting Call for True Blood Episode 5.04
    Jan 19 2012

One reason to be glad the holidays are over? True Blood season 5 is back in production, which means…spoilers! Today we have the casting call for episode 5.04, titled “We’ll Meet Again”. Written by fan-favorite Alexander Woo and directed by Romeo Tirone.

It’s flashback time! In this episode, we’re going back to Iraq in 2003, when Terry and Patrick were serving together. We’ll meet Todd Jeffries and Jemarcus Kessler, part of Terry and Patrick’s Marine squad. They’re traveling to a small town to party and blow off steam when the night goes horribly, horribly wrong. We’ll meet a couple of residents of the town, an 18-year-old Iraqi boy and an older Iraqi man, who speak up when the Marines attack their town “as a lark.” True Blood is also casting an Iraqi woman, the mother of a 12-year-old boy who is killed in the attack. She’ll also appear in episode 5.05. Terry’s PTSD is suddenly becoming much more understandable.

The next set of characters revolve around a Judge Clements, who we haven’t heard of before and who we don’t have a casting call for to my knowledge. This mysterious Judge takes Jason and Andy to an exclusive, secret club where they meet with Angela, Lilianne, Delilah, and Leda. Described as “impossibly gorgeous, flirtatious, charming women in cocktail dresses”, the women are familiar with the Judge, but Leda freaks Jason out by knowing a bit too much about him. Telepathic? The Judge goes off with an unnamed Dancer who also recognizes him.

Meanwhile, Pam uses a young female fangbanger, Melanie, to entice a young vampire to feed on her. So…is Pam now a Maker?
SPOILERS: Ryan, Carrie & Joe Tease True Blood Season 5
    Jan 20 2012

More True Blood season 5 spoilers from the Golden Globes! MTV caught up with Ryan Kwanten, Carrie Preston, and Joe Manganiello to get some scoop on the upcoming season. I like getting to hear from several different actors since they all have their own storylines. It gives us more of a “big picture” look at the season.

Ryan says, ”Jason is hanging onto every shred of humanity as it is, and he was lucky to survive last season. He was on the brink of death several times. This season he’s finally becoming a man, I think. He’s got responsibility in his life. He’s in a position of authority too because Andy is not doing too well with being a sheriff.”

Carrie teases that Terry’s old Army buddy, Patrick, isn’t just there to reminisce over good times. ”He’s definitely there to muddy the waters a little bit. It wouldn’t be True Blood if you didn’t have conflict, so I think it makes for a very interesting dynamic with Terry and Arlene this season.”

And Joe makes us a little weak in the knees as he previews Alcide in season 5: ”We’ve seen that he’s a sweet guy; we’ve seen that he’s the kind of guy that would be great in a relationship. I think that you’re going to be introduced to a side of him that’s going to slam you up against the wall and go for it.”

    Oh boy!

Checking in on spoilers again, looks like they're nearly halfway through filming.

    Spoiler: show
SPOILERS: Casting Calls for Episodes 5.05 and 5.06
    Jan 30 2012

Thanks to SpoilerTV we’ve got more casting calls and episode titles for season 5 of True Blood. The first set is from episode 5.05, titled Boot N’ Rally Ally.

First up, they’ll be looking to cast Jimmy, who is described as very skinny, babbling in terror and found in a padded cell. (A witness at an uprising perhaps?) This is a recurring role.

Then we have Kate who is in her late 20s – early 30s, also skinny and is unconscious in the same cell with Jimmy. She is also listed as a recurring character.

Kathy is a pretty brunette fangbanger in her 20s, who is very friendly and has about 4 lines in 2 scenes.

Little Emma gets a babysitter as Luna dates Sam. Beverly is a plump, good-natured friend of the family who steps into this role.

Finally, a burly vampire walk into the bar and asks for Tru Blood. No that’s not the start of a joke, but it sure sounded like one, didn’t it?

This episode is written by Angela Robinson and directed by Michael Lehmann.

Episode 5.06 is still untitled but will introduce Vivian, described as Caucasian, in her early 20s to late 20s. She is radiantly beautiful and British. This too is a recurring role. It’s wriiten by Alan Ball and directed by Dan Attias.

SPOILERS: More Roles Being Cast for True Blood 5.06
    Feb 14 2012

An updated casting call for True Blood episode 5.06, currently untitled, was released this morning giving us some additional clues about the episode.

We already know about Vivian, the recurring beautiful British woman who we think might be fae. The show is also casting a pair of nurses, one male and one female, who have their hands full with some patients who are upset and agitated. Could those patients be Jimmy and Kate, the skinny kids being held in padded cells? Or are they victims of Joe Bob, a white trash, anti-vampire terrorist who shoots one vampire with his hunting rifle and takes another one hostage.

Not that the vampire PR image is squeaky clean: we’ll also meet an unsavory male vampire in this episode as he chows down on a fangbanger behind Fangtasia, to the point of almost killing him/her.
    CASTING NEWS: Peter Mensah Joins True Blood Season 5 {spoilers}
    Feb 14 2012
    http://true-blood.net/wp-content/upl...eterMensah.jpg
Spartacus star Peter Mensah is joining the cast of True Blood season 5, Deadline reports. He’ll play Kibwe, who we meet in episode 5.02, “Authority Always Wins”.

Peter Mensah joins the cast of True Blood season 5Kibwe is a vampire who originally hails from Africa and now serves as Chancellor for the Authority. He believes in rehabilitation for prisoners over stricter punishment, although we don’t know which prisoners that description is referring to just yet.

Deadline also includes this piece of information in their report: “Kibwe works toward mainstreaming under Roman’s tenure.” So Roman is the current head of the Authority. Do we finally have a clue about who Christopher Meloni is playing?
    SPOILERS: Eric and Bill…And Sookie
    Feb 15 2012

E!Online caught up with Alexander Skarsgard at the Battleship press conference recently, and he spilled a drop of blood information for Truebies to sip.

Eileen in Brooklyn asks: Anything you can tease about True Blood, like who is Sookie going to choose, Bill or Eric?

How about…neither? “We call it season of the bromance,” sexy star Alexander Skarsgård told us at a presser for his new movie Battleship. “We just started [filming] and we’re on episode four of season five. I have a lot with Steve [Stephen Moyer] this year,” he said, quipping, “Eric is very intrigued by Bill now.” Honestly, we’re Team Eric no matter whom he hooks up with (especially if he’s nekkid)! TV’s Top Couple round two, y’all?
