The DARK Act or How Liberals can be stupid too

The appearance from the Academy Award-winning actress and her actress mother Blythe Danner comes about two weeks after the House passed the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act. The bill, which has yet to be introduced in the Senate, would keep states from issuing their own mandatory labeling laws and create a federal standard for companies that want to voluntarily label their food.

Paltrow — escorted by Sens. Jon Tester (D-Mont.), Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) — was at the Capitol Wednesday to gain more support for the petition the Just Label it Campaign generated last week that asks the U.S. Senate and President Obama to reject the House-passed bill opponents have renamed the "Denying Americans the Right to Know or DARK Act.

I'm not sure banning the labeling of gmos is a smart move, since it just feeds into the argument the anti-gmo crowed has about Big Ags desire to hide something, but there is really no legitimate reason to label food that has gmos in it. The mantra of "i have a right to know what's in my food" is even more absurd when you consider that genetic modification is a process and does not necessarily involve creating anything new that doesn't already exist in nature. So you're not asking for what's in your food, you're asking for what kind of breeding technique is used to produce the seed that produces the plants that are in your food. But that is not as catchy.

Fucking anti-GMO people make me want to kill bunnies.

You can't support science in climate control, then immediately deny it in GMO's.

Anti-GMO movement is hardly a liberal talking point. This anti-science shit reigns supreme for all those on the right as well. This is a topic that unites the ignorant masses across the aisle.

Monsanto is evil for their abusively litigious approach to enforcing their copyright on living organisms.

Making and selling the organisms themselves isn't bad.

Because the anti-GMO crowd contains a large chunk of liberal hipsters. Same people who pushed the gluten-free fad.

So you know you're from Wichita when just because you try to limit your fast food intake, hometown friends call you vegan as an insult.

I mean, it's really not, but okay. There's always a need for "zomg both sides!" so everyone can fit into their neat little boxes.

They've made it so that farmers are unable to legally stockpile their GMO seedcorn, which makes sense (for them) because otherwise they'd only be able to sell their product once. They'll occasionally go around genotyping corn in fields that shouldn't have their product, and if it comes back positive the farmer gets a lawsuit.

I don't know exactly how many lawsuits actually go to court vs. settle out of court and how hard Monsanto hits for, but I know the farmer half of my family is scared of them.

GMO crops should to be controlled and contained in the same way that pesticides need to be contained to prevent unintentional damage to the environment and to prevent cross pollination with farmers crops who don't want to participate in the subscription based seed services. Other than that the fear of GMO's for health reasons is silly. Also Monsanto has unscrupulous business practices just like any other giant corporation.

Farmers already engage in attempts to control cross pollination regardless of whether the crop is a gmo or not. And also, you would have to justify why a specific gmo crop requires added controls rather than making a blanket statement.
