Coming April 9, the PC version of The Last Remnant will be Square's first Steam release, and will also integrate Steamworks for as-yet-unspecified functionality. The action-RPG arrived on Xbox 360 last fall, with a PlayStation 3 release due later on.
The announcement added that "Square Enix will continue to add to its roster of games on Steam" in North America, but did not specify any other titles or pricing details.
"Square Enix is committed to delivering the best quality titles to PC gamers and distribution on Steam is one of the many steps we are taking to increase accessibility for fans in North America and PAL territories," said Square Enix CEO John Yamamoto.

This is probably more on their strategy to tap into our market some more. Makes sense since Steam is rooted with a US player base and a good outlet to get noticed aside from ad campaigns which will probably by largely ignored.

Edit - I'll jump in that I love steam as well, both the service and the games. I'm still fucking worried about the day they shut down the steam master servers (digitally bought games and games whose master server are provided by steam), but it's a fucking awesome service and the onscreen overlay is brilliant. I very much am a steam fanboy after years of awesome service which, frankly, have been unmatched by any other company.

And SE will always make PC users fire up POL to feel the pain us PS2 lusers do everytime we start FFXI up. So just enjoy the ridiculous story and mediocre gameplay that is The Last Remnant and be content with what remains of your lives.

I probably still have an account with Steam. The last time I used it was to play Half-life 1 when it got the much needed font upgrades and crap...god knows how long ago though.

At this point, it's pretty much the best distribution system out there. I'm more likely to get a game on steam than in a box nowadays, I prefer it that much.

It was pretty bad the first year. I think it's the first system of it's kind, so they had a lot of bugs to work out of it. Steam is like the greatest thing since sliced bread now.
