    Windower + Windows 7 ... help?

ok, I had windows 7 RC installed on my computer for some time now. I recently upgraded to retail copy of windows 7, and i'm now having issues playing ffxi via windower on this computer.

Originally, FFXI would bounce back to the POL menu saying there was a issue with Direct3D. I read the thread in this forum about windows 7 support, downloaded the new hook.dll for windower and now POL just crashes completely when trying to play FF.

I'm at a loss here, an any step in the right direction would help.

Yes I did... instead of receiving the Direct3d Error, POL just completely crashes after installing the new hook.dll

check your event viewer log for application crashes, it might point to a plugin thats causing you to crash.

If you are using an NVIDIA video card, could be your drivers.

Also for some people it works to open IE8 leave in the background and load windower.

(I personally cant load windower in win7, but i know is my drivers)

PS: Make sure windower is running in admin mode also.

I'm now at a complete loss, out of ideas. What ive done so far....

*Triple checked windower is set to run as admin
*Re-downloaded Hook.Dll multiple times, in case of bad download
*Installed .Net framework 1.1 as it had success with others
*Have tried 3 different Nvidia graphic drivers
    *Disabled all plugins for windower

......... I just dont get it, it worked perfectly fine when I had the windows 7 beta.

I had to run a video in the background when I opened pol the first time, then it worked after that most of the time. Weird shit, but do w/e works.

For starters, I highly recommend next time going to the Windower forums for support on Windower.

If the IE trick isn't working, try the Windower 4 Alpha trick.

Open up a POL window with Windower 4, then close the Playonline Window. Leave windower 4 open though. Now run the normal windower like normal.

See if that works for ya.

Also, try various Nvidia drivers. Right now the nvidia drivers are very hit and miss with windower and Win7. But whatever was the most current about a month ago is working great for me so far.

All you've got to do to get Windower to work with Windows 7 is the following:

    1) make sure pol.exe, launcher.exe and launcher_gui.exe, are all set to "run as administrator"
    2) make sure the resolution in FFXI Config matches the resolution in your windower launcher script
    3) open up the Square Enix POL Window
    4) open up the Windower GUI and launch Windower (x64 if nessecary)
    5) log in completely to the game (IE: till you're running around on FFXI)
    6) close the Square Enix POL Window

It's kind of tedious, but it will work every time. Until Windows 7 comes out for everyone and/or they release Windower 4, it should work fine. The only plugin that I know doesn't work with Windows 7 is SpellCast, but I don't use it anyway. TParty & Distance both work fine. Anywho, I hope this helps some, it's worked for me flawlessly every time.

The hook.dll file worked like a charm for me, do you have something else that might cause a problem? known issues include crash at FF launch if an IR remote receiver is connected, which i can vouch for happening in all versions of windows.

I'm running the exact same setup from before, only change was "upgrading" from a windows 7 beta, to a retail client. Same video drivers as well

didn't want to start a new thread so bump! I looked around to try and solve this, usually I'm good at fixing stuff myself, but I'm stumped. I fixed up an old computer with a new working motherboard: Athlon x2 64 2300+, asus m2n78-vm, nvidia 8500gt. I installed the windows 7 pol and then copied my pol folder from my other computer ontop of this installed folder. I've done this countless times and have always been able to eventually get it working. Did the regsrv32 stuff and have the registry entered correctly.

When I first loaded on a fresh win7 install, fresh 190.xx nvidia drivers (which works fine on my other computer with a gtx260), I got an APPCRASH: hook.dll when using windower. I went to windower.net and downloaded their current hook.dll, even though I was using the exact same windower folder from my previous computer. It then turned into this error:
    http://i38.tinypic.com/2i12gbo.png
and I cant seem to get around it. I downloaded Directx9.0c Aug2009 and installed it, downloaded C++ redistribute stuff, .Net 3.5, tried a filecheck.

Now, ffxi plays fine without windower (but 95% of my macros are scripted), so the issue isn't the method that I installed pol/ffxi. I had some trouble installing .Net 2.0 since win7 is fussy about it and had me do it through the Program and Features, so I might try to find a workaround to install it manually (but is it even needed?)

    Any thoughts?

Running Windows 7 Ult/64 here just fine on XI with Windower.

-Desktop gadget (calendar) always running. (This is the same thing as the IE trick, except its always running and uses less CPU/Memory from what I've seen).
-Windower has recast (obviously disabled) and I'm using the new 3.4.2 hook.
    -UAC Disabled/using latest ATi drivers.

Only problem I have is dualbox tabbing with a controller (Which really doesn't bother me. I barely play anymore as it is.)
