    L4D 2 annouced.

    Didn't see this posted anywhere so-

    Valve hasn't even finished L4D yet, and they're already moving on. I really really hope this is DLC and not a payed for add-on.

    Hoping for an add-on also, or something that can at least be integrated with Left4Dead content.

    Last thing I want is having to juggle the two separate titles because my friends can't make up their mind which campaign they want to play from which game.

    I'm hoping it's an expansion too. As fun as L4D is I'd rather not spend my cash on a full-price release for L4D v2.0 a year after the first.

    Valve need to get on the ball and let us know what's going on with this.

    Personally I'm excited... I have 3 buddies I play this game with and it's always a blast. Here's a copy and paste from the wiki...

    The game will feature five new episodes.[2] In addition to the infected from the previous game, there will be new classes; one is the Charger, a being that is able to temporarily stun the survivors by body-charging them. Existing types will have some modifications, including zombies that are immune to fire, and the Wandering Witch that roams the level until disturbed by the players.[2]

    New melee weapons will be introduced, including a frying pan, baseball bat, and chainsaw, as well as updates to the existing weapons.[2] The AI Director has been improved to encourage more participation by players, forcing players through difficult gauntlets to reach an extraction point, and the ability to alter elements of the level.[2] The AI Director will also be improved to reward players for taking longer or more difficult paths through each episode by providing more useful equipment, such as incendiary ammo, along these riskier paths.[2]

    I have a feeling that because they've gotten the game play down solid that they might use this as an opportunity to develop some kind of actual back story. It's not what anyone wants, but I can sorta see it coming, and it's probably the only thing that would reasonably justify adding "2" to the name.

    What they need to do is develop a technique for the AI director to dynamically generate obstacles and objects in a level so the layout and open paths change every time you play. Just make sure that there are no obscenely easy paths so it is somewhat balanced that way every time you play is slightly different.

    Not really sure how I'd feel about this. One of the things I liked about L4D is learning about the players through the random bits of chit-chat throughout the levels, and piecing things together about their personality and life.

    It also made it easier to just ignore the fact they got stranded in 4 separate locations out of nowhere, since the justification wasn't needed, we all just wanted to quench out zombie blood thirst.

    I really hope this is not a 100% new game on different servers that is released at $50 that would be really poor choice on Valves part in my opinion.

    since the l4d game was originally made as just a little toy based on hl2 engine shit I can easily see why they would make a proper sequel. the game just needed more, this looks like the project theyve been doing based on the massive TF2 enhancements that have been coming along

    sorry guys, this looks like a full game, not a DLC

    I refuse to buy this game for anything over 15$.

    This is DLC at it's best, not fucking sequel worthy.

    This is what should have been in L4D from the start.

    I'm very happy about this news.

    I have hoped there would eventually be a new game comparable to L4D, but with some slightly different game mechanics or extra perks to the game. I felt if they went in a different direction with the original L4D it wouldn't be so fun or the addictive game it is right now. The original L4D is perfect (not counting bugs/exploits), it doesn't need or should be changed other then added extra campaigns.

    I welcome L4D2 and I'm very willing to let valve pump 60$ out of me for a game that I trust to be just as great as the original but with a twist.

    What are these massive TF2 enhancements you're referring to Sono?

    L4D already has the higher-end Source engine running on it, and the only thing I can think of that TF2 has done 'better' is implementing that points system for servers, which L4D could use to filter out all the crap servers with low ping (in general, not based on location) and what not, or modded beyond use, when searching for a server for your group.

    If you paid the full price for 4 campaigns and the 4 versus maps and survival mode, it's idiotic to think that you'd pay for 15-20$ and get MORE than what came out of the box(I'm aware that 2 versus maps and survival weren't in the box but they were free). It's longer campaigns, new campaigns, new super zombies, new AI Director, new weapons, what sounds to be multipath campaigns with different challenges. It's a direct sequel with updates to things people what. Stop being stupid.

    I paid full price for 4 Campaign and 2 Versus maps. There wasn't much else on release. The other 2 maps and Survival were added later by Valve and there's still some niggling issues to take care of.

    A sequel going out full price a year after the first would be taking the piss and the general feeling on Steam was one of abandonment, not something that'll generate good publicity.
