    Test trailer - http://www.worstpreviews.com/trailer.php?id=948&item=0

That would suck because from what I've seen so far, this movie looks awesome.

i hope WB doesn't fuck up this film (i wasn't even aware it was in post-production, let alone being MADE, jesus why haven't I heard of this?)

long story short: the director (spike jonez)'s version received mixed fanfare during the test screening, some parents proclaiming their kids cried, it was too scary, etc. the book was dark and at some points scary, get the fuck over it

kids these days are whiny little bitches, i swear. and it's because of how they're raised by their overbearing parents

Well the grench was long enough and already had a decent length animation, and the cat in the hat wasn't really following a set story but more a montage with the origonal idea of silly cat messing things up blah blah.

Yeah, there was an animation of this film too, but it was only like 10-15 minuts long, if that. It's not like there was a series of books with this concept; there was only the 1 book.

There's a ton of potential in this movie if they don't decide to make this some bullshit kids movie and keep the dark undertone of it. Use your imagination man lol The book may have been 20 pages, but you would only know that by actually counting them. When I think back about that book, I still to this day imagine this big fantasy adventure, having fun with those crazy ass looking monsters. Its like playing with an imaginary friend, it will be hard to screw that part up.

The fact only that they chose to use big Jim Henson-esque body suits instead of fully CG characters tells me this could be a instant classic and not just another disney cash-cow. I hope to hell this movie delivers, its going to disappoint alot of grown-up little boys and girls.

Wow. Just based off of that trailer I can see how this would be an awesome translation of the book. I really hope they decide to keep the costumed performers instead of going CGI. The costumes, espically if well done, give so much more life to films. And to the parents that are upset because their kids are crying... maybe a little scare is a good thing once in a while. Any way I am excited, and hope this isnt ruined by the Disneyfacation factor.

I think a studio needs to be made that ONLY produces awesome fairy tale movies. Meaning, they take a book like this one and make it fucking scary and crazy and make it into a movie that would definitely freak the shit out of little kids, because it has an R rating.

This "awesome studio" as I will call it, would also produce movies like Narnia, and instead of making them all cushy and nice, really make them something awesome and jaw dropping because of all the extra shit they could add in. Make it gorey and gruesome, show the kids who are now teens talking like real teens and shit. Making the creatures fucking insane.

Disney movies at this studio would also be fuckin craaaaaaaaaaaaazy good.

You have a sick and twisted imagination

Not a bad idea though, surprised no one has thought of doing twisted fairy tales movies and etc.

So basically make things like Pan's Labyrinth all the time.

Course, they could also wind up making the Brothers Grimm...

I remember watching Anastia with my niece when she was around six, and she cried that it was too scarey and wanted to watch something else. A few years later she watched it again and loved it. My sister took her to see Narnia when it came out too, but it scared her too much that they had to leave the theater.

I don't necessarily think it's overbearing, as my sister doesn't really keep her from watching any kids movie that's remotely scarey, but she also doesn't force her to sit through things if she's scared. It wasn't my sister telling her not to watch the movie because it was scarey, but that my niece herself wanted to leave. Fear is a natural reaction that works easier on someone who hasn't had the imprint, so they're more likely to be affected by that fear.

I had a chance to see a test screening of this (like 6 months ago) but it was in downtown Pasadena starting about an hour before the USC/UCLA football game and I didn't want to fight the traffic.

Now I'm particularly disappointed I missed it.
