Dust 514

If this works, this can simply be the most epic FPS ever.


Basically, EVE Online has planets and space hubs. Dust 514 is an MMFPS set in that universe on those things.

The 2 games interact with one another (you can see incoming invasion fleets, planetary bombardments).

just watched a video, looks a little like halo(I was a fan of the 1st halo) so a good shot I could like it^^

It could take me away from CoDMW2 for a time too if its good whats the RD?

my only fear is if it turns out to be a bust what will happen to EVE? it could harm that game.

It wont hurt it. The FPS will depend on EVE, not the other way around. It comes out in 2010 Q3.

The game features users fighting ground battles in wars on planets in the Eve Online universe.[3] According to a preview by Edge, the events that happen in this game will affect the EVE Online universe. Battles in this game can also determine who controls various planets in the EVE universe, and users in Dust 514 can interact with users from the EVE universe such as providing mercenary assistance.[4] In an interview conducted by Simon Carless of Gamasutra, Petursson said that he hopes "these [Eve Online and Dust 514] communities will meld over time", bridging the two environments. He also wanted to establish a relationship between the flying-oriented nature of Eve Online and the infantry-oriented nature of Dust 514, saying "while the fleet does the flying, the infantry does the dying". [3] According to Game Informer, this gives fans and players of Eve Online a new challenge in testing their FPS skills.[5]

still think its a bad idea to have events in this game screw with EVE(even tho I dont play it ~_~) who knows it could be a cheap way to take down big clans and what not.

For the most part the whole idea has gone down like a lead balloon with the Eve community as Dust itself is tied into the Sovereignty system in Eve and therefore Eve corporations it seems will have to more or less hire console Dust player "mercenaries" to enable them to control pockets of space within Eve.

The concept itself seems interesting as some sort of social experiment where console gamers will be fighting more or less in accordance with contracts issued to them and with supplies/weapons etc supplied to them by their Eve PC "masters".

Console players = front line grunts, PC players = army generals

The whole thing could be taking both FPS and MMO to another level introducing almost a level of RTS into the genres but the units would be actual console gamers. Could be a huge flop but kudos to CCP for attempting such a thing.

Any word if PS3 & 360 players play together? I'm assuming the answer is no at this point and that both games work as 'one' in the sense of what EVE Online players will see and can interact with.

I'll be keeping my eyes on this, my main beef with EVE was its slow paced nature, but I'm digging the concept of Dust and its integration. I'm also assuming there's no monthly fee also, as that would just kill the potential playerbase.
(it would also encourage existing EVE players to play both since it would be of no extra cost to them other than the console fees)

You do afaik OXM said cross platform so one would assume, the only thing I hope doesnt happen is EVE gets like Halo-esque weapons for like planet glassing, that would suck for the players on the ground.

Have they said for sure that it is on both consoles? My friend refuses to buy one until he knows it will have Dust on it. (He's a bit special)

DUST 514 News

No Classes - Instead of choosing a class in a traditional MMO, players will define their role by the gear they choose to carry.

How DUST and EVE are linked - Eve and Dust 514 will be link using phased implementation strategy at specific stages during the life-cycle of the two products.

No Subscription Fee - DUST 514 will operate on a micro-transaction model.

AFAIK the game is only confirmed for 360 so far. At fanfest CCP refused to say yes or no to it coming to the PS3.
