Running FFXI at a constant 30 FPS

Hello all, I made a post in the stickied Windows 7 + FFXI thread that is very similar to this so it can be deleted (I was worried nobody would pay attention to it there).

Anyway, I have a new desktop PC coming in in a couple days with Windows 7 and a Nvidia card... And just today did I discover all of those terrible lag issues with regard to FFXI and Nvidia... There was talk earlier in the aforementioned thread of Windows 7 possibly resolving the issue, but unless I missed it (which is possible), I didn't see anyone confirming whether this was the case... In the likely event it is NOT fixed, in what ways can I go about fixing it?

I was talking with a friend and he mentioned he was able to install a driver for his Nvidia card that subsequently eliminated all lag... But this was on Vista and also over a year ago, and it was also for a much older card (the one I'm getting is GTX295)... He also seemed suspicious that the change to this shady driver caused it to later fry and require replacing.

The truth is I don't know much about this crap, but I'm totally bummed out to discover this. I naturally assumed (and obviously blindly) that a PC like the one I'm getting would run pretty much ANY game flawlessly. Does anyone know if there is a "fix" for my inbound computer, assuming it suffers from this very issue?

I guess it might be silly of me to even be concerned yet, it's possible I might not have any issues at all... Unfortunately I did google my graphics card and there were several complaints about the same issue. I also read in one of the stickied threads that downgrading to lesser drivers tends to solve the problem. However, from what I've gleaned, these drivers have to support your operating system AND your card. As far as I can tell, the drivers that would supposedly solve this would not be compatible with the Geforce GTX 295 card (and Windows 7?).

With newer cards/systems, I don't think the drivers problem is much of an issue these days. I have a phenom II x4 940 3ghz with a gtx260 and 190.xx drivers I think, with a constant 29.4 fps.

    I wouldnt be too worried.
