Though from a different perspective, I feel the same way (and if you'd like to see why, "superior settings" of 50 posts per page are required, else that link won't work properly).
Unfortunately, we cannot expect people to understand without having worked in the industry. As it is, however, Square-Enix's ability to repair bugs, gradually add content (even if in the tiniest bits), and their having released fairly solid expansions is incredibly impressive. Despite their being a Japanese development house which rarely dabbles in PC endeavors,
and FFXI's code having originated in PlayStation 2 development, they've released and maintained a game with significantly fewer glitches than most Western efforts.
This is part of the reason I appreciate and enjoy FFXI as much as I do. Despite the language barrier between the English and Japanese divisions, and even though I generally don't care for Square-Enix as a developer, they did remarkably well with their first MMO. They
still are doing well. It impresses me.
Regardless, the average person will not understand the gargantuan amount of work that can go into fixing what appears to be the simplest error. That's just the way it goes.
