    ATI Radeon 5850 problems

I just built my new desktop, with this 5850 card, everything plugs in fine. After I install the drivers from the disk that came with it, I tried to run the FFXIV benchmark. It runs fine on low, but when I try high settings, the drivers crash, my screen goes black for a second or 2, and proceeds to freeze like a motherbitch.

After that episode of retardedness, i went to install the most up to date drivers. After I install them, I reboot, then i get a message saying there's no drivers/hardware cannot recognise them/there isnt any.

So, I've come here to ask, WAT DO?

All on win7 ultimate x64, if any more info is needed I shall provide.

Multiple times, it just always comes up with the error "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"

Dumb question, but do you have a big enough power supply? If you go to the device manager and under display adapter does it list the card?

Sounds like a power issue. Try checking for 2 things:
    1) Disconnecting other hardware like cd rom etc and see if that gives any improvement when you try to run the benchmark
    2) Check if it has more then 1 auxillery power slot on the card. You might have just plugged in 1 while it may have 2.

Uh, its a 750w power supply, so i think it can run it fine.

@2 though, my PSU only has 6-pin connector, so i had to use a converter to a 4 pin one for the second plug, could that be the problem?

That shouldn't cause a problem unless the converter is bad.
