Cannot connect 360 controller to pc

As title states both of my controllers won't connect to my pc. I used the support thread below to install.

Guide button lights up after install. When trying to do: run>joy.cpl to configure it, the controller does not show up. I go into device manager and no errors show. All drivers appear to be updated.

Can anyone help me out with this?

When I couldn't get mine to connect it was because windows was using the wrong driver (default one instead of the installed one from the software). Check that out because it can look right but still be the wrong driver. That's all I got, thing was a pain to keep charged and connected.

Edit. My error was with a wireless one. You're using wired?

Forgot to mention in OP, my W7 isn't legit. Not sure if that would cause a problem. My pc also just got done updating so I'll fiddle with it some more. I'm about to try my first pc game (besides ffxi) and want the comfort of my controller!

I have a wireless controller and I also have the one that's wireless but came with the usb adapter/charger.

I just read this! Very disappointed but what can you do. I'll see if a friend has the wireless adapter. Thanks for the replies though

Yeah the P&C cable is power only. There's no data traffic through that cable.
