i was born in 1989. i work at a private company providing IT support for several hundred people that work here. i'm the youngest person employed. everyone that is older than me up until about 30-32 are pieces of absolute shit. they are constantly on myspace/facebook/twitter, playing some game, or basically trying to do anything else but work. most everyone here has a bachelors or higher. is it just me or is our generation an embarrassment to the workplace?

That is just the culture of that certain work environment. There are other places that dont work that way. It is a reason people get into that line of work though. If I could get paid to myspace/twitter/facebook, play video games, post on BG......oh wait.

Why is a work ethic even important? If you ask me you're the one doing it wrong.

Getting the most amount of benefits for the least amount of effort is simply efficient.

This is actually my supervisor's philosophy. If research isn't enjoyable, it isn't worth doing.

I can completely sympathize, I would be so upset too, I think what I would do, is take time out of my workday, and go on a video game forum, or better yet into the spam forum and talk about my day at work while I'm getting paid. I feel that this would be productive for my company and also improve the work ethic others whom I so despise.

I'm not talking about workman's compensation, I support that. I'm talking vacation days, sick days, personal days, lol401k, I'm 50/50 on insurance since while you can get through the providers without the company, the plans they give aren't much to write home about.

studies in Europe have shown that a mid-day nap increases productivity in the rest of the day, people's memory pick up at the start and end of strings of numbers or other lists

over and over it's proven that not only do people need a rest/vacation etc but it increaes productivity and decreases stress -- why you would be against something like this I can only think you are talking out your ass
