    CoP 8-3 Proposed Strategy

Ok, hopefully this won't end up with too many snarky responses - I trust people who have actually completed CoP and have end-game experience more than some random person on Alla with critiquing this strategy.

My CoP static is running the pot battle tonight. We got spanked twice already, and we'd really rather not delay getting this shit done any longer, so I'd like to see if anyone has any suggestions about the strategy we came up with. Both times we did it before we managed to kill one BLM pot and get the other to about half life before we wiped. ><

This is a static, so "OMG dump the (insert job here)" is not an acceptable solution.

    Jobs are:
    73 WHM/BLM (me)
73 MNK/WAR (NIN sub not leveled, so not a good suggestion)
    75 NIN/WAR
    75 THF/NIN
73 PLD/WAR (or BRD/WHM, but we tried that already)
    75 BLM/WHM (or /RDM)

    Strategy is as follows:
Buff outside the BC, RR, etc. PLD, THF, NIN will use sword (they all have it leveled acceptably) for Spirits Within. They will sleep to 300%. WHM and MNK will also sleep to 300% for Hexa Strike and Asuran Fists respectively. All possible meleers will have Icarus Wing as well. MNK uses Blink Band.

MNK will start boosting outside the BC for Chi Blast. When MNK reaches 8-9 boosts, we go in, wait for 11-12. MNK chooses target, Chi Blast.

Hopefully that will cause all the others to start gathering while everyone sprints for the far door, and WHM starts off with ES + Sleepga. Last time it lasted a good 30 seconds. BLM is ready to resleep with ES + Sleepga II.

After sleep, WHM goes in, Hexa > Icarus > Hexa > Disengage, switch to staff, get cozy with the far door. I don't think I'm likely to get hate. PLD, THF, NIN Spirits Within as soon as they engage to avoid losing HP and damage, then NIN and THF will switch to main weapon. MNK Asuran then Hundred Fists. With luck we can get the first one down within 30 seconds with that and move on to the second before Hundred Fists wears. I'm banking on the first sleep lasting through the killing of the first one, but I dunno. ; ; BLM does whatever he needs to to do damage and backup heal.

The other melee use Icarus Wing for the second pot and do a yet-to-be-determined skillchain for the BLM to burst off of. If the RDM's wake up and we can't sleep them again, PLD uses Invincible to buy us some extra time, while keeping close to the door so we can raise(lets hope they decide not to spam too much magic, Benediction is available too). Hopefully we can get the second BLM pot down and start in on the first RDM before we all take a nosedive. Die near the door, RR after pots move back to postions, rest up. By then ES should be back, so we ES + Sleep or Sleep II the second RDM while we kill the first. If we can get that far it shouldn't be a problem.

So my questions to you guys are:
    1. Is it worth it for me (WHM) to melee at the beginning? if I get killed in a bad spot, then everyone is fuxored. I thought that extra damage at all would be helpful, and my club is decently leveled.
    2. Is the damage from Optic Induration just random? I know it's a frontal AOE, but one time it was pointed at me and I only took 200 damage, the other time it one-shotted our NIN who's got 1000 HP. Is this another gay SE luck thing?
    3. Has anyone done this fight without dying and RR?
    4. Any other ideas? We're all getting seriously sick of these missions ><

Yeah, BLM/RDM x5, BRD/WHM... rotate ES + Sleepga II and concentrate on nuking one at a time till all are down. That's how we managed it without death or reraise.

Well, I have 2 answers for you

    1. As WHM make sure to have enmity- gear on when you start with hexa. Hexa helps damage but you don't want a lot of extra hate for when you have to toss down a curaga. Then again it looks like the 1st pot wont last long, so its your call.

    2. Optic induration, from what I heard, does damage based on damage dealt to it in a certain period of time (I heard theres a charge up but I've never seen it.) I'm guessing its from when it goes into the form that allows optic induration.

As a side note, you can save yourself some gil and time. There is no "zoneline" between the Garden of Ru'Hmet and the BC, so you can get 300% TP outside the BC and then enter the BC, maintaining TP.

Strat sounds pretty solid, just remember the pots won't sleep w/o ES. If you can get both BLM pots down before dying, you're home free.

If it makes you feel any better, this battle was the toughest of the entire CoP storyline for my static. The last fight was almost a CS for us, comparatively.

Doh, I didn't realize that going up the elevator didn't count as a zone! Thanks, that'll save a bit of gil there.

Use reraise gear and have everyone fight near the door where you start. If you wipe you can RR and try again.

you only need 4 blms and can leech 2 at a time (dont need SP) if people don't fuck up. See if you can bribe people. But really the best bet may be to get TP from aerns outside the BC and just ES, and zerg the fucking shit out of the blm pots, ic wings, 2 hrs, soulvoice if you have it. Just make them cry they only have about 4000 hp i think

I slept a pot without Elemental Seal, on my BLM.

And I don't have Enfeebling skill merits. If you have a BLM with like, really high enf skill (aka ~RDM's unequipped/merited, 276ish) you should be able to sleep these unresisted a few times before ES. The sleepgaII landed was after two EleSeal SleepgaIIs.

I really love these kinds of answers.

"OMG YOU ONLY NEED 4 BLM LOLZ" Sorry, it's a static, we've done everything together, and BLM's are not the answer to everything. This is why people get mad at BLM's when the job itself isn't what's broken.

Thank you for the HP information, though.

Hmmm. That didn't happen for us, we had BLM, RDM and WHM/BLM -- never had it work w/o Elemental Seal. Not saying it wouldn't, but it's probably not safe to depend on it.

Actually my info on the 4 blm part was to an earlier person who said 5 blm, just saying that it can be done with 4, good info to have, and just because you're hiring or forcing at gun point 3 other blms to help your group out doesn't make it an invalid in regards to your original requests for help ^^

The first day this fight came out i won with like pld, 2 blm, brd whm rdm and we all lost alot of xp, i dont think that strat would work very well now with the double weakened crap SE has now :/

It's just luck you get resisted 9/10 times. In any case don't base your strategy around blm sleepga'ing without ES.

ya just did this w/ nin/nin/blm/rdm/whm/brd

it was pritty easy with this strat, won first round were able to kill both blms and get rdms to half b4 wipe. just make sure your on the other side when you do, obviously. idk if we were just lucky but the blms were just dumb as hell casting stone lol and aero no sleepga or w/e so we got a little lucky i would say there.

as for your strat def make pld brd and blm sub rdm. it would be helpfull if mnk could get nin lvled since your gonna be curing him alot, but it should be doable. go in rr pins like usual, use food. have nin run up first to gather them and have the blm elemental seal sleepga them. by the time they wake you should have the first one just about done. since you have alot of melee power make them bring opo opo+sleep pots and an wing. unfortinatly you wont be doin a good sc w/ a mnk+thf so ide say solo ws.

the whm shouldnt melee you should have enough problem just tryin to keep everyone alive long enough to kill off the 2xblms. as for the brd just do a round of songs probobly double haste melee, ballad mages and help sleep. blm should focus mainly on just keeping them slept, brd needs to be ontop of sleeping if one shall fail. be warned as brd i wasnt able to sleep 100% of the time, more of 3/4 of the time i would be able to land a sleep on them. make ur brd heal a bit as well, personally i love the divine seal curaga II when your party is about to whipe just to give them a few extra moments in the battle at your expense.

we did this bc in 20min, the time limit is 30 so i believe we might have been able to recover from a 2nd wipe just in time to win. also we had to raise both our nin w/ rIII since one rr because he died to early, the other rr because he was to far out.

g/l - rajas ring ftw - now for my noobyness to do DM

Except you if you can do it with 4 blms that leaves space for 2 members every time ^^ so you're not ditching anyone if you really wana keep getting picky about this

Hexa isn't going to do well unless you sacrafice good MP gear/food for ACC, not to mention that these things have pretty nasty WSs that you likely don't want them to use, and Hexa being 6 hit usually gives a mob a good chunk of TP. I think the Hexa is a bad idea unless maybe its part of a skillchain for the BLM to burst on if for some reason you can't come up with a SC for the other melee. (SC owns these things pretty hard)

Also, I don't think the THF, NIN or even the PLD should build for spirits, I think you should do 2 WSs between PLD, THF, NIN, and MNK, you have a lot of options if everyone has their quested WS of choice and since these mobs don't have an element, the BLM can burst anything and likely not be resisted.

If you plan on wiping anyway, then do not be afraid to kill yourself by overcuring, although with luck, that won't happen unless you Bene since the melee are gonna be really putting on the damage.

I think the BLM should get the first Sleepga because the most important thing is the mobs not casting a shit load of Agas on you (Trust me, they do, I did this fight 2 nights ago... AgaIIIs everywhere), or stripping your tanks shadows or killing your WHM. When the mobs wake up, there is a good chance the BLM will be in the middle of casting something and I don't think a WHM will last very long against 3 pots, I know that as a RDM, I didn't last nearly as long as I needed to. Point being, you are planning on dying, make sure you can get done what you need to get done before doing so. Go with the longer duration Sleep first.

Don't think that its over if you only kill one BLM before first wipe. My group wiped twice and still had enough time to get back up and finish the job with a minute or so to spare.

All of those things you learn in PTs about hate control and holding back don't apply here, everyone needs to go balls to the walls and don't hold back. If you are planning on using the PLD Invincible to buy some time, make sure the PLD has hate on all the mobs before using it, just aggro doesn't count, he actually needs to have done something to them all. Best thing I can think of is simply toss a cure to whoever did the Sleepga as casting on someone with hate gives you hate as well.

In Soviet Russia, pots manaburn YOU!
    • Remember that it's not the end of the world if you wipe. As long as everyone dies in a safe place (one of the two doors) you can always reraise and continue. I don't believe you can tractor in there (correct me if I'm wrong), so if things start to go south, make sure everyone knows to die at the end of the room instead of in the middle.[/*:m:351fd]
    • If you manage to take both of the BLM pots out before you go down and can still make a full recovery, you pretty much have it in the bag. 30 minutes is longer than it seems in this BC.[/*:m:351fd]
    • Sleep/Sleepga: You need Elemental Seal. Sure, you might be able to land it without ES now and then, but in this BCNM you simply do not have the margin of error. If your crowd control isn't 100% effective you are screwed, period.[/*:m:351fd]
    • A couple Hexa Strikes at the start will definitely help, assuming they do decent damage. Anything to take one of those BLM pots out of the picture faster is a good idea. The RDM pots are gimps in comparison.[/*:m:351fd]

I wish you luck, as this is the hardest mission in CoP, even if you manaburn it...which you aren't. Be sure to savor the victory and enjoy 8-4.

Did this as PLD NIN SAM RNG WHM BLM the other day.

PLD runs in, aggros them all and stands still until they all group together. BLM E.Seal SleepgaII them all. Everyone goes crazy on one of them to kill it off in like 15 seconds. That way you have time to kill the second BLM before the RDMs wake up from Sleepga. They might wake up in the midst of killing the 2nd BLM, if possible, BLM should nuke hard on the last pot before the others wake up. If you can kill both BLMs, you are golden.

Once BLMs die, wipe at the back door. Reraise, rebuff, wait for E.Seal recast to come back on (should be back up about the same time as your weakness wears off). SleepgaII the RDMs when ready. Pick one, smash it to peices. Just make sure mages keep buffs up for when the other RDM wakes up and spam sleep on it.

Won this BC first try with this strat. Not our own strat, it was recommended to us. We just tweaked it to the jobs we had.

Use Icarus, whatever, just kill the two BLMs before you die.

My setup wasn't far from this.

mnk, nin, thf, rdm, whm, blm

    Build tp outside.

Asuran Fists -> Blade:Jin = Fusion -> Shark Bite = Light. MB it and that's one dead pot.

Mnk, nin and thf all have really fast tp gain. So do it again. We did the farther pots first. Skillchain again and that one was dead. Then you're left with 2 pots. If you can, have monk hundred fists, 3rd pot dead. Then just finish last pot.

My team didn't use any 2 hours, wiped once, we had one pot down to 50% when ice spikes finally killed me (lol) we just raised up and killed the final pot. It was easy.

To open the match I ran in as thf, had a mage ES+Sleepga. I advise blm/rdm for this match as you might want recast on sleepga down. I ran in and had no shihei so I couldn't cast utsu again and still survived and we won the fight without much trouble.

This BC was easy in our setup. Just use the sc I said and pots will die.

I've beaten the pot bc with 3 blm and 2 blm setups without wiping. So you don't need 4, or 5, or even 3 blm.
