Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI

Just got this yesterday and just started playing it this morning.

It already looks amazing. The level of detail and customization is far beyond that of the last game.

It only costs $40 (compared to most other PS2 games) and I think I'm going to get my money's worth.

    Anyone else play this yet?

I have always wanted to play one of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games. Everytime a new one comes out I am tempted to rent/buy it, but I always find some reason not to.

I like Koei's treatment of the whole thing in dynasty warriors and I do enjoy strategy games.

So I ask you good pope. Is it worth it?

it is very worth it. Very challenging and detailed.

I have been playing them since they have been on SNES and they keep getting better (except 9, that one kind of hit a rock on the road)

I played RotK3-8 and they were all fantastic. #3 was the best imo, but I also haven't tried 9-11, but I've been thinking about picking up 11 soon.

Man i'm going to customize my own nation and make the church of yin.

ill create a bunch of generals and ministers and name them after council of yin members, then make a Yin character that will have LDR, WAR, INT, POL, and CHR all to 99 BABY!.

hmm as far as Rocl goes, ill give him a
    LDR 87
    WAR 90
    INT 95
    POL 90
    CHR 60

How hard can it fucking BE because seriously at this point it's hard to get my other ROTK playing friend over. Why should I when there's wonderful stuff like Xbox Live?

Same reason Nintendo makes money even when everyone else wonders why, there's a steady growing number of players.

This game was so confusing I couldn't even make it through the tutorial without turning it off in frustration.

They're actually not "characters", more like exggerated caricatures of real people who actually existed between 160 and 260AD China. These "characters" are indeed in Dynasty Warriors I-V (plus spinoffs), Kessen II, Dynasty Tactics I-II, Romance of the Three Kingdoms I-XI, and even Destiny of an Emperor for the NES. There also exists about 4 different CCGs, a set of Magic: The Gathering (Portal 3), and some board games all based on this era of history.

If you have an interest in the history, you can read the book at http://www.threekingdoms.net. Its a good read I'd recommend to anyone even remotely interested.

It is same characters but different game the Romance of Three Kingdoms games are basically a reallly complex version of RISK.

They up to 11 now? Last one I played was 8. I might get the new one

I've honestly spent more time playing the RTK games than playings FF games with the exception of 11 of course. If you like strategy games they're really the cream of the crop, if you don't though I wouldn't waste your time.

It's only confusing at first, and trying to read the manual will only make it more confusing. The best way to learn the game is just play around with it for 2-3 hours when you first get it, and you'll get the basics down in no time. Everything else is ad hoc learning.

I played a ton of ROTK2 on SNES. Me and a buddy spent a few months conquering a map until there was only me and him left. We eventually had to stop playing and call a draw.

I've tried playing 6&7 but just couldnt get into them =/

If you're not a fan of Romance of the three kingdoms but do like those types of games and happen to like dynasty warriors, you should try out dynasty warriors empires, it's the same thing almost but game style is more relavant to dynasty warriors than Romance.

I just got it online, so I'm hoping it'll arrive by this weekend. I've played III on the PC, VI on the PSOne, and I just recently got X on PS2, so I've always been a big fan of the series. I wanted to try out the officer-centered vs. rule-centered games, but I think I'll like the latter more. If that turns out to be the case, I'll probably sell X and just stick with XI.
