FFXI Sound Error

I have had this weird glitch for a while. Basically, my FFXI music works fine and everything outside of FFXI works fine, but my sound effects, calls, tell dings etc. do not work in FFXI. Is there a setting or something I've missed and I'm just retarded? Or is this possibly a sound card driver error? I have not experienced any problems with any other software, just FFXI and just my sound effects, tells dings, and calls. I have sound enabled and my sound effects volume is at max. Thanks for help in advance.

I had this same problem pretty much the whole month, all of a sudden it started working again yesterday, I don't even know how I fixed it. I think it was after I started messing with the sound settings.

In FFXI under Config -> Gameplay Do you have "Sound Effects" turned down?? I always turn it down when I am tired of hearing my bard songs. Haha.

Nope my sound effects volume has always been max. I actually figured it out, though. In FFXI Config tool there's a setting under sound that says "SoundEffectNum" and a slider. Somehow that got turned down to 12 instead of 20, I bumped it up to 20 and everything works now. Thanks for help though.
