    Craps

So, I should be playing Craps for the first time this weekend.

I've learned (as best I can via tutorials online) the basics and the basic terminology.

As far as I can tell, there's really two ways to play.

The Pass Line bet (with the Come Bet centering around the same rules) and the Place bets.

Anyone here a veteran or played Craps enough to know which is the best way to go about playing for a beginner?

I was thinking of just doing Place bets until I was comfortable placing a Pass Line bet, then moving on to Pass Line bet with Odds backing it, and then, finally, Pass Line betting with a Come Bet as well.

Edit: I should also mention I'm not too serious about this, I just want to be a shooter for one go at least and am looking to not lose too much money while waiting for the dice.

Throw the dice hard enough to bounce off the wall at the far end of the table, or else they'll yell at you.

I love craps and play it a lot.

First, start off with the pass line and full odds. It's the best bet in the casino.

Second, know the odds place bets pay out (4/10 pay 9-5, 5/9 pay 7-5, and 6/8 pay 7-6). It'll help a ton. Craps moves pretty fast and the dealers do make mistakes. Sometimes they are in your favor and sometimes they are not. You should know when they are not in your favor so you can say something. Also, know that if you place the 6 or 8, your bet should be in multiples of 6 (as it pays 7-6).

If you are going to place the 4 or 10, you should "buy" it instead of "place" it. By buying it, you get true odds, but you pay a commission fee when the number gets rolled. For example, if you place $25 on the 10 you would get paid $45. If you buy the 10 for $25, you win $50, but have to pay the fee, which is roughly $1 for every $25 bet. So, you would get $49 instead of $45.

As for a tip, I like to be semi-aggressive when it comes to playing craps. On a good roll, if you're betting aggresively, you can make a ton of money. Keep increasing your bets if they get hit. If you bet $6 on 6 or 8 and one of them gets rolled, you can take your winnings the first time, but if it gets rolled again, increase the bet to $12. Consider it playing with the houses money after you take the winnings once.

On a good roll (15-20 minute roll), if you never increase your bets, you could win $50-$200, depending on which numbers get rolled. If you keep increasing your bets, you could end up winning $500-$1000 in the same amount of time.

    Hope this helped.

Yea, I read about things that would upset other players, like saying the word "seven" and that I have to pick up the dice with one hand or they'll have to get new dice in case I was changing them out or something.

    Thanks, though!

It did, thank you very much. There's just one question I need to ask. I am horrible with math, like 3rd-grader level here, I won't even deny it.

Can you give me some examples with placing a 5 Pass line bet with a 10 Odds bet for each of the numbers?

I always see a crowd of people looking like their either having a really good time or not speaking at all, haha. Also, you see it played in movies and what not and it looks like fun.

I just wanna roll the damned dice. Damnit.

whatever you do, do not hold the dice in both hands, you will get yelled at. also dont be embarassed if one flies off the table, happens all the time. might want to start slow with just field bets or small pass line bets. when we played we had no idea what we were doing, we just walked up and put our money where the guys with the biggest stacks were putting theirs. you will get the hang of it really fast and if its a fun table you will be set for the night. last trip to vegas didnt even leave the casino on the second night, just played craps for like 8 hours with the same people and got ripped up.

Yea, I mentioned that above. Picking up, holding, etc. one hand only. Did you do this and get yelled at or something? I kinda wanna see someone do that.

something else i would suggest, is if the point is six or 8, or basically any even number, put money down on the hard way. for example, if the point is 4, its a harder number to throw then 6, with only 2 combinations making it and one being the hard way. This way, if 4 is thrown and it is hard, you'll get paid on your odds for the pass line, plus the hard 4, which in most casinos is 7:1. It also comes down to how much money you are playing with. Also, dont feel intimidated by the board or other players, most people that play craps are usually helpful, and so are the dealers. Because with craps, the fun part is when one person wins, most of the time the entire table wins, and a fun table will go nuts.

Vegas, actually. It'll be my second time there, but first time at Craps. And yea, dude, the urge to be at a table or a chair (for Blackjack) is crazy strong. Thankfully I don't get gambling urges all the time, but when they do they hit hard.

Vegas and AC are nice, but I really prefer gambling overseas lol. I dunno if its just me, but my luck seems so much better when i gamble outside of the US. I hit up this casino in South Korea when i was there a few years ago, made out with 3.5k playinig blackjack there in like 2 hours. Vegas seems to always deal me shit. ALWAYS.

    $5 Pass Line Bet w/ $10 odds:

Point 4 or 10: Pass Line will pay $5, Odds will pay $20. You bet $15 and won $25.
Point 5 or 9: Pass Line will pay $5, Odds will pay $15. You bet $15 and won $20.
Point 6 or 8: Pass Line will pay $5, Odds will pay $12. You bet $15 and won $17.

Is that what you were looking for?

Also, since the house has no edge on the odds portion of your pass line bet, it's generally recommended to bet the maximum allowed. Most casinos will allow you to take up 3x-4x-5x odds on 4/10, 5/9, and 6/8 respecitvely. For example, if the point is 6 or 8, and you have a $5 Pass Line bet, you can bet up to $25 odds.

Another tip: Don't increase your Pass Line bet unless you are willing to take more odds. You would be better off just increasing your odds. For example, if you are planning on betting $5 on the Pass Line and $10 odds to start off (Which is ok. Max odds don't need to be bet. It's just in your favor to do so), and you wanted to increase your bet on the next roll, you would be better of just increasing your odds instead of your Pass Line. $10 Pass Line w/ $10 odds (we'll use a point of 6 or 8), will pay $22. Where, $5 Pass Line w/ $15 odds will pay $23. Same amount at risk, yet more to win. Yes, it's a tiny increase, but it's still more money.
