As of late, I find my iTunes library a bit lacking. I feel like I listen to the same songs over and over again and they are getting a bit stale - regardless of how good they are. I would like to expand my library with good stuff, not just filler. My tastes are kind of all over the rock and roll spectrum but I mostly enjoy listening to "epics" (Or so I like to call them) because they give me inspiration when I write. I like the hardcore metal in small doses but heavy rock for the most part. Some current bands in my library include:
Alter Bridge
Apocalyptica
Avenged Sevenfold
Dream Theater
Lacuna Coil
Linkin Park
Metallica
Muse
Perfect Circle
Scar Symmetry
Shinedown
Slipknot
System of a Down
Tool
On the softer side, I like:
Coldplay
Collective Soul
Live
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Rush
And some of my favorite songs I consider "epics":
I Won't See You Tonight Part 1 - Avenged Sevenfold
Blackbird - Alter Bridge
Welcome Home - Coheed & Cambria
Knights of Cydonia - Muse
Endless Sacrifice - Dream Theater
So, can anybody recommend me some good bands and songs I might like? :D
Church of Misery - Houses of the Unholy
been listening to this CD a lot lately and it's fucking awesome, it's like if Black Sabbath wrote a full album about serial killers!
FUNNY as hell: listen to steel panther. Great band, and really fucking funny.
Edit: don't know whether to classify these guys as soft or somewhat heavy, but Sixx A.M. is very epic sounding, since you mentioned liking that. The whole first album is about Nikki Sixx's drug addiction. Very powerful stuff in here. Here's the link to the most popular track:
Light:
Cynic
Iron Maiden
Trivium
Mantic Ritual (This band is the revival of thrash metal, Kill Em All of 2009.)
Heavy:
Mastodon
Mesuhuggah
Necropagist
Mors Principium Est
Opeth
Cradle of Filth (You probably wont appreciate their vocal style unless your into black metal but try them anyways, cruelty and the beast is my favorite album by them)
At the drive-in
The Mars Volta
Omar rodriguez-lopez(good instrumental stuff for the most part.)
Sparta
Foals (math rock)
Battles (math rock)
Rishloo (alot like tool)
Check out Minus the Bear, you might like them. Genre is called "math rock" but the music is really cool to listen to, give it a whirl. Here's a song, ignore the video cause it's fucking gay but listen to it in the background: YouTube - Minus the Bear absinthe at the fly honey warehouse
Stratovarius
Nightwish
Symphony X
Sonata Arctica
Luca Turilli
Rhapsody of Fire
Epica
Beautiful Sin
Blind Guardian
Derdian (I consider them more power metal than anything, but they are also symphonic)
Some bands I've been listening a lot to lately:
Alestorm
Angel Dust
Angra
Avantasia
Cans
Derdian
Dream Evil
Edguy
Eidolon
Evile
Fates Warning
Gamma Ray
Helloween
Hibria
Holy Mother
Iron Attack
Iron Fire
Labyrinth
Lanzer
Metalium
Nocturnal Rites
Steel Attack
But those are all power metal bands, pretty much :<
Enjoying some of the new stuff! A lot of the older rock I already have on my library (Eagles, Hendrix, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, etc) but I've checked out some Mars Volta, Sonata Arctica, Rhapsody of Fire, Nightwish. Finding some pretty good stuff guys! Thanks for the input. Keep it comin!
