So PS3 only folks, any of you walking away?

    Hello folks,

I bought a PS3 specifically in anticipation of playing FF14 on it. Building a computer that could meet specs was totally out of the question, no way I could afford such.

So today I learned that most of my friends, and the majority of 'serious' players will have at least a six month head start in the game, get to enjoy all the discovery and wonder of that new period when no one knows anything, and will be able to set them selves up and control any markets that will have any profit of merit.

My first gut feeling now is why bother?

I'm curious to feel how others restricted to PS3 access are feeling.

Mods if this is not the right place for this, feel free to nuke it. And sorry if it is.

    Myriads

I'd feel pretty pissed if I was intending to PS3 it.

After a period of victim complex and crying all over forums, whether I would drop it or not would be dependant on how I felt things had gone up to the March '11 release date. I might say I will or will not be playing it before the game's even released, but things change.

    edit: no sarcasm intended.

Seriously, if anything, at least you'll be right in time for the first major update possibly fixing all the bullshit we'll have to go through for 6 months.

I just hate that this is going to make me purchase two copies of the game now. I was hoping to just purchase the ps3 version and torrent the pc version to play it on both platforms.

If I planned to play on PS3 I would also be pissed off, I suppose you coudln't forsee how it was guna play out, although you should of held off buying a console just for one game, espcially when you didn't know the release date for that game.

My advice to you would be sell the PS3 and try and get yourself a cheap gaming PC.

People being upset is perfectly understandable. People feeling that they want to drop it altogether now wouldn't shock me either. What would shock me is if /most/ of those people still feel the same way in 6 months when it finally opens up to them.

Yeah, it's a downer. It's a downer for pc people too, who had people with only ps3's they want to mess around with. But as far as cornering the economy goes, it won't be as bad as the seperate JP/NA starts there were in ffxi, and that game still gave most of us a ton of enjoyment (I feel it's safe to say, or we wouldn't be here/bummed out over this).

And when all is said and done, there friends will still be there to mess around with them in six months, and the whole game will hardly have been explored by that point either. Like the above poster said, the initial kinks in a rushed release may very well still be getting fixed at that point, so there's plenty of original story left to get in on.

If I was in your shoes I'd be really mad/sad, but I'd still totally pick up the game when the chance finally does come around.

Just like how the NA PC players got FFXI before the NA PS2 users making it unplayable for them right?

Sruon is right. You'll just get to skip a lot of bullshit we have to deal with and do a little catch up.

That is more what you should be looking forward to as a ps3 player.

Also, I'm pretty sure after only 6 months people are still going to be "discovering" things and you seem to forget that FFXI for the first months didn't have like 1/10th of the playable content it has today. (And jps were playing FFXI what.. one whole year before NA could? Heck even the difference with Euro players is barely noticeable in this day and age)

I DO plan to play on PS3, in fact, I have no choice, I cannot afford a PC.
    And I AM kinda pissed.

Especially since I signed up for the PS3 beta and have heard fuckall from SE (even a "we haven't started the PS3 selection process yet, but we still have your registration and know you exist" email would go a long way)

And if the PS3 beta starts this month, and concludes before the PC release, it's inexcuseable.

Maybe if the PS3 beta runs for a few months during the PC release and the characters are allowed to move to real servers, or PS3 users get something to make up for the six month progress gap, it wouldn't be so bad.

    Should've bought both a high-end PC and a PS3. Not nerdy enough!

    Then again... I should've had a V8.

SE invited some people who signed up for the ps3 beta, had a friend get in that way.

I was planning on playing on PS3 as well, but after the announcement I've decided to upgrade my PC and start there, and then probably get the PS3 version later.

I'm a little annoyed by it. As someone who doesn't do much PC gaming, I don't have much use for upgrading my PC. But then I remember there are those out there who don't have an option to play on PC, and just have to wait for PS3 release.

As for OP's question, I don't really understand the concept of walking away just because of the delay. I mean, isn't late better than never? Personally I'd rather wait 6 months to start late rather than wait a decade for another console MMO that perks my interests.

In 5~10 years, when we're all bitter and jaded about XIV and most of us have quit, this 6 month delay won't have made a difference. The ceiling on content and progress (level cap, endgame types, etc) will raise. Most hardcore players will be on roughly the same level (several capped classes, some gear that took an investment to get) before the first cap increase, or new type of endgame is added, creating a sort of level playing field. So in the end, it doesn't really matter that you were late, because you'll have ample opportunity to catch up.

I had no intention of starting anything like a "Troll topic" I apologize if that is what this becomes. It's not what I mean. If it's one a mod should lock or remove it.

I was just interested in seeing how other people who are going to be excluded from the candy store feel, now that they know they will get to sit back for 6 months and hear/see others doing what they wanted to enjoy "through the window" so to speak.

Given how many people were looking to kill for an alpha invite, so they could experience things so early, even with all the problems, it seemed to me that the PS3 launch lag might really make some folks feel badly. It seemed important to those folks to be in from the start.

I'll probably play in '11, but I honestly have to say that I was looking forward to being there at the start, learning about how fishing, and mining and other land/hand crafts worked, and contributing to the wiki's/sites that support such aspects of the game. I honestly feel that a major part of the 'fun' that I would have is going to be taken away because I won't get to explore these things from the start.

By the time I get there, where the fish are and how to catch them will be all figured out... etc. I wanted to be a part of that.

I have no doubt that many problems will be solved in 6 months that will be annoying. But how many things like The Christmas Treant event will the locked out PS3 users also miss?

    I'm just disappointed.

I did plan on the PS3 version, but I guess I'll have to suck it up and run that shit on my laptop. Might even go through and build a new PC. Can make a really since one for about $1500, possibly less.

^ dis. I don't think it's QQing to be pissed that pc users would get it first. I DO remember having to wait for FFXI because back then my comp couldn't handle it so I had to wait ps2. And I think that one was only a 3 month difference. I remember when I started I had friends who had already been playing on the pc, and I definitely was carried around for months trying to catch up because they were always one step ahead so always knew what to tell me to do at my stage.

I definitely enjoy starting a game from scratch with everyone else, so for sure now I'll be buying both the pc version and ps3 version.

See, in terms of FFXI it was out in Japan for a full year prior, as well as a full expansion which means it expanded before the US release. FFXIV is a universal release and won't expand which means there won't be any "catch up" to do. The only reason I don't understand the whining is because nothing will be missed. The first few months is always patching the game anyway no matter how smooth of a launch happens, the game doesn't expand till a year+.

So really the only thing missed is "setting the prices" of things so you can rip off people who join after you.

That's the entire point of the game if it's a sequel to FFXI.

so now it's technically half a year instead of a year, which I still say will make a difference. Hell WAR pretty much crashed out within 6 months, most people did everything there was to do in Aion in 6 months. I am not saying FFXI will be like them, but I definitely think a lot of progress can and will be made in half a year for those on the PC. The hard "hidden" info will be the kinds of things that players will still be discovering. But things like quests/the best places to xp/ etc. will all be known. And it's fun to try and figure those things out. For me anyway.

It's not enough to make me not want to play, but it's enough for me to buy both versions.
