Best Buy to close a "significant" number of stores after Christmas 2012?

Apparently Best Buy is about to post huge losses and will subsequently close the doors of many of its stores at the end of this holiday season.

Same. Though there was some meeting a couple of weeks (maybe months, don't remember) ago about doing massive restructuring and remodeling inside stores. Maybe the remodeling is to hang a massive out of business sign outside? Would suck for the gaming alone... liked preordering games there now thanks to the $20 reward certificate you get. I have already said this is the only related story I could find,I just found out about this today.

I haven't heard anything as well, I already said it 2 years ago. Best Buy needs to solely focus on Geek Squad and Mobile. Making pennies on the dimes, most of the time losses on electronics isn't good business. This is why the idea of service plans and addons are being HOUNDED to customers.

This has been looming for a while now. They've seen shrinking profits 3 straight quarters and closed stores at the start of the year. Q2 was especially rough. If you work at Best Buy you have my sympathies, hope you don't lose your jobs.

I was talking to a guy who worked in their Geek Squad in late August, and he said they were looking to hire 5 more people for Geek Squad positions <.<

Best Buy is losing out on money because people will go there to demo the big ticket items in person, then go home and order them from Amazon.com or Walmart.com for usually 15-20% cheaper.

I worked Circuit City from black friday to it's death. The managers knew what was up long in advance, but the rest of us didn't get told until CC made it public in January.

Start squirreling as much of your paycheck as you can into your savings, take any extra hours you can without killing yourself.
