    Laptop screen cutting out?

    Weird problem...
It started yesterday, I plugged my laptop in at a friend's house when the battery was low, and suddenly the screen would start going black every 10 minutes or so. Pressing the small button that usually gets pressed with the laptop closes would cause the screen to come back. Taking out the power cord would stop this from happening.

When I went home, and plugged in, it started doing the same crap, but only once every hour or so. It isn't really a big deal, but I'm afraid it could indicate a more serious problem. It's still under warranty, since I purchased it through school, so if it's something I can't fix I'll just have them do it. Was just curious as to what some of the hardware gurus here thought might be causing this...

Oh, and both power cords are the same make, and neither causes a problem in anyone else's computer.

Check the power settings? Make sure its not supposed to go off at those intervals.

It's not, and those would only be triggering if it was idle, I believe

Could be overheating. Happens all the time to my old Gateway Solo, except instead of going black, it turns into a disco frenzy of dancing pixels.

It sounds like the wiring inside your laptop may be faulty or loose. Obviously battery and A/C power get routed differently so it would explain why the problem only presents itself on A/C power. If you've installed something recently, I would go back in and make sure all the connections are secure and nothing came loose. Is there anything you can think of that causes the screen to go black, such as moving the computer itself or anything that would indicate something is unseated within the computer?

If none of that helps there's nothing else I can think of, it's something you'll probably have to send back to get serviced assuming its under warranty.

possibly there's a short in the reed switch (the little button that goes down when your laptop lid is closed).

    Simple fix.
