Violence Against the LGBT Community

So, this is what happens when the LGBT community remains passive. Just the other day the American Family Association was decreeing that the LGBT community was at fault for the Aurora, CO shooting. The Westboro Baptist Church calls for violence against LGBT people every time they open their mouth, and while they are likely in no way affiliated with the incident I've shared, the fact remains that this is the kind of violence they want us to endure.

A woman was assaulted in her home yesterday. She had the words, "dyke", "fag", and "cunt" carved into her skin. She was bound by the wrists, and I am uncertain if the feet were also bound, but the assailants then set fire to her home. The sad part is that this not something new & horrific the LGBT community has endured. This has repeatedly occurred over the years, and as a proud member of the LGBT community, I want to say enough is enough. Did this strike close to your home? Could you imagine an atrocious attack close to your home, in your community? It's downright enraging is what this is. Two lesbian teenagers were assaulted in a Texas suburb last month. One has passed away and the other survived whilst suffering a gunshot to the head. This is no holds barred violence against people who want nothing more than to live their lives fully and to have basic human rights. I'm so tired of reading and hearing about violence called against my community and the violence actually done to it's members.

What does the Blue Gartr community think about this? Are you as disgusted as I am?

I see where you're going with this, OP, but I agree with Rhinox (I think for the first time in years) but for different reasons. The only time I take something extra from a tragedy like this is when we, as a society, make it "safer" for certain types of people to get away with these kinds of things due to the way we stereotype, AKA. the whole "but he's a good,white Christian boy! From a wealthy family even! How could this happen!" line we're hearing all too often.

Find whoever did this, punish them, and the issue will raise enough awareness by itself to hopefully make repeating the act harder to do next time.

It's good of you to be disgusted by all acts of violence, for that I applaud you for being a decent human being. However, why the FUCK are you even making it a point to suggest that violence against the LGBT community is more/less worthy of your disgust? You're pointing something out and I personally think it suggests that you're tired of hearing LGBT people get angry about the hate crimes committed against them. And yes, the primary incident I am hoping this thread will cover was a fucking hate crime, Rhinox.
