    Laptop temperature problem

I posted this on my notebook forum I normally go to but getting some mixed answers. It's possibly a false read but others are saying it could cause some future problems down the road. I'm wondering how big of a problem it will cause down the road.

Anyways the problem: I monitor my temps constantly and for the I've never had problems (had laptop since last Sept.) but just recently I saw a temp shoot up to 98C which was the ACPI (only the TZS0) the TZS1 was normal.
Edit: That was the MAX it didn't stay there, hovers around 48 or so. It went back to normal after hitting that.

Really hoping I don't have to send it in for repairs but I will if I have to. This has only happened once and didn't really cause any ingame problems as far as I know (maybe a little FPS drop but only lasted a second or 2 then went normal).

    sounds like a false readin.

How long did it take for it to get that high? If it was a couple seconds, or instantly shot up; it's likely that it's a false reading.

For any tempture to skyrocket that highs (within a few seconds), you'd literally have to remove the heatsink from the laptop or something...Not even 100% load would cause it to shoot up from 48 to 98 in a few seconds or at least it'd be unlikely.

Well I was playing L4D, not sure when it happened during the playing time though. The FPS might have dropped when it happened however FPS drop all thetime when hordes come in so I can't say for sure. But the game never shut down or anything. Didn't notice the temp til after I shut the game down.

while paying left 4 dead just try watch your temperatures as your playing using windowed mode. If it progressively raises to 98c it's definitely not good.

Its quite possible to have temperature spikes during heavy 3d applications like left 4 dead. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless temperature is constantly around that.

Have you gone through the simple steps like cleariing vents, etc? Dust can cause problems like that every now and then.
