    Nyzul Questions

I've looked through a lot of various sites for information and there's still a few things I find lacking. My Nyzul Static officially started last saturday and we had kind of a rough time, so I have a few questions.

    1) How much stronger to bosses on the 20*n floors get as you go up? I know that on the 100th floor the ToAU mobs can use TP moves that're normally restricted (Gate of Hades) and that the actual mobs change. But the only bosses I've fought so far have been on floor 20 and REALLY easy.

    2) Our first 2 runs were extremely hard. A bunch of lamps and kill all, eliminate specified enemies, etc. Just downright difficult. The last 2 were really easy, we finished with 5+ minutes to spare on both trials. So I'm wondering what the average is for most groups on getting missions that they can actually complete fairly easily? We only got 5 floors for half of our attempts, what does your group generally manage?

    3) People suggested getting a pld/nin or nin/etc. tank for the bosses, however I found the boss on the first floor hitting pretty weak with just melee damage. Do you really need a blinker to tank the mobs, or can you have a pld/war do it, or simply have your Samurais use Seigan to rotate hate? And for that matter; do you really even need a designated tank?

    4) How much more difficult do the random floors get as you progress? I know that the mob types and NM possibilities change, but the question is, does clearing become significantly harder?

    Thanks for the information!

    Re: Nyzul Questions

    1) they all seem the same to me, 20 and 40, 60 and 80, 60 and 80 are harder because they are different mobs not because it's higher up.

    2) if we do 4 tags there's always at least one that we get really screwed on and either lose or win with less than a minute. we've gotten one so bad we couldn't finish 2 floors in 30 minutes (lol ninjutsu is restricted, kill all enemies)

    3) we tank with 2 WAR/NINs with a bunch of items

    4) not really

We engaged Cerberus on floor 80 last night at the 10 minute warning, and tore him apart in under 5 minutes. The strength/difficulty doesn't change.

With practice, Lamp floors can become very easy, and won't take nearly as much time. You can still get hosed though. We've had "Eliminate Specified Enemies" and need to kill 6+ Racing Chariots. There is a definite element of luck to some runs.

My group uses NIN (me) and PLD/NIN, but we treat it like a merit party, really. I almost always have Berserk up for the boss fights, and when I get hit its usually for ~300 damage. I'm sure a PLD/WAR could manage, but with our setup, blink tanking is the way to go, so we don't eat as many AoE/TP moves.

I've noticed a difference in higher level "Specified Enemies" floors, with multiple (6+) Soul Flayers, tons of frogs, or mulitple salvage chariots. "Specified Enemies" floors seemed easier on lower levels. In any given run you aren't guaranteed to get any combination of objectives, so it doesn't really make clearing any more/less difficult.

    Re: Nyzul Questions

    1) I wouldn't say they necessarily get harder, you just have to appreciate the differences between the individual mobs. Behemoth, Adamantoise, and Khimaira are not complicated as long as your group is balanced and competent. Fafnir Hurricane Wing requires a little extra Curaga and Blindna attention, Hydra's Pyric Bulwark sucks if you're low on time--obviously don't waste TP during this time. For Cerberus' Magma Hoplon, you do want to use TP if you have it so you can break the Stoneskin and resume gaining TP (melee should have Monarch Drink).

    2) Everyone's first runs are messy. Now my group is at about 80-90% clear rate. The most important thing is having all 6 members understand what the objectives mean so they don't waste time, e.g.
    - If the goal is anything other than "eliminate all", don't aggro anything. Be prepared to use a lot of oil and powder.
    - Middle Land NMs never count for the "specified enemy" "specified enemies" or "enemy leader" requirements
    - The "specified enemy" is no tougher than it's EP-DC kin, the person who finds it should solo and not gather the party
    - The sequence lamps will not light when you activate them--don't panic, this is normal u_u;
    - Don't activate the sequence lamps until the leader is ready to announce a sequence, this can REALLY confuse people
    - Anyone can use the Rune of Transfer to go to next floor or clear the Assault

    3) This will depend on your party, a variety of setups can work. We use PLD/WAR with full defense setup for the bosses, and she takes about 40-80 per hit. A designated tank is good if it lets your DDs spread their wings (esp. when assisted by a THF's TA+WS and Accomplice). If your DRK, SAM, etc. are not accustomed to tanking then they will die very fast when they get hate. Feel free to experiment, just use common sense.

    4) There doesn't seem to be any variation as you go up, just the usual randomness. Some days we clear the 5th floor with 15 minutes remaining, other times we exit on the 2nd floor because the goal is killing 6-8 puddings spread out among imps and mindflayers, with some Aquarius or Serket thrown in for good measure.

    Re: Nyzul Questions

We have what most people call an oddsetup: PLD/NIN, NIN, SAM, DRG, WHM, RDM

But it works for us, don't really ever have time problems and usually hit bosses around 10mins left.

And you'll always get that random 6 chariot or 6 frogs that can charm. Best floor ever was a free floor that gave us tp regain at floor 79.

We had Aqua show up 3 times in one run on "kill all" floors. He's since become a running joke for our group in that we always ask where he is now.

    Re: Nyzul Questions

Finally a good thread on Nyzul Isle. There are enough threads on Salvage.

For boss floors my static always gets Body Boody and TP Wing for DD. Mages always get Cleric Drink. There useful especially if you don't have a whm for Stona. Here are some random tips:

-go with a static, because the learning curve for Nyzule Izle is different for each person. Explaining someone how to activate a lamp can be difficult and it wastes time.
-makes sure everyone has sneak/invis items, saves time and dealing with adds is a pain and a waste of mp
-if your using windower, use the "FillMode" function, it lets you see through walls and makes scouting much faster

There is no "best" setup, just figure out what works best for you. My static pld/mnk/thf/drk/rdm/smn

Mnk is heavy DD and can tank.
Thf is really good against low level mobs and can tank
Drk is for stun, and our drk has a KC. Heh.
    Rdm is our puller Lol.
Summoner can heal, DD and blaze spikes is great against mobs weak to magic

In most cases, 2 mages is all you really need, unless your attempting a boss floor. Our setup has a lot of mp, and we have atleast 1 heavy DD, a monk.

    Re: Nyzul Questions

    We used Nin/War, Sam/Thf, Mnk/Nin, Thf/Nin, Brd/Whm, Rdm/Whm for floor 20/40 bosses and Nin/War, Sam/Nin, Thf/Nin, Brd/Blm, Smn/Whm, Rdm/Whm for floor 60/80 bosses. We haven't done floor 100 yet, but I think we're going to throw in a Blm instead of Smn.
We have to exit early without completing 5 floors maybe one a week, 1/6 runs, possibly less.

We've been doing RDM/WHM, BRD, MNK, WAR, NIN, THF or RDM/WHM, WHM, PLD/NIN, MNK, WAR THF. Since we started bringing a THF, our drop rate has drastically improved (ie, stuff drops now). Currently farming floor 20 for needed feet before moving on (we're cleared to 40 atm). Sadly I think the MNK and I (THF) are the only ones who grab items from the chest before we port to floor 16. :<

    Re: Nyzul Questions

The static I'm with uses Nin, Thf, Sam, Rdm, Brd, Blm for Boss farming runs and the Nin changes to Blu for advancing runs.

We lost our first Lv.60 Boss (Hydra) because he was the one we were least prepared for, but our next attempt we had an idea of what to expect and killed him easy. We've had pretty decent luck on drop rates too, hopefully it keeps up when we start farming floor 80.

Edit: Most of our members (the front lines at least) get stuff from the chest at the start, but don't seem to really check the chests during the actual floors. I ended up with a Monarch's Drink once as Rdm just cause I didn't want it to be wasted (and didn't know what it did at the time). I put it to use by using Moonlight when I had tp at least.

    Re: Nyzul Questions

We've settled into a NIN MNK BLU/THF RDM WHM BRD setup on most runs, sometimes the WHM switches to SAM/THF. Currently on our third trip up to FL100, and have reached floor 80. This disc should guarantee the weapon drops we're looking for when we reach 100 this time around, since it's already got the floor 100 key item on it.

By this point we have things pretty much organized and have figured out how to kill the bosses efficiently. For example, last night we farmed floor 60 on the final run of the evening, Hydra was the boss and by the time I'd SV-Troubadour buffed the melee and mages, he was at less than 5%. We used to have trouble with him and Cerb but that doesn't happen anymore. Askar hands dropped, and we also had Lohar and Spelunker's Hat come out of appraisals - kind of weird drops, go figure.

I think most groups will take some time to get used to Nyzul. Just stick with it and after a while it gets a lot easier, although there are always going to be runs where the floor goals are going to be against you.

    Best of luck.

Only thing that annoys me of Nyzul Isle are the lamps in a specific order. All the other requirements are quite easy to manage except the "Avoid gears!" part, lol.

That's actually a good question. I always assumed it was when you entered the lobby, not the first floor. But to tell you the truth, I have never really timed it that close to find out.

We had an issue with a lamps in order floor last night for the first time in a while. Basically one lamp was activated before the order was set, so we got an incorrect lamp to stay on and it took 3 tries to figure that out. Otherwise I think any lamp floor is an easy floor really. much better than 5x chariot or flayer

Avoid gears isn't as bad as don't kill gears imo. You can always just ranged attack or brd pull the gears in your way and kill them. When you can't kill them, it sometimes gets pretty easy for your brd to get overwhelmed, even with a rdm to help zz stuff.

Time starts the second the badge or whatever its called holder starts the actually run out in the ruins. Well my G15 keyboard always seems in sync with the 10 min marker.

And we're lucky when it comes to lamps, we have all 6 people on ventrilo together, which is what I recommend if you want less losses/more time at bosses. Always seems to be better when I can verbally cuss people out.
