    Problem Installing Software -_-

I must be overlooking something here.... maybe not though.

    I successfully installed FFXIV.

I try and run the program from the desktop and I keep getting an error window that pops up.

    "FFXIV has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Only option I get is to "Close program".

Same thing happened when I tried to download and install the open Beta, and eventually just said Fuck It and waited for the full version to come out.

Not sure what information you guys might need aside from the fact that the system is a Vista Computer.

What's the graphic card? Odds are that you can't run it.

You can try reinstalling the game if that's not too much trouble, or checking for faulty memory.

Post your PC specs as well.

I found some other solutions to try as well on here. Will try those quick and report back here.

Where the hell do I find out what graphics card the computer has? I found all the other specs.

Start menu > Type in dxdiag and run it. Your graphics card should be in the Display tab.

From Dxdiag screen under display it has the following:

    Intel(R) G33/G31 Chipset Family
Chip Type: Intel (R) GMA 3100
    Approx Tot Memory: 286 MB
    Current Display Mode: 1440 x 900 (32 Bit) (60HZ)

Edit: I'm a noob with computer stuff, but it seems the graphics card on this thing is a piece of shit... yay or nay lol?

Yes, you don't even have a dedicated graphics card, meaning you are using the lowest of the low.

    Ok then.

Next question would be what do you guys recommend? Can I find anything for less than a couple hundred bucks? I should be able to install the card with very basic computer knowledge right? Pretty sure they just plug in once you have the tower open?

Best option would be a new build but...

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130562 GTX460
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-018-_-Product 700W PSU

    Alternatively

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-898-_-Product 5770

These (the GTX460 at least that I know of, I never use AMD-ATI...) runs FFXIV very well and if you ever make a new build you have the PSU + GFX already

Also, yes it's possible to build with 0 knowledge, Cairthenn is the living proof

It's a pretty beefy card, so I hope you have the clearance for it.

Look at these videos for a visual representation of how to install the two components your looking to install/upgrade.

This video if by ATI and gives a pretty good showing of how to install 2 different types of graphics cards...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9x097QRXeA

This video if by Tiger Direct. Very good video, the guy explains about PSUs and what each connector does. Also shows him installing it, which is ridiculously easy.

Just make sure you UNPLUG your machine before you work inside it. Also, grounding yourself is a good idea, all you have to do is be touching a metal part of the case while your working inside.

    Also, look at this link:
    http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&e...w=1600&bih=707

These pics give you a representation of what's what in the motherboard.

Ultimately just search You-tube or google what your trying to work on in your PC.

Hope this gives you some help.

Well depending on the card, but generally yes. Assuming you have a prebuilt from HP or Dell or something, you've probably got a 300~watt power supply. A GTX460 requires at minimum around 450-500watts.

You will need a good enough power supply to handle the card and all of the other components, but nothing over 600 watts. 500-600 is sufficient for your PC.
