    Dead Rising 2

Spotted this over on another forum and was surprised to see there's no thread.

Kotaku: Viral: Could This Be Dead Rising 2?
This just popped up all over the net. Our take? Too slick, too inside to not be a real, brief, tantalizing taste of Dead Rising 2.
Capcom logo, blatant scenes from the first game, and a dude in a Gladiator style hamster ball mowing down zombies in a Vegas Casino, can only be Dead Rising.

Just wondering is Frank is going to be the protagonist this time and which ending to the original was the right one.

God damn it's about time we got something new about this. Seriously hoping for some sort of multiplayer this time, I'd kill for even just local co-op. Hamster ball will be hilarious, but knowing Dead Rising it'll suddenly dissapear as soon as you hit 10 zombies.

About fucking time they got off their asses to do the sequel. Hopefully they still have Frank and Isabella in it. I actually liked both of them.

The fucked up part is, it's in development for 360 and PS3 yet the original has yet to be announced for PS3 let alone released.

    Fuck. Yes.

I wonder if anyone is going to do a zombie game based on World War Z. There is so many great scenarios in that book, it would be a fucking crime not to make a game out of it.

And? Just because the sequel is coming out for the PS3 doesn't mean the original is. It's not fucked up in the slightest.

I'd say it's almost guaranteed to be released at some point. Just for the simple fact that PS3 users playing the sequel will want to know how the first game ended and that could mean a good bit of cash for Capcom.

Dead Rising 2, which is set to expand to the PS3 now as well, takes place a few years after the terrible invasion of Willamette in the Vegas-esque, Fortune City. Since the terrible outbreak of Willamette, zombie invasions have plagued the United States with outbreaks reported throughout the whole country.

No camera in sight, maybe they're just planning ahead for a Wii port this time.

Well, it isn't hanging around his neck, but cameras can get really small nowadays, or he could even use a camera phone.

A lot of people are speculating about a camera phone being involved. It could be both the walkie talkie from the first game and the camera in 1 little package. Also I'm pretty sure at this stage, if a Dead Rising port to the PS3 hasn't been announced yet, it's unlikely that it's gonna be released. My guess is there is gonna be some pretty opening cutscene like the video at the top of the page that will chronicle the events of the first game and what has happened since it has ended.

Dead Rising was released before the PS3 launched, which is probably the major reason it's not on the PS3. And Capcom likes to release games for only 2 out of 3 systems for some reason. The story isn't so much of an issue in this game, sort of similar to Resident Evil games. There's a zombie outbreak. If you know the details, great, if not, kill zombies anyways.

I am excited as fuck for this game, and that was before I read this thread and even thought of the possibility of multiplayer.

IGN: GDC 09: Dead Rising 2 Multiplayer Confirmed
Fuck. Yes. Multiplayer wasn't specifically announced, but apparently we could be looking at up to 6000 zombies on screen at a time during "multiplayer sessions", crossing my fingers and toes that it's true. Don't really believe they'll ever get 6000 on screen, not that it would really matter, once you've got a few hundred zombies surrounding you any more won't really mean much! The new engine will also apparently track over 800 clothing textures at a time, so each zombie will look much more unique unlike Dead Rising 1.

I can't escape zombies! Multiplayer (as long as it's co-op which it most likely will be) will be tons of fun.

played the 1st one for the 1st time the other week, never even heard of the game before (cause I dont own an xbox) and holy shit was the game fun. so glad the second one is coming out on PS3. just hope they make a better save system, and I found all the human fights a tad bit annoying and not much fun.

Looks like it's shaping up very nicely.

Dead Rising 2 Preview - Page 1 // Xbox 360 /// Eurogamer - Games Reviews, News and More

Blue Castle began by refining the technology to vastly exceed the impressive 500-zombies-at-once baseline set by the first game. As new protagonist Chuck Greene - a former motocross champion on a mission - slices his way through waves of shambling undead on the Las Vegas-style strip at the heart of the game's new setting, Fortune City
Brady hits a few buttons and fills out the screen. At first with 1,000 zombies - twice what Dead Rising could do, and nowhere near enough to trouble the game engine - and then with 2,000, and eventually 7,000. The frame-rate dips to compensate, but not to unplayable levels.
There are baseball bats, guitars, bar stools, and roulette wheels grabbed from the tables of a small casino off the strip. Costumes return too... donning a moose head, which can be used to mow through zombies, or tusk them into the air.

A propane tank with nails sticking out of the sides, for example, can be attached violently to a zombie, who then gets up and shambles around. Chuck backs away and switches to the rifle, targeting the propane tank sticking out of zombie's back and blasting everything in the vicinity to pieces.

The bucket returns, only this time it has three handheld powerdrills stuck through the sides. When Chuck slaps it on a zombie, it shreds its head in a shower of gore and then falls to the ground once the skull pops.

There's a double-ended paddle with a chainsaw strapped to either end, which Chuck swings as though he's rowing through the sea of zombies. And in finale, there's a motorbike with chainsaws attached to each of the handlebars
The way in which the chainsaws go to work is another technical improvement, with a procedural system designed to cut where you actually cut, which hacks off limbs and the tops of heads among other protrusions depending on Chuck's position relative to your shambling target. A downward strike cleaves from skull to groin, and the remains peel apart and slump. There's blood everywhere - and the way blood splatters and flies, and seems to slow as the particles thin out in flight, is another subtle pleasure.
Inafune won't comment directly on the return of photography or mission structure, but says he and Blue Castle want to "keep 100 per cent of what made the first game good, and lose 100 per cent of what got in the way". They are considering using the 72-hour period of the first game again, and the divisive save system is being thoroughly contemplated behind the scenes.
7,000 Zombies on screen with minimal FPS drop is going to be insane if it works well in the final release.

Wonder if the PP system will be based on stunts seeing how the protagonist is a Stunt-Man this time around.

God, I cannot wait. That was the biggest knock my buddies and I had about the game. Lack of multiplayer. Seriously, cannot wait. I really hope they get rid of the time based story mode. It never let you fully explore and do the things you wanted to do if you still wanted to complete the story with the full ending. Hopefully they change it, but even if they don't it will still be a phenomenal game.
