    Wisdom teeth!

So I had my 4 wisdom teeth removed last Wednesday (the 9th of June.) That's 5 days so far. Although my mouth has improved obviously since coming home, I'm still in a pretty decent amount of discomfort.

I think I have dissolving stitches in (I didn't ask the dentist) and they are starting to hurt my gums along the teeth they are stitched in-between http://images.bluegartr.com/forum/im...s/icon_sad.gif The sides of my mouth are also very sore, on and off becoming more than just a nuisance. I'm afraid to eat anything that is larger than a penny, and/or put anything past the sides of my mouth out of fear of dry socket, or getting stuff stuck in the crevices that were my wisdom teeth. The holes/around the holes are also very discolored, slightly yellow and have some black in areas, kinda gross tbh. I've been living off of mashed potatoes, jello, mac and cheese, etc, and just eating with my front teeth and immediately swallowing. I'm taking percocet right now at night and ibruprofen during the day as well as an antibiotic.

Should also mention I had an appt saturday which was useless. The Dentist wasn't in, nurse just rinsed out my already clean craters, and told me to come back monday (I won't be able to make it due to family circumstances and had to reschedule for thursday, I'm 4 hours away from home atm till then, so hope I don't get dry socket, or that he needed to do anything really important.)

I'm going on vacation on the 27th, almost two weeks. I want to smoke a few cigars (I smoke maybe once a month, if that), and enjoy jersey shore food. Think it'll happen?

How many of you guys have had yours removed? What do you think is the safe time where I don't really have to worry about dry socket, and can eat more normal foods? Did you have dissolving stitches; how long did they take to go away?

TLDR: Have you had your teeth taken out? share a nice summary of your experience/answer my questions! I'd like to hear how it has resolved for other people, and its 2am, percocet makes me bored haha

WTF they didn't load you up on pain meds? I had all 4 of mine out a the same time and they loaded me up on percocets, muscle relaxers, and some anti-nausea stuff. By the time I ran out (2 weeks~) there was hardly any pain left, and Advil took care of that fine.

You should have gotten a little thing to shoot water into the holes and get food out, but you probably still shouldn't be eating anything solid enough to get stuck.

Don't smoke until they are fully closed unless you really want to fuck yourself with some dry sockets.

You can get a dry socket anytime until the wound is completely healed over.

If you're worried at all then call your doc and they'll most likely see you for no charge just to check it out

I'll edit top, but I was given antibiotics, percocet, ibuprofen, and some stuff if my stomach gets upset.
Long story short I let my dad hold the pills for me the first day since I was under the anesthetic and couldnt keep track of what i was doing, and he decided his back hurt more and he took about 20 of the 36 percocets prescribed, in a day. I have 4 left right now, and I honestly don't want to go through the trouble of getting him arrested to get another prescription.
I've had enough of dealing with that for the last 5 years, and he has been completely clean for the last 5 months up until now.(another can of worms, not for this topic, etc)

I'm not as much worried, as I'd like to hear other peoples experiences, etc. I know I'll get better with time; I'm just impatient.

It's still early. Took me about 2 weeks for the pain to go away completely. No pain meds? That's fucked up.

Double post but what's the MG on the pills your dad took 20 of? He's lucky he's alive if it's anything substantial.

I just re edited my OP, half of it disappeared somehow. something got fucked up when I posted it. My dad is (well was, for the most part) a narcotics addict. Had a run in with Oxycontin due to his still progressing back pain, has had multiple surgeries etc. He weighs 260, and has a wicked resistance.

Got all four of my wisdom teeth out about two weeks ago. Honestly I felt 100% back to normal after 5ish days; stitches were mostly dissolved, didn't hurt to chew real food, didn't have any swelling(ever), etc. Lived off of mashed potatoes, water, and gatorade for those 5 days, but it was worth it. My pain also wasn't that bad. I took maybe five of the ~35 vicodin that were given to me.

Black and yellow gums sounds like a mild infection, and I'd definitely try to see a dentist about that soon.

Thing is they were slightly yellow in a spot or two when I saw him, and he said its normal that's the clotting/scab or w/e. It doesn't look much worse now than it did back then, and they didn't make a big deal out of it. The guy is apparently a very good surgeon too so I guess I'll take his word for it.

I'm kind of lucky that I don't need my wisdoms removed because of how they are coming in, but my sister and brother had theirs removed, and I remember them being doped up for quiet a while, I'd contact your dentist tomorrow and as best as you can, say wtf bitch wheres my shit?

We have insurance so no price on the pills really. He's had almost 10 surgeries, 6 of them being back, the rest shoulder, multiple herniated discs, has a titanium rod on part of his spine, god knows what else I cant remember. He was on oxycontin for about 5 or 6 years and its gotten worse from there. I feel kinda bad for him but at the same time I lost all respect for him 2 years ago, so w/e. They're 7.5 mg according to the label

I haven't had mine taken out, but when I had my braces first put in, I was in a lot of pain as well and couldn't chew for about a week myself. I got through it by sticking to liquids the entire time. Lots and lots of water, smoothies and so I could get some protein in me, I abused the fuck out of silken tofu- can blend it in with any drink, or hell, you can even make a pudding like substance by putting it in a blender with melted chocolate, some coffee, powdered sugar and vanilla.

I would suggest calling your primary doctor. Explain you had your wisdom teeth removed, and basically let it be known that the medication prescribed was insufficient for your pain and see if they can offer any suggestions or alternatives. This has worked for me in the past in a similar circumstance, I hope it can be helpful to you.

Sounds like exactly the person I'd have hold my percocet, that's for sure.

I guess you're just having a worse time with pain than I was(which makes sense, since you're likely older and had more developed wisdom teeth) but I'd still watch the discoloration in your gums. Infections in the mouth hurt like hell, more than they are bad for your health. I was given some mouth wash stuff that tasted like battery acid, but it definitely helped keep my mouth clean.

Asking another doctor for pain medicine was a good suggestion too. Or if you think your dentist would be cool about it, you could just say you lost the bottle, and they'd probably give you something else.

Edit: And don't leave Percocet lying around when you have a father who's had a problem with addiction lol. I learned to not leave my THC-based anti-nausea medicine around with stoner friends over.

Saying that shit is a no go nowadays. He is better off saying the script he has is too weak that way he will get something else.

I've had it work before, but yeah, I'd go with saying the script was inadequate first too(actually I'd go with calling the police and/or a rehab center about my father taking a huge amount of my medicine, but he already said he didn't want to do that).

You may have bone splinters in your socket, or you may have dry socket, might wanna go get that checked out.

Hello OP. I contracted dry sockets in the course of my recovery, and experienced constant, severe pain for a little more than 2 weeks straight. Taking 2 percs every 4 hours did little to nothing, and I probably got less than 15 hours of sleep the entire 2-3 weeks.

If you're not experiencing something similar to this, I wouldn't be worried. Especially if you haven't been on percs constantly. I would definitely see your doc though.
