    Gingrich claims Obama's already failed.

Gingrich at Republican Fundraiser Says Obama’s ‘Already Failed’ - Yahoo! News

June 9 (Bloomberg) -- Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said President Barack Obama’s plan to fix the economy through stimulus spending and government intervention to boost companies like General Motors Corp. has "already failed."

Gingrich was the keynote speaker at a fundraising dinner for the Republican House and Senate campaign committees, filling a role President George W. Bush had served for the past eight years.

"Bureaucrats managing companies does not work, politicians dominating the economy does not work," Gingrich told about 2,000 Republicans who attended the event at the Washington Convention Center last night.

Some Republican leaders hailed Gingrich, the leader of the 1994 "Republican Revolution," as a de facto head of the party at a time when Republicans are looking for ideas to lead them back to the majority.

In introducing Gingrich, Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin called him the “architect of the last reform movement” and “the man of ideas.”

Actor Jon Voight, the master of ceremonies, opened the evening with a series of sharp attacks on Obama, something many Republican leaders have been hesitant to do in light of the president’s high approval ratings.
A USA Today/Gallup Poll taken May 29-31 gave him a 61 percent approval rating.

"We are becoming a weak nation," said Voight, calling Obama a "false prophet." Republicans need to find their way back to power to free the nation from "this Obama oppression," he said.

Both McConnell and Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah, who followed Voight, seemed pleasantly surprised.

"I’m still just reveling that someone from Hollywood made a speech like that. I hope you’re going to be able to find work after this," said McConnell. "I really enjoyed that."

Senator John Cornyn of Texas called the speech "refreshing."

Seriously? Actors are now a credible source of political speeches? I thought Obama was making us stronger. Thoughts? Opinions?

It's only news because he's one of the few actors to oppose Obama, honestly.

The opposing party is criticizing and trying to discredit the opposing ideas!? This something unseen or heard of in my lifetime!

Republicans saying Obama is failing! I'm shocked! I thought Democrats and Republicans loved each other and were going to work together.

I'm not shocked the Gingrich or Limbaugh are spewing anti-democratic sentiment. I'm amazed that apparently Jon Voight is the voice of Americans everywhere.

"wow an actor says that Obama's oppressive, this is good for the Republicans!"

I'm just still waiting to hear the GOPs plans and proposals (even just ideas beyond "let teh market take care of it").

So far the only proposal I can glean is prepping for a series of culture-war campaigns in 2010 and 2012.

Not like it didn't happen on a much larger scale the last 8 years.

Sorry I am new to the internet.

Btw, what poll do you guys think is the most respected for approval rating?

So many out there kind of hard to figure which one is in the middle. Reason I am asking is because there are plenty of polls saying he is 40 to 50 to 60% rating, all varying by 10 degrees haha...

The democrats were famously limp in opposing an historically unpopular president.

There are criticisms, and there is culture war. Was Bush ever really criticized for being a "false prophet?"

    Really...

also: The implication that Voight won't be able to find work because of his views. The persecution complex of the republicans is amazing.

You don't have to have a plan to make the case that the current plan is a bad one. (Not arguing that the current plan is a bad one, I just hate that statement. It's equal to "love it or leave it".)

That would probably go to the gallup polls. They always seem to be the most unbiased.

This was the same fundrasier that Palin was supposed to speak in, and decided to no show. So Newt came off the bench to give the sabre rattle speech. Too bad he doesnt have any facts to back up his speech. We wont know for another year or two if Obama is failing when it comes to the economy.

Now it looks like Newt and the Republicans are failing

"Despite the rallying cry, the Republican faithful still weren't opening their wallets as they have in recent past. The event took in a relatively small fundraising haul of $14.5 million, the lowest total in at least five years. Last year, it raised $21.5 million, compared with $15.4 million in 2007 and $27 million in 2006."

I guess the American people still aren't listening to what the Republicans are selling. They are trying desperately to find something, anything to latch themselves too. If they were smart they would go after Obama's lame stance on Gay rights. It really is one of the only things he truly is failing at.

I determine the president's approval rate by gut instinct, polls be damned!

While I do agree that it wasn't very good in dollars, you think that people are being a little more tight with their money because of the current situation? I still think an average of about 100k a person donations isn't too bad though... We have numbers on how many people were in the previous rallies?

You could say though that it should be even more reason to give money to the cause to get that Devil out of office!

Yeah she was there, but she didn't speak like she was supposed to. She was even introduced to the crwod, but she just stood and did her pageant wave.

LMAO @ Gingrich.....anything to stir the pot. Silly Republicans, I swear they're gonna start a 2nd Civil War if this biased, partisan shit keeps going on.

BTW, do any of you ever travel overseas? I've been to London, England twice. 1st visit was when lolBush was still in power, then 2nd visit was after Obama won election. The difference was night and day...

    1st visit to London:

Me, in an obvious American sounding voice: Hi, I'd like a Strongbow cider please.
Local Pub Crawler: Excuse me, are you an American?
    Me: (blushing in embarassment) Yes...
Local Pub Crawler: piss off! (that's British lingo for "GTFO")

    2nd visit to London:

Me, in an obvious American sounding voice: Howdy Mr. Bartender! Strongbow please!
Local Pub Crawler: Excuse me, are you American?
Me: Not only am I an American, sir, I am a Democrat and proudly voted for Barack Obama!
Local Pub Crawler: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! We hated Bush SOOOO much! May I purchase your next round of drinks?
    Me: If you insist!
(insert long conversation about politics, making fun of Gordon Brown and Tony Blair, getting drunk, partying, meeting many London locals, making new friends, etc. etc. etc. and NOT BEING EMBARASSED ABOUT BEING AN AMERICAN!)

Personally, I liked what happened the 2nd time I went to London MUCH better than the first time. BTW, this is a true story, not made up. I'm not FOX News. lmao
