Anyone who interpreted the movie as something other than an all out manly symphonic asswhomp of epic proportions needs to be lined up and shot.

People in this world need to stop being a bunch of thin skinned pussies.

“It is a new effort to slander the Iranian people and civilization before world public opinion at a time of increasing American threats against Iran,” it said.
    OK!

People need to understand what the comic/movie is exactly. It's modern myth. It is what Spartans would say around campfires about the battle. Of course the bad guys are going to be outrageously evil.

    EDIT:
    Then again, I wonder...

Could a movie like 300 be made and be as popular if it was about Iranians?

seriously, which part of "it is not a documentary but a movie based on a graphic novel" don't they get? i have seen quite a few "professional reviewer" who gave the movie a negative review because it was historically inaccurate, it's getting abit perposterous.

    HISTORICAL EVENT

Jesus some people need to be shot. If anyone finds offensive in a movie like that it's extremely sad. Iran =/= Persian Empire.

"Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said the United States tries to “humiliate” Iran in order to reverse historical reality and “compensate for its wrongdoings in order to provoke American soldiers and warmongers” against Iran."

What reversal of history? THE PERSIANS BEAT THE SPARTANS IN THE FIGHT THERE. And what wrongdoings are we compensating. I doubt anyone that saw 300 went "Hey dem damn iranians! they killed the king!" and went out of the theater mad at Muslims.

I fail to see the connection. 90% of Americans wouldn't even know that what we call Iran now has any connection at all to Persia in history.

Someone needs to give the Iranian government a lesson on the american political system. Unlike in Iran, the US government doesn't get to approve of the production of, and doesn't (except in a few very isolated incidents) promote specific films.

Many Iranian born people do call themselves "Persian", and a large part of the Persian empire is in modern day Iran - it is a part of their national history, just...really really long ago.

For the "what does this have to do with Iran" crowd:

    Per·sian
    –adjective
    1. of or pertaining to ancient and recent Persia (now Iran), its people, or their language.
    –noun
    2. a member of the native peoples of Iran, descended in part from the ancient Iranians.
    3. a citizen of ancient Persia.
    4. an Iranian language, the principal language of Iran and western Afghanistan, in its historical and modern forms. Compare Old Persian, Pahlavi, Farsi.

I don't really know how modern-day Persians view Xerxes or the Persian empire, but in the movie and graphic novel they do come across as poor fighters, bloodthirsty conquerers, and...insane mutants? I don't know about their fighting skill or conquerering tendencies, but I'm pretty sure there were no insane mutants in ancient Persia - that might be some of the historical reality that they felt was being reversed.

I think G.W. was right - Ahmadinejad hates our freedom.

History is written by the victors, get used ot it Iran.

I think this is just another example of what we've seen time and again, that muslims, usually only those extremeists and government officials because they're the only ones you get to hera from, have 1) no sense of humor, 2) take everything they see and hear at face value without looking for alternate meanings, and 3) Are willing to go to war over just about anything. So maybe their interpretation of the movie was right...

“The film depicts Iranians as demons, without culture, feeling or humanity, who think of nothing except attacking other nations and killing people,” Ayende-No said in its article Tuesday.
Seems to me from this outcry over the movie that they really are warmongering fools. And to end my little opinion piece, I will semi-quote the great Lewis Black.

Without a sense of humor, religion and patriotism can get crazy. Religion and patriotism need humor or people go nuts, and we see that in our enemy. Thats what happened with the Taliban, thats what the Al Queida are all about. These are people who have no sense of humor, thats the bottom line. You can't argue with the fact that they have a religion and they have a faith, and they certainly believe in a certain ideal. It may be completely nuts but they believe in it. You know when a people doesn't have a sense of humor when somebody can actually stand up in a room and go "You know, if you commit suicide for Allah, when you die, you'll immediately be met in heaven by 70 virgins." and then nobody in the room just goes "AHHAHAHAHA SON OF A BITCH, THAT WAS GREAT!" because you know its an extrordinary amount of faith to believe that when you die you're going to meet 70 virfins in heaven. How could you even concieve of that, when I haven't one ON EARTH!

my brain hurts.... the graphic novel came out in 1998, and in 1962 they came out with the first 300 based on the same event. So yeah, I think they are attention whores.

Not that they will ever see the movie because of their laws, but I don't think Americans would ever picture Iranians as the Persians. Isn't the large reason why they won't open up to watching western movies because they have a strong culture which is AGAINST showing skin/sex. In fact if they wanted to look at it as a political piece : big giant army of flashy soldiers, carting around elephants, magic weapons, and a tent of sexy transsexuals are trying to take the land away from poor little Sparta. Sounds like we should be the Persians from any perspective, hell Xerxes was going to let the Spartans be their own country as long as they paid tribute right?

I think over all it is an entirely stupid idea, the movie is based on a comic book, its not a political statement its just a bunch of people having fun (omg not fun!) Even if it was a political statement I see no correlation as to how Iran = Persia, aside from geographically, and if then Sparta != America

You're giving the Iranian government way too much credit by calling them "stupid." They know what this movie is and isn't, calling it an insult to their country is just part of an ongoing propaganda program aimed at people who don't get much access to outside (Western) media.

I love when other countries get mad at our movies saying that there's some political agenda about it. Like when Borat came out, Kazakhstan got totally pissed and even notified President Bush about it. If I were him, my response would have been "Listen, this is America. There's a movie out there about ME GETTING SHOT for goodness sake. (Death of a President) Now give it a rest... sheesh"

Wasn't Death of a President an English movie? Not that it matters.
