Problem opening POL/FFXI with vista

I just got a new laptop with vista, and it says that there is a problem opening up the program. My father was able to open it in the US, I got it here in Spain, installed wi-fi, itunes, ad-adware, and AIM before I tried to open POL/FFXI. When I went to open it up it gives me the "Problem" warning, and then "We couldn't fix it" (surprise).

Any information on how to open this up? My father unfortunately didn't send the discs over, so I'm sort of in the lurch. I have one of the EU trial discs, so I can install the game, but it poses some issues with info, and I can't install WOTG either. Any answer is appreciated in advance.

First of all, you can't use a NA account on the EU client.. it simply won't work, so the CD you have now is useless unless you plan starting a whole new character and buying everything all over again.

Can you screenshot the error? Either way, I'd download the torrent for the game iso and reinstall POL.

you can log any char in from any client, just cant use EU keys on NA version and vice versa

are you using windower to login? if so disable recast and try again, if it comes down to you needing to reinstall, there is a few ffxi torrents around, also i think aikar has a vanadiel collection(NA) hosted somewhere

I thought the client will reject you if your keys weren't registered for that language? Never tried so I could be wrong. But regardless, it's probably not the issue and I'd reinstall in the client and see if that works.

I've checked and you can log an NA character using the EU disk. I got errors when I tried to update my POL info, and couldn't reactivate my mule, I believe these were consequences of the conflict.

I'm not using windower to log in, it was just the plain POL/FFXI shortcuts, and then the regular load files. I got so far as to get an error number, but I'm new to vista, and it hasn't shown up again. XP was so much easier. I'm going to call my dad and reconfirm that he was able to log on using my computer. Maybe disabling the firewall (seriously doubtful, but some people said that windows defender was causing some headaches with vista). If not, I'll look for a torrent, that failing...I'll have my dad mail the discs while I just play WOTG-less on the EU version. The thought of suffering 3 full-scale FFXI updates in the course of 2 months is pretty frightening though.

It's worth a shot. Disable Windows Defender, Firewall and User Account Control and see if there's any change. Don't forget to turn them back on if it doesn't work

You have to run POL as admin if its not already set to and IIRC there is a special pol client you have to download to get it to work with vista but it seems your past that part so... Check if its set to run as admin and another precaution may be to set compatibility to Windows XP SP2.

I changed the password for the only account registered on the computer (as such, it should be the admin. password and account). I'm just baffled. Where would I go about getting the POL client? They simply have "Reinstall OS" on their website when you type Vista into search.

Thanks, now the big long shot. Trying to install POL Vista version after having installed the FFXI content, and hoping that the stars align, so I can...gasp....sit around for 9 hours while it updates.

Edit: Seems to have done the trick. I'm updating POL and then we'll see if everything works having reinstalled POL after installing the FFXI files.

I am in the process of doing the same thing. i got POL vista version to install and update and i'm doing the FFXI update now.... but my concern is that when i tried to run the FFXI config tool... vista said: "The program stopped responding" so i'm thinking when the FFXI update is done.... it still won't work. I have Vista 64bit so anybody with any input would be awesome. thanks.
