    Car Navigation/Television

So, does anyone have television in their car? Or better yet, a navigation system that doubles as TV?

I have a friend with it in japan and its pretty sweet, but really don't hear much about it here... my work is big on GPS unit's but they just talk about oh my gps unit is so great and it is better than the last one I had.... but does it have fucking TV? no. I'm pretty used to in-dash monitors or flip out monitors that play ps2's or xbox's or whatnot, music and map navigation integrated, but still, even these people that put thousands of dollars into these unit's well they don't have television either.

I don't deal with much traffic around here, when I go to the city I take the train or path or ferry because of ease, and since I don't watch TV all to much I can't imagine watching it in a car... but around LA or where there is mass congestion I can picture these, any of you guys have them?

    Re: Car Navigation/Television

I think it's a dumb thing to have regardless (if youre really the only one ever driving that is, maybe if you drove a passenger to work, or family stuff, and it was something to watch/listen to when stuck in traffic or whatever), even if your stuck in traffic, it's usually not for long, and chances are it will cause another accident, can we ban cell phone use while driving too? handless sets through speaker would be better.

But a GPS that could had normal TV inputs (or vice versa), wouldnt be bad. Seeing that the GPS would probably be the primary use, it wouldnt be so bad to have the capability to plug in other things the rare times you would use it for something else.

But thats just my opinion, I would have no use for a TV in my car, I would never really see a situation where I needed one. Like you mentioned, I dont think many people buy the $1k+ things that can do both GPS, music, and have lots of inputs, I think most people end up buying just the $100 GPS you can pick up from anywhere. I dont have one personally, but im considering looking into them as I am horrible with directions.

Free google maps on a GPS phone > *

Only reason I'd have a TV would be to put in the back seat to keep my daughter happy on long trips.

We have a DVD head rest system inside of our SUV and I will say that it does come in handy when you have a small child for those long long rides. I have no experience personally with TV/GPS system integration but that does have be a bit curious I will admit.

But to touch on the DVD system in the vehicle thing. In our case we travel alot so it come really handy when you have a 5,6 or in my case a 7 year old that gets bored sitting in a backseat for 2-5+ hours here and there on getaways. Mix that with Reading, DS and random talking really smoothes out the ride, so it can be good if used in the proper context.

Now the retards that ride around with an In-Dash tv watching it while doing 80mph on the interstate deserve any bad thing that should come their way imo. Dont get me started on the dumb fucks with the cadillac sitting on 23's with multiple TVs in the very back seat playing Scarface or Soul Plane like I give a fuck. >.>

That's just plain corny if you ask me.

Yeah I wouldn't watch much tv in the car, but its full fleged TV stations with commercials and such. Im not sure what the price of hers cost, cause apparently its alot more common. Shes in a high traffic area so apparently it helps during that, its not like she drives at 80with it on, like retards would do here. And I agree on the escalade thing lol.

I'm just wondering how many GPS units in america really do this? Because not for nothing, its pretty cool. Navigation and backup cameras, music integration and other utils are nice - but also tv? If I could burn the money I probably would lol. My last bosses beamer could do everything but park itself and it was pretty damn cool, if I could afford it easily I probably would as well.

    Re: Car Navigation/Television

One time driving back from Jacksonville FL to Boston MA I setup my laptop on the seat next to me, rode the slow lane for a few hours when I was really, really bored and just watched anime, while driving.

It all depends on how much you can really pay attention to 2 things at once, most people can't and I wouldn't make a habit out of it, but at like 3am to 6am I don't think I had a single 'OH SHIT' moment with another car or even the terrain of the road.

Was like 2 years ago, wouldn't dare do it now lol

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought driver mounted tv's were illegal in a lot of states. Maybe it is/was just illegal if operating while driving, but fine in instances where the car was used for show purposes. I dunno, I just seem to be recalling some kind of legislation regarding them.

Speaking of hands-free cell phone usage, too bad they don't have some sort of built-in hands-free type device with a good microphone (the kind you find on professional studio cameras that can cut out feedback and background noises and make you sound clear as a bell in a noisy car) and can use your car stereo as the speaker. And make it programmable like some cell phones so that all you have to do is associate it with your service and use it like you would your own cell phone.

My car TV = my laptop + car adapter + watch while driving

It's horrible, I know, but I watch probably a movie or two each week driving

I have two 2-hour drives, and the path is extremely straight. Don't judge me.

huh? I don't know about "professional" microphones, but my car does exactly that. Pairs to my cellphone using bluetooth, use the "voice control" for navigation unit as the microphone, and use the stereo as the speaker.

How would that fool anyone? Just show a video of the back of someone's head on the screen?

I guess if a movie was playing a cop would notice it and assume someone was watching.

that's exactly it. put in something kiddy like a disney movie, mute it, and be on your way. works better if you have a suv so you sit higher so they can't see in.
