    the beginning of the BigXII-2

    http://texas.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1092612

looks like it's basically inevitable at this point. I didn't want to see Mizzou go to the big10, but it's better than the options that are probably going to be left for Kansas, KState, and Iowa State.

    discuss.

From what I've been reading, Mizzou won't be getting a Big 10 invite anytime soon. The Big 10 is likely going to stand at the 12 teams for now unless ND decides to hop on board and then another team will be added (my guess is Rutgers). However, since the Big East seems to be staying in one piece, I highly doubt that will happen.

Dominoes will likely fall a bunch today and Texas and Texas A&M are meeting to discuss their options, although I feel that they along with OU, OSU, and TT will be going to the Pac 10.

The really interesting thing will be what happens to the Big XII teams leftover. Heard on the radio Kansas might be picked up by the Big East. If so, holy BBall super-conference Batman.

I was going to make a new college football thread for this last night but forgot. I'm excited for Nebraska to join the Big 10. Brings back an old PSU-Nebraska rivalry and the Big 10 gets to be relevant the last week of football with their addition of a championship game finally.

Also lolusc 2 year postseason ban.

Everything I've heard/read in this area has basically said that the big10 has been pondering Nebraska and Mizzou coming in for a couple of years now. Geographically it would make sense, and Mizzou's academic prestige fits right in with the other Big10 schools.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of the pieces fall into place. Expecting the Pac10 to invite Ok, OkSt, Texas, A/M, Tech now since Colorado is already on the way there.

Can someone explain to a college football noob like myself why this is happening? Are these teams just in disagreement with the NCAA so much that they want to get out from under their oversight by shifting conferences? Or is all a financial decision or something

Basically, it's the rich wanting to get richer...the Big10 has the largest share per team from television revenues due to their cable channel, and the Pac10 wants to resign a huge TV deal like the other superconferences have (their FSN deal expires after next season)

Primary motivation is money. Conferences are starting to make their own TV networks (see Big 10) or making cushy deals with local/national affiliates (see SEC). Such deals are starting to easily eclipse the amount of money ND is making with its exclusive NBC deal.

This all started with the Big 10 wanting to expand their TV market and targeted Big XII schools as well as ND and Rutgers for their markets. Add on to that, having 12 teams gives them a conference title game which means even more cash.

Everyone wanted a piece of this pie, and it ended up becoming a matter of who made the first move. The Pac 10 sent out their invites to six Big XII schools and Nebraska soon responded by jumping ship to the Big 10.

Move makes TONS of sense for Nebraska. The Big XII North is the red-headed step-child of the conference and it has to be killing their recruiting. Add on to that, right now the Big XII revenue sharing favors the big boys like Texas and OU, and it was likely any Big XII network would do something similar. Big 10 sharing is all equal IIRC from their network. Plus, the style of football played in the Big 10 is more suited to Nebraska as well.

So really, it came down to being a part of a joke division in a decent conference or jumping ship and getting a fairly fresh start. Once they moved, Colorado made theirs in order to cock-block the Texas Legislature from lobbying hard for Baylor to replace them in the move.

Think that about sums it up for now.

Rutgers doesn't really have a market, though -- they got hot in 2006 and NYC started picking up on them a little bit, but now they're just moderately successful (and unranked) and no one outside of alums and maybe a 30 mile radius of the school care about them. Notre Dame would do better in picking up the NYC market than Rutgers, if ND weren't so snobby about remaining unaffiliated.

Awesome, I love the Big Red, now I get to watch them play Michigan, Indiana and my beloved Boilermakers? This is going to be awesome. I like the moves, maybe now Texas will go to a real fucking conference and stop beating up on bitches and crying for a shot at championships. I hope Colorado joins us in the Big 10 also but i see them joining the bullshit WAC or maybe the Pac 10.

Good riddance to the Big XII and fuck the Longhorns.

Now that I think about it this is Texas' chance to join the SEC and play some real fucking football. There are no SMU's or Mean Green in football country.

Wont happen but my hate needs to be appeased.

Back when I was in East Carolina, there were realignment. Conference USA mainly lost Louisville because of money issues and such. The scale of this though is insane. Really coming to 4 Mega conferences...and perhaps developing their own private league apart from the NCAA. Hell, it's possible.

LOL Good point, I forgot about that, good call. I just noticed something, has anyone checked to make sure that Mangino didn't eat the conference when he was fired by the Gayhawks?

I was born and raised in the heart of Big8 country, so it kind of sucks to see this happening.

Colorado to Pac 10 is a done deal more or less. They had to make a decision in order to ensure they didn't get squeezed out by Baylor.

Missed this, but actually Texas A&M wants to go to the SEC and Texas has already said they would move with them one way or another. I don't think it will happen, but it's an option on the table right now.
