ToAU Shortcomings

So I drop 8mil to buy some Fuma Sune-ate and a pair of Dusk Gloves to complement my Koga Hakama and NQ Amemet Mantle...and I decide to go test them out in the new ToAU areas. All is fine and dandy, I decide to go get my NPC (for haste + cures) and grab Sanction for a little bit of IS...

Only I can't call my NPC in any of the new areas...gah. Back to kuftal.

As much as the Far East was hinted at in the NPC quests you do, its kinda surprising that it cant be summoned there at all (yet).

If the biggest shortcoming of this expansion is that you can't summon NPCs in new areas, then this expansion is the closest you can get to perfect this side of heaven.

I would bet the reason you cant call your npc yet is because of the amount of people in the new areas. They knew that everyone would be flooding the new areas with their NPCs and they are having enough problems with overcrowding in the new areas as it is. I would bet that as soon as the hype dies down in the new areas and people start to spred out across the game more they will open the new areas to NPCs.

They mentioned a while back about how that was the reason they held back on implimenting things like NPCs was because they were afraid of overcrowding and slamming the servers and/or ps2 being able to handle it with all its "memory restraints".

No. NPCs are a useful tool. I soloed THF (yes thf) past the dunes without taking a single horrid torturous dunes XP party. And I didnt see anyone complaining about the roaming, aggroing gobs, bunnies etc. between selbina and the outpost being killed. (Hell, I got more people thanking me for saving their butts).

I have NEVER had an issue of someone with an npc "stealing" my exp mobs. Most of the time i'm using an NPC, im trying to get exp.

Wait until your THF gets 50+, you won't be able to avoid it.

It's not the npcs that are gay, it's the people calling them out in exp zones that are. I always call mine out in Uggalepih temple or some shit where nobody goes.

Exactly. It's like people can't think outside the box enough to figure out alternate places where they could take their NPCs to level. They just follow the same pattern the typical exp party follows. Meanwhile they are killing all the mobs in the area way to damn fast and killing it for any exp party in the area.

Kuftal is one of the worst, especially when there are SO many places in that area to kill crabs where exp partys dont camp, but people with NPCs still stick to the exp camp areas.

I love people who complain about lvling THF, then you /sea them and they are THF/WAR or THF/WHM or something. I soloed THF to 21 with MNK sub and it wasnt even hard, could one shot ep mobs with SA boost combos. Grats on doing something easy I guess.

I'm sure there will be a quest in a future update to get your NPC to the new zones. I know I would love additional damage farming the EP/DC mobs in Waojam Woods for buffer XP/seals.

There's only a couple things that bug me about this expansion. The most glaring thing I've seen is requiring a Wamoura Cloth for the first Puppetmaster upgrade and also making that cloth be the main component in many synths.

The drop rate off the bug things is horrible and the guild only sells a couple a day. Kinda shitty that a job needs a 2-4 million gil cloth to level up past 10 without being gimp. It just makes leveling PUP a huge money sink and keeps some armor (even though it's not spectacular) out of peoples hands.

The other beef I have is making Cerberus another retarded timed pop NM. It's only going to be the 24/7 linkshells that can even claim it after awhile. >.>

Two pretty minor things, I suppose. I'm really happy with the expansion so far. It just seems a whole hell of a lot more fun than the previous one. It was thirty dollars well spent.

I remember cleaning out Garliage basement multiple times w/ my npc because that was the easiest place for me to get to that was under sandy control, so I could get my Adaman Curiass.
