Looking for a new phone (Verizon, android)

I'm still using a Droid X2, and it's really showing it's age. I've been looking for a samsung, but I haven't found any good deals on them, and I was hoping the good people of BG might have run across a good deal. Thanks in advance.

Can get a galaxy s3 for 80 bucks on amazon mobile last i checked. Doesnt get much better for priceerformance. Alternatively, the new galaxy phone should be announced soon so you can wait for that if toure ok paying 200-300 dollars for the latest gadget.

I've heard some bad things bout HTC One. I'd go for S4, but I also love my S3 so I'm a bit biased.

I guess when the S4 comes out, the price of the S3 is going to drop, so I might just wait for that.

I just didnt like the style on the htc one x+, felt and looked weird to me. Its not much different then a s3 though, slightly smaller screen at same resolution iirc, 1gb less ram but a slighty stronger processor.

Moto razr m is like 50 bucks with a 2 year and is pretty good from what I hear. Nexus 4 won't work on Verizon since it is gsm only. No cdma radio and Google didn't want to deal with their shit ( i.e. update schedule) anymore.

I don't think the HTC one is coming to Verizon since Verizon has their own type of "flagship" HTC devices that will get the Droid branding. So your only options as far as android phones are sadly the Razr/Maxx, Razr M, Razr HD/HD MAXX, Droid DNA , Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3 or the S4 when ever it comes out.

Motorola is supposed to announce some moto x phone but I think that ain't till another couple months.

@ Boyiee I'm curious what you've heard about the HTC One in the few days since its been announced. Unless you're referring to the One X and not the One then idc.

    My opinion beyond.

I've owned 3 of the newest gen android phones Nexus 4, Galaxy S III, and the HTC One X. I don't even know why the One X even came up as its only for AT&T so I won't say much about it or the Nexus 4. I will however give you mine and my girlfriends experience with the GS3. Before I go on I absolutely hate full body cases for phones and will not use them so I require good build quality and a phone that is able to take a drop or two.

During the month I owned a GS3 I babied that piece of shit. Kept it in a pocket by itself, on my desk to charge and didn't drop it a single time. Over the course of that month I had two chips in the paint on the bezel that when researched I discovered its a common problem amongst the GS3. For $550 I expect a phone to last and the paint to last longer as well. Amongst that we really didn't like the touchwiz UI but thats all personal preference. Overall the phone felt very cheap in comparison to the One X or the Nexus 4 as well but take that with a grain of salt.

If you could wait I would hold out for the HTC One which its been said they will no be giving carrier exclusivity to that phone so its likely there will be a verizon variant. Or you could wait and see how the GS4 turns out and hopefully it won't be as big of a pile build wise as the 3. Otherwise you're stuck with the GS3, Maxx HD or DNA the latter being the most advanced option.

I know you said android but after going through those 3 android phones I decided to give apple a try and bought a used iphone 5 and wish I would have bypassed all the android phones to get an iphone. Let it be known I've owned 6 android phones because I said I'd never buy an iphone, now I wish I would have went apple sooner.

Verizon is foregoing the HTC ONE in favor of the DROID DNA, because they're faggots, so if you want top of the line. It's dna or galaxy s4 , don't know what else they have

Though I'm on a different service, I'll chime in for my GS3. Great phone and I know GS4 is going to blow stuff out the water, but it's not all roses.

As mentioned in other posts, Samsung products aren't exactly durable. Their phones are all generally made of shiny plastic and tend to be super light and not be solid feeling. First thing I bought was an Otterbox, my wife had a gs2 and dropped it waist height and the phones screen shattered. Would have been 200+ to repair at the time, so I didn't take any chances with mine. If I had the choice at the time I would have easily choose the One X, but it's not available on T-Mobile.

Back to the question, the One sounds like a very solid phone, though it's release isn't going to be any time soon. The DNA is a solid phone from what I have read. Same goes with the RAZR series, especially the MAXX due to its battery life. And of course gs3 is the staple. Maybe worth to tough it out till the gs4 release so you can compare for your own tastes. Sorry I'm not super familiar with Verizon, but figured to give my 2 cents.

just got a samsung note 2, i know everyone says the thing is gigantic but thats exactly why i bought it, quad core, 5.5" screen, the thing is a beast and after installing every emulator available for android its an amazing gaming machine.

as noted about samsung phones, it is indeed mostly plastic, but this particular phone feels very solid despite that.

the battery life on it is one of the largest, 3100mAh.

screen is gorilla glass but since the display is so large the screens durability is definitely one of the weak points, so the first thing i bought for it was a folio case that has pretty much replaced my wallet and when its button ensures that no part of the phone will ever hit the ground.

if the size is not too big for you its one of the best android phones on the market

Larger devices grow on you after awhile. I thought id be indifferent to my nexus 7 size, but ive grown to love the thing. Moving from the screen size of a droid 3 to a s3 has been amazing too.

I've had my GS3 since August of last year, and I've been pro Samsung for quite some time, however this phone and I have a few sparring matches almost daily.

Build quality wasn't too much of an issue for me as I tend to use cases out of fear since I'm a klutz. My main issues are the insane amount of dropped calls I have. Everyone in my household has either a GS3 or a Note 2 and in my bedroom they have at least 3 bars~ of cellular service + $G (if wifi is off). I, however, drop down to 1 bar, randomly roam thus dropped calls, and for about 4 months Verizon and Samsung couldn't fix a no SIM error issue the Verizon models had. I experienced this problem daily. I'd go to make a call or send a text and the phone would drop out and give me a no SIM error. There was never a clear answer as to what caused the issue, but it seems to be fixed as far as I know. The phones my family bought were in the December time frame so they never experienced the issue. I assume it had to do with a problem during manufacturing, but that's IMO. I love the phone aside from that.

It has a great battery. I did a little UI tweaking since I prefer the actual Jellybean UI to TouchWiz so if you don't like it, you can adjust it easily. 32 GB of internal + 64 micro storage also can't be beat for someone who has way too much music and videos to store. Its the main reason I won't switch to the DNA. Currently off contract so I've been browsing myself and am on a family plan (grandfathered) so someone already stole my upgrade, thus costing me my unlimited data that I never use anyway. Figure paybacks a good deal. :D

I was on Sprint w/ GS3 and a combination of breaking my screen and moving soon to an area with pisspoor Sprint coverage led to me switch over to VZW and I ended up grabbing a RAZR MAXX HD. Built like a tank and oh dear lord @ the battery life.

Well if you are still interested. It looks like the HTC one is going to be on Verizon after all.

The S4 is going to be unveiled tomorrow night. I'm in the same boat, so hoping to see S3 prices drop significantly or if the S4 comes out under $600 I'll just buy one in lieu of an S3 regardless of what it falls too.

I have an HTC desire from a couple years ago, but never really liked it. No real reason in particular, but enough that I don't want to go back to HTC.

The desire was not a high end phone iirc, so that shouldn't let that deter you from checking out their newer mid to high end phones. A lot of people get shit tier Android phones then get a hi end phone or iPhone and swear off Androids altogether
