Xenogears

So I just started playing this game about a week ago and it seems pretty nice so far. I just got to the Thames today.

I'm just curious, does the whole storyline pan out? Does everything get wrapped up by the end, like the opening sequence with the spaceship. Before I got the game, I read around on the internet that the game falls apart on Disc 2. I can already see the dialogue and events getting kinda choppy. Should I prepare myself for a disappointment, or is it all good in the end?

Please, little to no spoilers. If you must, at least wait a few posts after the initial responses, so I know not to come back to this topic for awhile.

I guess they either ran out of funds or time to finish this game, but the second disk is absolutely nothing like the first disc.

Everything is narrated and isn't "live"

It pretty much goes from Narration > Battle > Narration > Battle > Narration > Battle and so on.

You don't have the ability to roam freely anymore.

Eh, I hear good things about Xenosaga, but I burning out on RPGs. It'll probably be a couple years before I consider that series.

Xenosaga 1/2/3 has one of the most complex, yet extremely entertaining and interesting storylines i've ever played through in an RPG.

Definitely worth picking up, even though the first two games have pretty annoying battle systems (with 1 being pretty slow, and 2 being very tactical), but they're worth playing through to get the full experience for when you play #3 with its awesome battle system and amazing story that quite honestly left my jaw dropped for the 30~ hours that it took to beat the story itself... so many spins, like omg lol.

I guess I shouldn't have tried Xenogears right after beating Xensoaga huh? Graphics just completely turned me off, especially coming off of high-end PS2 graphics. I'll probably try it eventually, I have it on my PSP.

The game is still entirely worth the time though. It's a great game and the story is very developed in the first CD.

The second CD is just a lot less of a hands-on approach. The story is extremely rushed, but go ahead and go for the completion because it gets a little challenging towards the end.

The story does complete itself, well as much as any f'd up RPG plot line can. There are still a few major WTFs but overall the important plot points do reach some closure.

Its really unfortunate with the way disk 2 turned out... so disappointing. Supposedly the funding got cut for one of the Final Fantasies, but not sure how true that statement is.

I seem to remember the music in that game being exceptionally good.

Yeah you have alot of plot twists on the way, but it will all wrap up in the end, its an amazing game.

I got to the point where you first leave the town... and the intial battles outside seemed pretty tough so it pissed me off and I stopped.

Go back and play it exo, it gets alot easier. If you want I can post a guide for you to make things easier in the first part by knowing in advance what the fighting combos are.

The story in Xenogears is absolutely epic, same w/ the characters, events, etc. The first disc basically plays out like gods gift to man, RPG-perfection. The second disc is drastically different, much more storyboard narrative, but you do eventually get control of the characters for the last 1/3rd of it or so, and the story concludes pretty well.

The second disc isn't as strong overall up until the end, but the overall game is just so impressive its hard not to recommend it. I've heard a ton of reasons for the style change on the second disc, but I don't know which, if any, are true.

I'd really like a Xenogears remake, it would be the most amazing thing ever. I would buy whatever system it came out on if it was one I dont own at the moment. But yeah, Xenogears is fucking amazing, I dont know how else to sum it up other than it being the best game ever made.

Xenogears is the only remake that would get me to buy the PSP. Its that good.

only thing that annoyed me about Xenogears is how insanely hard some of the gear battles can be, until you get a really good engine that restores a lot of fuel most fights and dungeons in gears become a battle of endurance. Not to say they aren't fun or epic, but sometimes fustrating.

Yeah that game actually involved thinking, not just button mashing. Which is one of the aspects of the game I liked most.

Well your name IS Andarvi. But seriously, amazing game. I got it when I was like... I dunno 10 or 11 and I managed to beat it in only a few years.

I actually rather enjoyed the second disk with all of its mindnumbing dialogue.

I enjoyed the second disc too because the story was so awesome, but its definitely a lot different than the first.
