Is it just me, or do the AA's always seem to favor movies that come out at the later half of the year?

Movies fishing for oscars time their releases to coincide with this. Academy voters are after all human and can only remember so much from the last 12 months.

Only one i'm rooting for is Juno. Rest are pretty well tailored on a tried, trusted and true formula to suck up to Hollywood for an award.

    Re: 80th Academy Awards Thread

I loved Juno, but honestly, how is it up for "Best Picture?"

I don't know, I always think of Best Picture going to a truly epic movie. Juno was great (LMS was better), but not Best Picture worthy.

I think Daniel Day-Lewis will hands down win the Oscar. I thought his performance was good, but I don't know, I think he was better in Gangs of New York, and in this one he's a bit overrated.

I like how Cate Blanchett could (possibly) win Best Actress & Best Supporting Actress for two different films.

Viggo Mortensen in Eastern Promises was good, but Oscar worthy..? I hope they're not just putting him up there for his scene where he's butt-naked fighting.

Best Picture: There Will Be Blood (I haven't seen No Country for Old Men yet)

For those of us that don't get out to theaters very often, what movie is Phillip Seymour Hoffman up for?

I feel sorry for the people up for nominations in best picture, actor, and supporting actor that aren't from there will be blood/no country. They just have no chance against those two movies...

    Re: 80th Academy Awards Thread

Quick question I've always wanted to ask:

Why the fuck does anyone care? I know I sure don't give 2 shits about what anyone other than me thinks about a movie, nor do I really consider anyone who I can't personally slap upside the head's opinion valid regarding movies.

I watch movies, if I like it great, if I don't, oh well. What the hell is the point of wasting 3 hours of your life watching pretentious assholes pretend to care about trophies?

Honest question, not trying to start a war.

He looks a lot like Jeffrey Dean Morgan in Grey's Anatomy with that facial hair. Honestly I've only seen Juno out of the 5 movies for best picture. I definitely want to see all 4 of them now, and Elizabeth!

Right now the alternatives on TV are:

    American Idol repeats
    Inside Edition
    Access Hollywood
    Austin Powers (the first one)
    NASCAR
    Lakers Basketball

    Yeah...

Flipping back and forth between the game and the oscars. And let's not get into an argument about better ways to spend a Sunday evening because we, sir, are posting on an internet board hosted by an FFXI linkshell...

When I first saw the trailer for NCFOM I was like omfg awesome JDM is gonna be badass in this, but then he wasn't listed on the credits on the trailer I was bummed. As far as Grey's Anatomy I prefer his role on Supernatural, though both are deceased (I believe they were coinciding seasons aswell.

Also, watching this lulz fest of a Nascar race, they should call it and finish tomorrow.
