    SAM/DNC?

Now that a few people have a capped DNC subjob, has anyone tried this combo? I was wondering about how useful this would be on a SAM with some Store TP and a Soboro.

EDIT: This topic is for the discussion of possible applications of DNC as a subjob for SAM. Please don't automatically regard the idea as stupid because it doesn't help SAM deal more damage. Everyone knows this. This is about the possibility of expanding the functionality of SAM.

I don't really see how it'd be expanding the role of SAM other then providing low-level dances on a more consistent basis. The dances available as a sub aren't really all that important to purposely nerf your damage for. DNC/SAM sounds more realistic.

what specifically were you thinking you would do?
I mean to say by starting the topic, you have the burden of proving your point, what about this combo is it that makes you think it will work and we can expand from there.

Drain Samba II spam. But I doubt the damage you do would outparse /WAR or even /THF.

I have the burden of proving my point? I'm asking a question. I don't have a SAM at 75 and I'm not gonna get it to 75 in time to test this before someone else does.

/DNC grants access to Steps, Sambas, and Waltzes. That's evasion and defense down, Aspir and Drain 2 Daze, and Cure spells.

Cure III for 35 TP sounds pretty good for a job that can generate that much TP per attack round. At worst, it's probably an effective solo combo.

EDIT: Also, they get the provoke flourish. Could be an effective tanking combo.

Well drain samba could be better for jobs that hit many times and fast like NINs I imagine

    Re: SAM/DNC?

idk about SAM/DNC.. taking a good DDs sub away and turning it into a weird support job doesn't sound good to me.

PLD/DNC could be interesting, instead of PLD/WAR. Really depends on the Provoke and if Drain Samba 2 is worth it.

NIN/DNC could be great for solo, instead of NIN/WHM. Again, might replace /WAR for tanking smaller things as well, not sure how the Provoke works.

I don't think Drain Samba 2 or the Curing Waltz' are enough to replace a DDs' sub but it could be interesting for some jobs. You also have to be constantly meleeing in order for the Drain Sambas and stuff to work, as they leave a Daze effect on the mob, so it would be a bad sub for Mages.

I can see uses for PLD/DNC and NIN/DNC, maybe MNK/DNC since /NIN is just for Utsu. Possibly /DNC for some gimpy zerg job on things like TPburn Kirins. (THF/DNC or something)

It's true I've no idea how much healing they can do, but if you can spam cure 3, you could probably keep a party alive in most situation. Probably not useful in xp setup, but assault, ghrah chip farming, nm camping? There is a lot of situation where a dd/healer could be decent.

I was thinking NIN/DNC also, but for merits. You should never need that extra WS in a full party to kill a mob anyway, so use all your tp on drain samba and first voke. Gives the healer a little bit of a break and allows mp for haste. I don't know how strong dances are subbed though, so it may end up failing pretty hard in practice.

    Re: SAM/DNC?

Curing Waltz cures like 70hp and uses 20tp iirc, idk about CW2, cool for low lvl but meh at higher levels and will drain your TP fast. Drain Samba 2 would be the big ticket and the Provoke for Tanks. It really depends on how well DS2 works on higher level mobs imo.

I was thinking /DNC for tanks for alot of things, not just solo. Tanks don't get much from /WAR other then voke, defender and warcry. NINs do get zerk and DA though for merit pts, so it would be situational. Some cool things like NIN/DNC in a BLUburn might be nifty though, with Aspir Samba.

I think subbing DNC would drastically lower your damage output for any job though. Using 10-30TP or more every min may not seem like much but it wouold slow your WS rate down quite a bit, especially if you are using the Curing moves a bunch.

    Re: SAM/DNC?

speaking of dancer does the drain samba effect work like drain bolts that the hp drained does additional damage or does it work like blood weapon where it doesnt? Also is it a %age or a number range?

So far from what I've read from the Dancer thread, it does no additional damage. You get HP back from what you actually hit.
