    Steam RPGs

Hey all, just starting to get into Steam and was wondering if there were any RPGs anyone could recommend. Generally I like JRPG-style games and I'm not really seeing much on here. Also, would love to try more indie-type stuff but mainstream is ok too.

I believe there was some posts (maybe in the news thread) about some recent jrpgs coming to steam soon, but for now you can find one of the final fantasy games and look for the jrpg tag on the right side of the game page. Clicking on that should bring up a list of games with the tag I think.

    Ys: The Oath in Felghana
    Ys Origin
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky

Other than that, I haven't seen many traditional JRPGs on Steam myself.

If you want super cheap mega indie JRPG-esque games. Pick up Breath of Death 7 and Cthullu Saves the World.

Child of Light (wasn't too fond of it though...)
Defenders Quest is a mixture of RPG and tower defense and it's a really fun game
A bunch of the Final Fantasy games are on steam
shitload of RPG maker RPGs on there.

If you like puzzle-unforgiving-Wizardry style RPGs, check out Legends of Grimlock 1 and 2 then also Might and Magic X - Legacy is a good one

there's an indie SRPG called Rime Berta which is pretty bare bones but rather fun. Has a class system and a simple character fusion system akin to Disgaea or something. And then if you want to hate life you can play X-COM if you havn't already.

if you're looking for action RPGs there's both Torchlights, tons of older pre-diablo ones, Adventures of Van Helsing 1 & 2 (with a 3rd in the works), Titans Quest and Grim Dawn. Aarklash: Legacy is pretty fun/challenging as well.

and welcome to steam. say bye to all your money.

Divinity: Original Sin is also absolutely amazing.

Haha yeah I saw Rime Berta, also (not an RPG per se) but star bound looked cool.

Oh and I didn't mention but I'm on mac so that limits what I can play it seems.

Ah right, I should mention both Ys titles are action based instead of turn based, but they're still pretty fun and defiantly worth checking out. Legend of Heroes is turn based though.

Also, avoid Agarest: Generations of War like the plague.

EDIT: Yeah Starbound is fun too. They're going to release an update sometime early 2015.

a million times this. Do not be fooled by the gameplay or graphics or anything. I would also STRONGLY recommend against Banner Saga. game is atrocious

Hey now Agarest isn't that bad. Play it if you have patience is all I can say.

I'm still waiting for Agarest 2 to show on up on steam. It's supposed to be coming eventually.

ed: maybe it's because I already played the Agarest games on 360 and Cross Edge on PS3 that I'm accustomed to these types of games. rly tho patience is all you need for these games

This right here! Best recommendation, also they seem to be trying to release EVERY final fantasy game on there as they even made ports for the DS versions of III and IV. I was hoping to see IV complete instead because of the beautiful sprites and artwork but thankfully there's the PSP emulator.

Yeah, you're kinda buggered. Time to dual boot or get a PC.

Good point. That said, I'm probably going to offload my Xbox 360 copies on Ebay soon so I can get them on Steam if I want to later.

If you pick up Rime Berta, suggestion: Max out RES and VIT for all of your characters you use or you YOU. WILL. HATE. LIFE. when you get to the final battle. Aside that, Chronicles of a Dark Lord (an RPG Maker VX game) by a group of people I personally know and work with and even having my game published by them soon. It's a take on classic JRPGs, so you'd enjoy it. Otherwise...pretty much the good ones have been mentioned.

The thing about tags, sometimes I can find more stuff avoiding tags, like stuff that shows a tag doesn't show up when I search that same tag

Apparently my phone never posted my message earlier. Try out the last remnant. Great jrpg ;o Also i really enjoyed the agarest series but its very niche. and 3 or 2 or whatever the fuck was on ps3? That was a fucking god aweful game that needs to be burned at the stake.
Also, while its not a jrpg, its still a decent action rpg. kind of. Kingdoms of amaluer is on sale on steam for five dollars atm. or the collection for 10 with all dlc.
since this is the steam rpg thread. Has anyone tried the new divinity: Original sin? It looks like a modern day baldurs gate II.

Yeah, it's usually best to search by user-based tags from my experience.
