A note before I go on:
Well would you look at that? Yin is in the title! Looks like 50% of people will turn away and not read it now. Just writing this note to let the Yin fad haters know that just because Yin is in the title of the story, it doesn't mean it's going to be a whole story of "Praise be to Yin." Yin is not the main character, I am not the main character, the Church of Yin is not the protagonist. Hate the Yin fad all you want, but this story was seriously written has a pretty deep plot. I also wrote it a little bit different than traditional fanfic. So thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy the first installments.
This will be moved to Media after the weekend.
Final Fantasy XI - The Ambitions of Yin
Prelogue
Five thousand years ago, the continent to the North was engulfed in a terrible and trying war. An evil lord by the name of Mordon the Corrupt had emerged from the Shadow Realm with one goal in mind; to engulf the entire Northern Continent in darkness and create a new kingdom of malice for himself. Being well versed in the ways of the dark arts, Mordon was able to recruit the Orcish Empire of the North in to his army’s ranks. In a matter of years, Mordon had established his stronghold located in the northeast province of the continent. Mordon the Corrupt named his stronghold The Grand Citadel of Tsegeria and it was from here that he began his conquest of the Northern Continent. There were no kingdoms or republics on the North Continent; the populace of the land consisted of many small villages populated by the different races that had migrated from the southern lands of Vana’diel. The Mordonian forces had very little trouble decimating the many small villages of the continent; thousands of innocent lives were lost and attempts at resistance proved ineffective. It had almost seemed that Mordon the Corrupt’s vision would be realized; however, there would be one final resistance of the time….
The last remaining villages of the continent decided to bond together and muster up as many troops as possible in order to resist the oncoming Mordonian forces. The force that was assembled consisted of any person that was able to don armor and wield a weapon, whether they were male, female, or a child. The end result of this gathering of forces was a small contingent of about five hundred soldiers. This number was nothing compared to the thousands of legions of Orcish troops that were scattered throughout the continent. Nevertheless, the remaining occupants of the Northern Continent were willing to fight to the death to save their beloved homeland which they had worked so hard to preserve. They understood that if they had taken the Mordonion forces head-on they would accomplish nothing; therefore, the leaders of the small army, Rodolfus the Hume, Rutura-Puruha the Tarutaru, Zaldin the Galka, Kaldonius the Elvaan and Yin the Mithra, devised a plan to unleash a direct sneak attack on the stronghold of Mordon the Corrupt; The Grand Citadel of Tsegeria. The five leaders understood that this was an extremely risky undertaking and that their chances of success were extremely low; however, they had no choice, for if they had done nothing the Mordonion forces would have eventually wiped them out. Once the small army had gathered their weapons, provisions, and armor, they set out on the path to The Grand Citadel of Tsegeria.
The five leaders had known the territory of the Northern Continent very well, so they used hidden paths unbeknownst to both Mordon and the Orcs to reach their destination. However, the ease of the journey was too good to be true, for Mordon had discovered their plan to take the Citadel by surprise. In front and throughout the Grand Citadel, thousands of Orcs and hundreds of Orcish Commanders were lined up and ready for battle, with Mordon sitting on his throne in the center of the Citadel. Sorrow had filled the hearts of the five hundred soldiers and they thought all was finished. However, the five leaders mustered up the troops for one final charge for their homeland. There was no option for surrender; they would either live or die in battle…
In one glorious charge, the two armies clashed. The battle was violent and gruesome; both the blood of Orcs and the blood of the five races were spilled. More and more of the allied army’s soldiers were killed as they pushed through the lines of Orcs. As they made their way towards Mordon’s throne, the leaders began falling in battle one by one. First, Kaldonius was killed but not before taking the heads of fifty Orcish commanders, then Zaldin, Rodolfus, and Rutura-Puruha perished in the midst of slaughtering thousands of Orcs and hundreds of Orcish commanders. Only one person had made it to the throne room; that valiant warrior was Yin. Mordon the Corrupt stood and mockingly applauded the efforts of the allied army. As he did this, Orcs entered the massive throne room and surrounded the lone soldier; it was almost as if none of the Orcish legions were killed – there were simply too many. Mordon then raised his staff to deliver the final blow to the hope of the Northern Continent. Yin had stood silent in front of her enemy; overcome with sorrow and grief from the loss of her comrades. Suddenly, Yin stared up in the sky – her eyes glimmered with light. Yin had loved her land too much and this love had filled Yin with a divine light; her conscience was clear and her heart was pure. Yin raised her mighty greatsword and began decimating the Orcish forces. With every swing of her blade, thousands of Orcs perished. Mordon the Corrupt stood back in horror as we watched his entire army fall at the hands of Yin. In a final desperate attempt to quell the divine warrior’s wrath, Mordon unleashed all of his power against Yin, but to no avail. Yin’s love for her land filled her with great resilience and with a blast of holy light, Yin defeated Mordon the Corrupt and the evil lord perished…
After the smoke and ash from the epic battle had cleared, Yin had fallen down to her knees. Yin had used every last bit of energy in her body and soul to save the land that she had loved. She gave up her life to destroy the enemy that had threatened her homeland. However, Yin did not die. Her valor and love were so divine, that Yin was elevated to Godhood. In the ruined Grand Citadel of Tsegeria, Yin’s soul became divine and transcended to the heavens where Yin could gain rest from the effort exerted in to saving the Northern Continent. Thus, the Godhero was born.
All that remained of Yin’s human form was the weapon and armor that she used to defeat the forces of Mordon the Corrupt…
Chapter 1 - Stirring Suspicions
The council chamber was dimly lit; the only sources of light for the room were the brazen torches along the walls of the chamber. All ten members of the Council had entered the chamber and taken their seats. The man who sat in the center began to speak,
Member1: My loyal comrades, the time has finally come. For over a year now we have been working endlessly to allow our plan to become a reality. We have all the information we need; now we must move out and gather the relics. High Priest, please inform of us of your findings in the scriptures.
Member4: Yes, my lord. Along with the aid of our Second Pope, we have discovered all five areas where the relics were placed. I have already dispatched several guards to the first area of interest since it is not too distant from the city. They should be returning with it promptly my lord.
Member3: Are there many beastmen and other creatures in these areas that we should be concerned with? I don’t want any Orcs interfering with our quest.
Member4: Yes, there are scattered settlements of Orcs and the other beasts of the area, but they are nothing our trained soldiers cannot handle.
Member1: We will not be placing such an important task in the hands of our soldiers.
Member4: M’lord?
Member1: The importance of our mission is far too great to be trusted in the hands of our soldiers, no matter how loyal or powerful they are. We will handle the collection of the relics ourselves to ensure our success. If anyone should decide to stand against us, we would be able to defeat them with ease.
Member4: I understand and I agree.
Member1: Assault Tactician, Weapons Master, Holy Hero, Charioteer Captain, what have you gathered from your scouting in the north? Will we be able to travel there with ease?
Member5: The northlands remain nothing but a barren wasteland. We only discovered a few small Orcish settlements; however, they will be no threat to us.
Member8: Transport to the area will not be difficult at all. There are many hidden roads that lead to the area and they are easy to traverse. Once we have collected the relics we should make haste. We cannot allow our plan to be discovered by anyone.
Member10: My lord…
Member1: Do you have something to say Master Scribe?
Member10: Yes my lord…are you certain that this is the correct plan of action that we are undertaking? Is this what our holy Godhero would really desire?
Member1: In due time you will understand, my friend. Do not let your resolve be shaken and do not let your mind become clouded. We shall do what is necessary for the sake of this world. It is our destiny to fulfill the Ambitions of Yin.
The rest of the council members looked at each other and nodded in approval. Each member departed to complete the task to which they were assigned. The only person who remained seated was the leader of the Council. As he sat, he stared at the other side of the room where the light did not reach. He stared in to the darkness with a great resolve in his eyes…
----------
It was about twelve o’clock in the afternoon and it was the busiest time of the day for the Holy Yinican City. Thousands of people were out and about living their everyday lives. Throughout the city stood tall structures built with smooth white stone and adorned with golden domes and minarets. However, nothing was as grand or as magnificent as the structure that lay at the center of the city; The Yistine Chapel. Giant stone columns held up the great archway entrance of the grand chapel and from the structure emerged many golden domes and towers. It was where the Council of Yin, the ruling body of the Province of Yin and the Holy Yinican City, resided.
A lone Hume named Silvius walked through the streets and marveled at the grand architecture of the city, but he remembered that he was there on an important task. He was searching for the Sophia Inn where he was supposed to meet two other people. He stopped at a bazaar and asked a merchant for directions.
Silvius: Excuse me; do you know the way to the Sophia Inn?
Merchant: Ahahaha yes! That is a wonderful inn that you are going to. They have the finest hospitality and the most comfortable of beds! It’s the best place to relax and no one will bother you! It is just beyond the east wing of the marketplace. There is a very large sign so you won’t miss it.
Silvius: Thank you for your help. I hope business goes well for you.
The merchant smiled and nodded at Silvius as he made his way to the east wing of the marketplace. Silvius was a Hume of about average height and was in very good physical shape. He was a captain for the Federation of Windurst and was sent to the Holy Yinican City on a mission of great importance. He was to meet with two other representatives from San d’Oria and Bastok at the Sophia Inn. As he made his way past the east wing of the marketplace, Silvius noticed a large sign that said “Sophia Inn” and he headed towards the doors of the building. The place was very quiet; no one but the clerk who was at the front desk could be heard or seen. Silvius approached the Clerk.
Silvius: Excuse me, my name is Silvius and I am supposed to be meeting with two other tourists. By any chance, have they arrived yet?
Clerk: Ahhhh you mean some fancy looking Elvaan and Hume woman? They said they were tourists from the southlands; they’re probably the people you are looking for. You guys are staying in room seven. It’s at the end of the hall on the left side. Enjoy your stay at the Sophia Inn and enjoy the sights of the Holy Yinican City. Do not hesitate to let me or the other innkeepers know if you need assistance with anything.
Silvius nodded to the clerk and made his way to room seven. As he approached the door, he heard soft whispers coming from inside. He gently knocked on the door and it was answered by a Hume woman. She stared at him for a moment and then nodded to him as she stepped aside and allowed him to enter. There was a tall Elvaan man in the room that was wearing white armor. He sat up straight in his chair and stared directly at Silvius. Silvius then broke the awkward silence.
Silvius: Greetings, my name is Silvius; representative of the Federation of Windurst. I assume that both of you are from San d’Oria and Bastok?
The woman approached Silvius and shook his hand while she said,
Ayame: I am Ayame from the Republic of Bastok. It seems you have found the right place to be Silvius. Just remember, however, that we are here on a mission of secrecy, so please be careful who you decide to reveal your identity to.
The Elvaan stood from his chair and approached Silvius. He raised his fist up to his own chest and saluted Silvius.
Trion: I am Prince Trion of the Royal family of San d’Oria. Although we are from different nations, it is of utmost importance that we work together on this mission.
Ayame: That is odd seeing Windurst send a Hume as their representative. Please do not be offended by my words; I am simply curious.
Silvius: During the Great War, my parents fled Tavnazia and sought solace in Windurst. I was born and raised there and joined the Windurstian military and gained the rank of Captain not too long ago.
Trion: I am sorry to interrupt, but we do not have time for small-talk. We have already arranged for an audience with the Council of Yin. Remember, we are here to try and open trade and communication with the north continent; however, the Church of Yin has been acting suspicious so we must also gather information on their doings. San d’Oria does not trust their adamant denials to open communications with the mainlands.
Silvius: Windurst shares the same opinion.
Ayame: As does Bastok.
Ayame turned towards Trion and inquired,
Ayame: Prince Trion, I am also curious about your presence here. Why would such a high ranking member of the royal family of San d’Oria be sent on a mission such as this one?
Trion: I voluntarily chose to partake in this mission. I have known about the Province of Yin for quite some time now and their religion and history has always intrigued me. I wish to find out more about the ways of the Yinnish people. I would also like to meet the Council of Yin in person and see what kind of people they are.
Ayame: Ah, I see.
Trion: We should start heading towards the Yistine Chapel. Our audience with the Council is scheduled to start one hour from now.
Silvius: Understood; let us be on our way.
The three adventurers gathered their belongings and left their room. As they made their way out of Sophia Inn, the grand spires and domes of the Yistine Chapel were clearly visible to them. They began to travel towards the grand structure…
----------
The three adventurers made haste towards the Yistine Chapel. When they reached the structure, they noticed that security was quite extensive. Many guards that were adorned with fine ruby armor where place throughout the chapel. With their audience slip in hand, they made their way towards the central structure of the chapel; the temple. As they passed through its grand halls, they marveled and wondered at the great sculptures, murals, paintings, and symbols that decorated the temple. As they made their way in to the inner cathedral, they were confronted by a Tarutaru.
Elmer: Greetings and praise be to Yin. I am Master Scribe Elmer of the Council of Yin. I am here to authenticate your audience with the Council. The Council is ready and awaiting your arrival. Please remember that you are not in your home nations anymore, so please pay due respect to the words and gestures of the Council.
Silvius: We appreciate the Council members taking the time to discuss foreign matters with us. We understand that they are very busy in governing the Province of Yin.
Elmer: The time has come, please follow me. Please do not speak until our First Pope has spoken his opening comments.
Elmer led the three adventurers through two massive golden doors. Through the doors was a grand audience chamber that was decorated with the finest jewels, sculptures, and paintings. As they walked in to the room, they looked across it to see the entire Council sitting behind a long table on an elevated platform. Each Council member was sitting on a lavish throne. In the center sat Pope Daahan von Yin I, the head of the Council of Yin. The other members included Pope Rocl L. Roclius IV, Pope Shiz von Niclius III, High Priest Septimus, Holy Hero Epical, Temple Guardian Alleya, Assault Tactician Rykoshet, Weapons Master Kuno, and Charioteer Captain Tearshang. Elmer made his way up the platform and seated himself on this throne with the rest of the Council members. Pope Daahan leaned forward and examined each adventurer thoroughly. While doing this he had a small grin on this face. He was a tall and well-built Elvaan. He had golden hair and light brown eyes with a stare that could pierce the toughest armor. His composure was royal and elegant and a strong religious fervor emanated from his presence. The rest of the Council members stared at the adventurers in silence. Finally, Pope Daahan began to speak.
Daahan: I am Pope Daahan von Yin I, First Pope of the Church of Yin, chosen by the Godhero to create the Church of Yin and govern the Province of Yin. It is rare that we ever have visitors from the nations in the southlands. Tell me, what is the purpose of your presence in the Province of Yin?
Prince Trion stepped forward and gave a respectful bow to the Council and said,
Trion: We are humbled by your presence, great Pope. I am Prince Trion of the royal d’Oraguille family of San d’Oria. I have come here to present an initiative for the Kingdom of San d’Oria and the Province of Yin to open communication with each other. I believe that with the knowledge of both our churches, we would be able to promote peace and alliance between our great nations.
The Council remained silent. Trion was confused as to why they were not speaking. Ayame then interjected.
Ayame: Good day, esteemed members of the Council of Yin, I am Ayame; a representative of the Republic of Bastok. Bastok has always been involved in the production of useful technology that has changed the world. We promote the spread of knowledge and prosperity. We have information that your lands are not familiar with our technology, so we wish to engage in business with your prosperous nation. We believe that you will be able to benefit from our great airship technology. In return, we wish to learn about the great architecture and engineering of your city. We believe that this trade would create a healthy and peaceful alliance between Bastok and the Province of Yin.
Once again the Council remained silent. Pope Daahan did not utter a word. He continued to stare at the adventurers with the same grin on his face. Silvius decided to say his share of words.
Silvius: I am Captain Silvius of the Federation of Windurst. We have recently received information on some of the forms of magic that is used here in the Province of Yin. Being great researches of magic, Windurst wishes to learn more about Yinnish magic, and in return share our knowledge of magic with you. With a bond created between our two nations, we will be able to understand Vana’diel more and hopefully foster peace. Windurst wants nothing more than to work together with the brilliant peoples of the Province of Yin.
The Council yet remained silent. All ten members stared directly at the three adventurers.
Finally, Pope Daahan placed both of his hands flat on the table in front of him, sat up straight, and reared his head in preparation to speak; the grin on his face did not disappear.
Daahan: For five-thousand years, the Province of Yin has been peaceful and prosperous. The sacrifice of the Godhero five thousand years ago allowed for this peace and prosperity to occur. You have come to me with all these proposals of trade agreements and alliances, but I fail to see how these would help our great and independent nation. We are not ignorant of what occurs in the southlands, and with that, we do not wish to engage in any kind of diplomacy or relations with your countries.
Trion was greatly annoyed by the words of the Pope. He motioned in confusion and said,
Trion: What do you mean by “what occurs in the southern territories?”
Pope Rocl interjected with a small snicker.
Rocl: Ha ha ha, how can you be so ignorant towards the history of your own lands?
The comments of Pope Rocl took Trion by surprise as Rocl continued,
Rocl: Since the dawn of your three nations, the southlands have seen nothing but constant conflict and turmoil. How many innocent lives have been lost as a result of your provincial and trivial wars? You speak as if creating alliances with your nations would bring us further peace; yet, we know that our lands would simply be dragged in to your wasteful wars.
Pope Shiz then interjected,
Shiz: Our great nation has not seen a major war since Mordon the Corrupt threatened to transform the continent in to a kingdom of malice. We have not forgotten the fact that our Goddess sacrificed herself to save the lands that we now reside in. We respect and honor that sacrifice. The only wars that occur in the Province of Yin are our occasional skirmishes with the Orcish remnants, but even they haven’t been able to organize ever since Yin shattered their legions five thousand years ago.
Silvius: You speak as if our nations are still engaged in war and conflict with each other! We joined forces during the Great War twenty years ago to stop the forces of the Shadow Lord. The citizens of our nations fought and died together and since those terrible times we have forged peace with each other! Our relationships have drastically changed.
Septimus: Why am I not surprised that someone from the southlands could be so ignorant?
Silvius stepped back in utter shock at the sheer magnanimity of High Priest Septimus’s words.
Septimus: I expected pawns like you to be as narrow-minded as you are. You speak as if your nations are the most loyal of comrades now, but even we know of the contempt that each of your nations holds for each other. When blood is spilled it is not easily forgotten. Although you three stand here united, your nations do not. Your three nations still compete for supremacy and influence in the southlands. Do you honestly believe that there will be no wars in your future? It only takes so much time for mistrust and suspicion to erupt in to war. The alliance between your three nations is poorly constructed and in due time it shall fall apart.
The three adventurers looked at each other in silence. They were shocked by both the words and behavior of the Council and at the same time were contemplating what they had said.
Daahan: The fate of your territories will always be conflict and war. Your own selfish natures and habits cause this. I have made it my personal duty to make sure the Province of Yin never falls to the same fate. We are at peace, our lands prosper, and war is never the cause of death for our people. We wish to keep it that way.
Ayame: I am appalled by your behavior. I did not expect the Council of Yin to behave in such a manner. Is this how you treat the guests of your nation?
Rocl: Our only concern is our own nation. Your expectations mean nothing to us.
Daahan: The truth, lady Ayame, is often unpleasant. But the words we have spoken today are the truth. Whether you choose to believe them or not, you will only have to see for yourself. This audience is now over. Return to your homelands and inform your leaders that we are not interested in any kind of partnership or alliance. Leave our lands at once. Your presence is no longer required here.
Two Yinnish guards entered the audience chamber to escort the three adventurers away from the premises. As they left the audience chamber, an unnoticed figure stood lurking in the shadows of the upper level of the audience chamber…
----------
The three adventurers returned to the Sophia Inn to discuss their next plan of action. They had failed to establish diplomatic relations with the Province of Yin, so now they had to do some reconnaissance and discover why the Council of Yin was so unwilling to open communication with the mainland. As they entered the inn, they were confronted by the clerk.
Clerk: Ah, hello there! How was your touring of the city?
Ayame: It was pleasant. Thank you for asking.
Clerk: Excellent! By the way, there is someone here to see you. She says that it is important; I cannot really describe what she looked like because most of her face was hidden under her cloak, but she said she had to speak to you immediately, so I allowed for her to wait in your room for your arrival.
The three heroes looked at each other in confusion but decided to act naturally.
Silvius: Thank you for informing us, we shall go speak to her now.
Clerk: You are quite welcome, have a good night and may Yin bless you with dreams of peace.
Silvius, Ayame, and Trion approached the door to their room and opened it slowly. Sitting at the table in the room was a woman that was cloaked. All that was visible were her radiant blue eyes that shined from the darkness under her hood.
Trion: Who are you and why is it so important that you speak to us?
The stranger stood from her chair and removed the cloak that covered her face. The woman under the hood was fair and beautiful, but her composure was as if she was carrying a great burden.
Nikkei: My name is Princess Nikkei of the Church of Yin and I have come to speak to you about the Council of Yin. I have some information that I must share with you; I have no one else to go to.
The team was taken by surprise and was extremely confused as to why the Princess of the Church of Yin had visited them.
Ayame: Princess Nikkei? You mean you’re from the Yistine Chapel? Why have you come to speak with us?
Nikkei: I have come to tell you the truth about the Council of Yin. I have come to tell you why the Council treated you as they did today. Will you hear what I have to say?
Silvius: Please, go on. We are greatly interested in any information about the Council and their doings.
Princess Nikkei turned and stared at the fire that was glowing gently in the corner of the room. Her eyes began to fill with remembrance and nostalgia.
Nikkei: The Council used to be a group of great and kind leaders that only cared about upholding the Yinnish religion and promoting peace, prosperity, and growth in their lands. Pope Daahan founded the Council and established the nation of the Province of Yin, and for fifteen years under his leadership, the country has grown successful and powerful. However, one year ago, Pope Daahan…changed…
Silvius: Changed?
The Princess walked over to the wall and placed her hand on it and she continued to stare at the fire.
Nikkei: His kindness diminished and his heart became bitter and cold. I had been on the Council since the beginning of its creation and I had never seen Daahan act or behave in the manner that he did…he had become a different person. He had begun planning for something that was very serious; however, he only revealed the plan to the top members of the Council: Pope Rocl, Pope Shiz, High Priest Septimus, and Prophet Xavier.
Trion: Prophet Xavier?
Nikkei: ……………yes.
Trion: Who is that? He was not present at the audience today.
Silvius: Trion please let the Princess finish.
Nikkei: Whatever it is that Pope Daahan was planning, Xavier greatly opposed it. He demanded that Daahan cease any actions involving his plan; however, Daahan’s ambition was too great. He had gained the favor of almost the entire council. His desire and ambition, however, did not end there…
A tear began to form in the pit of Nikkei’s eye.
Nikkei: Pope Daahan had ordered for Prophet Xavier to be assassinated. He had instructed Holy Hero Epical and Assault Tactician Rykoshet to carry out the murder. Only one man on the Council opposed this action; his name was Supreme Strategist Xyzor. He denounced what the Council had become and shortly after Xavier’s death, he secretly fled the city so that he would not fall to the same fate. He has not been seen since.
Ayame: Is the reason that you are no longer on the Council the fact that you opposed the actions of Pope Daahan as well?
Nikkei: …not entirely. You see…Prophet Xavier was my husband. I hated both Pope Daahan and the Council for what they had done. I wanted to leave these forsaken lands immediately, but Daahan did not allow me to. He was worried that I would seek help from outside the country and try to interfere with the Council’s plans, so he banished me from the Council and keeps me captive within the city. I have no means of escape. Since I am unable to leave the city, I have taken it upon myself to spy on the Council and find out what they are planning to do.
Trion: Have you been able to discover anything thus far?
Nikkei: Yes, although I am not allowed to be present at their meetings, I have followed several of the members throughout the chapel and temple and have eavesdropped on their conversations. By doing this for the past year, I have discovered many things.
Silvius: Please, let us know what the Council is planning so that we may help you.
Nikkei: I have still not been able to find out what Daahan’s plan is yet; however, he has revealed his plan to the rest of the Council for quite some time now, but they do not speak of it outside of their private meetings. However, I do know that the Council is inspecting five different ruins on the north continent and dispatching members to investigate each area for some kind of relic. Please, you must go to these ruins and find out what the Council is looking for. Whatever it is they are planning, they are willing to kill for it. Who knows what they might do next…
Ayame, Trion, and Silvius looked at each other and nodded. Their task was to investigate the secret activities of the Council and now a window of opportunity was presented to them. They also sympathized with Nikkei’s situation and wished to help her.
Silvius: Princess Nikkei, we shall aid you discovering the plot of the Council. We will also do what is in our power to stop them.
Nikkei: Thank you, you have no idea how much this means to me. For too long have I had information and have not been able to do anything with it. You three are my only hope.
Ayame: Do you know the locations of the ruins that the Council is inspecting?
Nikkei: I overheard that several members have been sent to inspect the Ruins of Tawdeen to the south. It would be wise to start your search there. After you are finished there, please return to the city so that we may discuss what you have found.
Nikkei removed a map from her cloak’s pocket and showed the team the path to the Ruins of Tawdeen.
Nikkei: Please, you all must be very cautious. The Church of Yin is a force to be reckoned with. Each council member has their own unique powers and is very strong. If by chance you should come in to contact with one, do not let your guard down.
Trion: We will be cautious. Why don’t you accompany us Lady Nikkei? Being a former member of the Council you should also possess the ability to fight.
Nikkei: No, I cannot. I must remain the city. If Pope Daahan were to find out that I am missing he would conduct an extensive search for me. I cannot allow him to find out that I have been meeting with you. If he catches us, we shall surely be tossed in the dungeons to rot.
Silvius: Understood…we shall set out for the Ruins of Tawdeen. We will not let our guard down and we shall do what is in our power to discover the plans of the Council.
Nikkei: Thank you, I am in your debt. May Yin protect you on your journey.
The heroes bid farewell to Princess Nikkei, left the city, and headed south towards the Ruins of Tawdeen…
----------
The heroes made the long trek to the Ruins of the Tawdeen. Along the way they fought a few Orcs that had discovered them; remnants of a once great force. Finally, they had made it to the ruins. The ruins lied inside an old mountain valley. The ruins were once a great city before the war with Mordon the Corrupt. The ground was barren; there were no trees, grass, or any kind of vegetation. A hollow trench ran along one of the walls of the valley; a river must have flown through it at some point in time. Many ruined structures were scattered throughout the valley; some looked as if they could have once been houses. The heroes made their way towards the inner sanctum of the ruins, on the way; they discovered a Tarutaru that was exploring the ruins as well. The Tarutaru was startled by their presence and immediately put his guard up.
Taru: Who goes there!? Identify yourself! Are you cohorts of the Council of Yin!?
Silvius: No we do not serve the Council nor do we wish to fight you. We are here on a mission of our own accord.
Taru: Is that so? Then who are you?
Silvius looked at Ayame and she nodded at him.
Silvius: We are ambassadors from the southlands here to investigate these ruins and their importance. We have heard that the Council of Yin is also conducting investigations here, so we have come to examine why they are here.
The Taru was of average height and had short brown hair that covered his forehead. He had deep brown eyes that did not lose their fix of the heroes. He was dressed in the gear of a black and red mage.
Devon: I see…very well then, my name is Devon and I am also here on a mission to investigate the doings of the Council.
Trion: Ah is that so? Where have you been sent from? The Empire of Aht Urgan, the Mikado of the Far East, or th…
Devon: Where I am from is of no importance right now. We must make haste; I arrived here not too long before you did. I followed two people here; I could not make out who they were but they were dressed in royal Yinnish garb. They have already made their way towards the inner sanctum so we should trail them immediately. It is ok if I join you three for now?
Ayame: I do not see the harm in it at the time. However, please try not to do anything suspicious. By no means do we trust you, but since we seem to be on a similar mission, it seems best that we should travel together.
Devon: I understand. I will not get in your way and I expect you not to get in mine.
The team made their way towards the inner sanctum of the ruins. The inner sanctum was in a giant cave. The cave had been carved in to a large chamber with several series of halls and rooms leading to the inner sanctum. There were several stone doors that had ancient carvings in them; some had detached from their giant hinges over time and lay on the floor. Throughout the entire cave there was a light eerie glow of green. The heroes pressed on through the halls and they had finally made it to the last set of doors that led to the inner sanctum. One of the doors had already been opened and two people were heard talking to each other from inside the sanctum. Devon held his finger up to his lips to signal for everyone to remain quiet while they listened.
The two people stood facing a large altar that seemed to be holding something very bright. The person on the left was a Hume woman that was adorned in black mage armor. Her gear seemed to be made of the finest black and purple Yinnish silks. Her long brown hair spilled out from the back of her black petasos and she had a fair complexion with light brown eyes. On her back she wielded a black staff that had two spikes encompassing a large purple jewel. It was Weapons Master Kuno of the Council of Yin. To the right of Kuno stood a Mithra dark knight of average height. She wore heavy silver armor that contained seems of ruby red along the edges. On her head she wore a red helm that covered the sides of her head and revealed only her face. She wielded a blood red algol on her back as her weapon; as she stood there her tail swung from left to right; it was Charioteer Captain Tearshang of the Council. They began to talk about the altar and the relic it was holding.
Tearshang: is this it?
Kuno: Yes, it is exactly as Septimus and Daahan described it.
The two Council members stepped to the sides of the altar to gain further examination of the item. As they did this, the item came in to plain view of the heroes. On the altar sat a piece of body armor that shined brightly. The armor made of red gold filled the inner sanctum with a soft crimson glow. From the shoulder plates of the armor emerged two ivory horns. Seams of gold lined the sides, front, and back of the armor.
Kuno: This is amazing is it not Tearshang? This is the hauberk that Rodolfus the Hume gave to Yin as a gift for the raid on Tsegeria.
Tearshang: It’s…beautiful. Can you fathom the fact that we are actually standing in front of something that the Godhero once wore? Even now I can feel the presence of Yin emanating from its flawless design. This armor was able to defend against even the strongest attacks of Mordon the Corrupt himself!
Kuno: Yes, it is a humbling sight. Shiz and Rykoshet should be here shortly. After Shiz examines the hauberk we shall take it back to the temple and move on to the next location.
The heroes listened intently as Kuno and Tearshang spoke to each other. Trion placed his hand on the wall to lean forward and hear them more clearly. As he placed his hand on the wall, he knocked loose a small piece of rubble and it fell to the ground. Kuno’s attention immediately turned towards the entrance to the sanctum. Kuno powered up a lightning attack in her hand and turned around and launched it at the doors.
Trion: MOVE!
The heroes and Devon scattered as Kuno’s mightly blast destroyed the doors of the sanctum. Dust and rubble flew in all directions but the heroes were able to avoid the blast in time. As the dust settled, they got back on to their feet, only to have Kuno and Tearshang standing tall and staring directly at them.
Kuno: Well, well, well, if isn’t the noble ambassadors from the southlands. Why am I not surprised to see you here meddling in our affairs? I will tell you though; you have chosen the wrong affairs to meddle with
Kuno leered at the team with a malicious grin.
Tearshang: Now, now my friends, it is not polite to eavesdrop. Have we no manners? The least you could have done is knock on the door and say hello to us.
Ayame: Enough of this! What does the Council want with this relic?
Kuno: Why is it your concern? Anyhow, it does not matter. Our First Pope ordered you to leave the Province of Yin at once, but you did not obey. Violating the direct command of the Council in these lands is one of the most severe crimes one can commit. Since we are the upholders and judges of Yinnish law, we are going to have to punish you for your actions.
Devon remained silent, but Tearshang noticed him standing behind the three heroes. Tearshang pointed at him.
Tearshang: Ha…hahaha…hahahahaha. Kuno, look who decided to show his face!
Kuno: Hmph, no worries; we will deal with all of them in the same manner.
Both Kuno and Tearshang drew their weapons. The purple jewel on Kuno’s staff began to glow brightly and Tearshang raised her algol over her head in an attack stance.
Kuno: You four are truly fools. You have not the slightest notion of what you are trying to interfere with. It will make no difference though. This is where your meddling shall end!
Kuno and Tearshang charged at the heroes.

The four heroes drew their weapons and prepared to fight as the Weapons Master and Charioteer Captain charged at them. Kuno raised her staff in the air and walloped Ayame with a Retribution attack that knocked her to the ground. Devon retaliated by using Stun on Kuno. Tearshang leaped in to the air and used her devastating Saintly Swipe at Trion and Silvius. The two fell back and were dazed by the attack. Kuno regained her composure and cast a spell of Thunder IV at Devon; knocking him to the ground.
Tearshang: Ha ha ha, you weaklings can’t even provide us with good sport!
Kuno: As I said, you are all fools for contending with the power and ability of the Council of Yin. Now get up, all of you, and come receive your deaths from us!
The four warriors would not back down as they all stood up and prepared to clash with the two formidable enemies once again. Kuno raised her hands up in the air and began to glow red; flames began to emit from her body. Tearshang jumped back and stood behind Kuno.
Kuno: Let us see you fools get up from THIS!
In an instant Kuno unleashed a devastating Heatwave attack. Trion raised his large shield to block the Heatwave and the other three heroes hid behind him in the protection of the shield. The blast hit Trion’s shield with incredible force but it was able to hold up to the attack. Tearshang jumped back in to the fray and charged at Silvius with her Ace Attack. Tearshang was too quick and Silvius was unable to avoid the attack. Silvius was thrown with great force in to the wall. Tearshang, however, did not notice the giant Burst spell forming over her head and in an instant, Devon’s devastating spell knocked her to the ground. Ayame jumped forward and thrust her Katana in to Tearshang. Tearshang fell to the ground and was lifeless.
Kuno: You…you…you mindless barbarians! You will pay for what you have just done!
A giant orb of darkness formed over Kuno as she used Manafont. Her eyes glowed red with furious power and anger as she began to cast Thundaga IV on the four heroes. Silvius recovered from the effects of Tearshang’s Ace Attack. He reared back a tomahawk and launched it at Kuno. It struck Kuno in the arm and her casting was interrupted. Trion saw the opportunity and jumped up in to the air and came crashing down on to Kuno with a thunderous Savage Blade. Kuno’s staff was shattered and she fell to the ground. The battle was over.
Kuno lied on the floor and was on the verge of death from the battle she had just fought. The four heroes were breathing heavily as a result of the difficult fight; they were battered and bruised, but still the ones that were victorious. Kuno dragged herself over to the base of the altar and sat up against it. She grasped her wounds as she looked back at the heroes in angst and disgust.
Kuno: How…how did we lose? How did we lose to mindless barbarians that do not understand the way of Yin?
Ayame stepped forward. Trion, Silvius, and Devon looked on as she spoke.
Ayame: You have been defeated, Weapons Master Kuno. Now tell us, what does the Council want with these relics? What are you planning to do? Speak!
Kuno: Heh…hah…ha…ha…as I said…you are all fools. Your minds and hearts are… clouded with ignorance and…lies. You…you…will never understand. You…will…never…understand…the…Ambitions of Yin…
Trion: The Ambitions of Yin!? What do you mean? Explain yourself!
Kuno’s eyes then swirled in to darkness as death overtook her. The heroes could no longer derive any information from her.
Devon: We should take the relic and leave immediately. They had mentioned that Pope Shiz and Assault Tactician Rykoshet would be arriving shortly. We would not be able to confront them in our current exhausted state.
The four heroes slowly approached the altar. Then, all of the sudden, lines of light appeared before them. They were temporarily blinded by the flash. When they regained their sight, two figures were standing in front of the altar. It was Pope Shiz and Assault Tactician Rykoshet. Shiz looked around him and noticed the bodies of Kuno and Tearshang.
Shiz: It appears that I have arrived too late…
Shiz stared at bodies of both Kuno and Tearshang once again. A look of remorse filled his face; then, he turned towards the heroes as he looked at them with a malicious and vengeful scowl.
Shiz: So, you have decided to challenge the Church of Yin? You will find it to be the biggest mistake of your life. Our will, hearts, minds, and ambitions are far too strong for some meddlesome heathens from the south to stop us. We shall strike down upon thee with the divine wrath of the Godhero and you shall spend the rest of eternity in darkness. Mark my words; you have enacted the process of your own doom.
Rykoshet stepped forward and glared at Devon.
Rykoshet: So you have decided to show your face in these lands once again. You will pay dearly for the treachery you have committed today and your foolish friends shall suffer the same wrath.
Silvius: Enough of this! We will do whatever it is in our power to find out what you are planning! Explain yourself Pope Shiz! What is the Council planning! We are concerned about the safety and welfare of our homeland.
Shiz flashed Silvius a malicious grin.
Shiz: Who are you to give me orders? I am Pope Shiz von Niclius III, Third Pope of the Church of Yin and in due time, what you think or care about shall not matter. Rykoshet, secure the Godhero’s Hauberk.
Rykoshet stepped towards and altar and removed the hauberk from it.
Devon: We will not let you take that!
The heroes prepared to fight as they drew their weapons once again.
Shiz: As much as I would like to finish you heathens off now, we have some important business to attend to. Mark my words however, for on this day you have murdered two Council of Yin members. Your crime will not go overlooked. The Church of Yin will have its revenge.
Rykoshet: This is not the end. You have started a war that we shall surely win.
Shiz snapped his fingers and several Yinnish Soldiers rushed through the entrance of the sanctum; then, Shiz teleported himself and Rykoshet out of the chamber. His wild laugh could be clearly heard as they teleported. The Yinnish troops charged at the heroes but they made quick work of them; however, it was too late, Pope Shiz and Rykoshet had escaped and they took the relic with them.
Trion: Damn! We have failed.
Silvius: The “Ambitions of Yin”…What could that mean?
Ayame: I do not know. Perhaps we should go back to Nikkei and see if she knows what it means. Maybe she has found out some more information about the Council’s plot.
Devon’s attention was immediately sparked at the mention of Nikkei’s name.
Devon: You know Princess Nikkei of the Church of Yin? I would very much like to accompany you to the city and meet her.
Silvius, Ayame, and Trion consulted each other about Devon’s request. At first they were hesitant, but since Devon fought so valiantly alongside them, they decided to trust him for the time being.
Trion: Very well, we shall allow you to accompany us back to the city.
Devon: Thank you. We should leave promptly in case the Council sends more soldiers to Tawdeen in search of us.
The heroes then departed from the Ruins of Tawdeen and made their way back to the Holy Yinican City to consult with Princess Nikkei. As they made their journey back to the city, they began to realize that this adventure was far from over. They understood now that the Church of Yin was their enemy and that they were plotting to do something nefarious. They understood that their new mission on the north continent was to stop the Council of Yin...
Ambitions of Yin Supplement
Several years ago, Yin returned to Vana'diel after resting for 5,000 years and revealed Yinself to Xavier. Yin had commanded Yin's prophet to facilitate the follwing of Yin as a god of justice, strength, virtue, knowledge, and intelligence. Yin commanded Prophet Xavier to seek out a man that would aid Xavier in creating a following of Yin.
At this time, Xavier was a member of the Order of the Blue Gartr; a mercenary army that took on the task of ridding Vana'diel of troublesome monsters and evildoers. It was in the Order of the Blue Gartr that Xavier met a man named Daahan. Xavier was impressed with Daahan's strength and knowledge and became good friends with him in a short amount of time. Finally, Xavier decided to choose Daahan as the man that would help him create a following of Yin. Xavier approached Yin about his decision; as a result, Yin was so pleased that Yin confronted Daahan himself. Yin bestowed upon Daahan the task of constructing the Church of Yin; thus, Daahan became formally known as The First Pope of Yin; Pope Daahan I of the Church of Yin.
Pope Daahan knew that he had a difficult task ahead of him. After all, his responsibility was to spread the word of Yin and convert all those who were worthy in to followers of Yin. Therefore, Pope Daahan decided to create the Council of Yin in order to efficiently spread the word of Yin. Together with Prophet Xavier, Pope Daahan recruited the most virtuous warriors and scholars of the land in the Council of Yin. Once the Council of Yin had been created, it was time to spread the word of Yin across the lands.
Pope Daahan and the Council of Yin used the forums of the Order of the Blue Gartr to spread the word of Yin. Pope Daahan stressed the goodness, morality, virtuosity, strength, and wisdom of the Yinnish religion. In a matter of months, Pope Daahan and the Council of Yin had recruited thousands of members in to the Church of Yin. Many people held the word of Yin to their hearts and the popularity of the Yinnish religion expanded rapidly.
