    Slow on mobs does NOT cap at 100%

    I feel crappy making a thread for this, but it's been circulating that Slow from magical sources caps at 100% on mobs. This would mean that Saboteur + Slow II + Elegy caps at 100% slow. This is NOT true.

    I ran a very basic FRAPS test to check this. For those unfamiliar with my methods, I use fraps to record a mob's attack animations over a variety of attack rounds and get an average delay in frames. The accuracy is not precise enough to get into x/1024th detail like I can /w recasts, but it's enough to make general observations.

    Mob used was a Zu outside Abyssea-Attowah.

    Control Test:
    10 Attack Rounds: 1223 Frames
    Average Delay: 122.3 Frames (~4.08s)

    Saboteur Slow II + Carnage Elegy:
    10 Attack Rounds: 2654 Frames
    Average Delay: 265.4 Frames (~8.85s)

    265.4/122.3 = ~2.17 (117% Slow)


    It seems fairly conclusive that the slow term does not cap at 100% for mobs~

    So basically, slow2 merits beyond the first are undoubtedly worthwhile?

    Having more than 110% slow is a bit less than worthwhile.

    This contradicts my prior testing.

    I need to go out and do it again, to see if they changed Sabateur, because I *know* In my prior testing (pre-sabateur alteration, when it worked on Bio and didn't work on gravity), I was getting attacked exactly half as often with Sab Slow II + Carnage Elegy as I was at base.

    I tested twice, and the difference between 100% and 117% is substantial so I'm fairly confident in the results. I haven't seen your testing or results so I apologize in advance if I sound condescending, but did you use a high number of attack rounds? I imagine it'd be easy to miss otherwise. I used 10 attack rounds for my testing which gave 1223 frames total over 10 attacks, which is about ~40.77s. This would mean ~81.54s if the cap was 100% slow. My Sabo+Slow II/Elegy showed 2654 frames total over 10 attacks, which is about 88.47s. ~7s difference between that and the expected 100%. All that aside I never bothered to test it until this morning, so it's quite possible SE just changed Sabo.

    Right about in-line with denying the mob 1 extra swing per 30minutes for an extra para merit.

    I used the entire duration of Sab Slow II + Troubador Elegy, so 6 minutes worth of attacks.

    I'm doing it again right now, so we'll see if they changed it.

    The next logical step is to get a RDM with ridiculously high MND and a decked out BRD to Soul Voice that Elegy and see if there IS a cap and where it might be.

    Soul Voice doesn't increase potency on Elegy.

    and and MND caps low enough that anyone should be able to hit it on testing mobs. The real next step is to Earth shot some shit.

    Like Foldy said, SV doesn't increase Carnage Elegy's potency. The test I ran was on weak mobs, so dMND was capped on Slow II, but she only has 1 merit in the spell. 4 merits and assuming 2x potency from sabo would mean ~8% more slow. So you should see around ~125% slow on the mob in capped conditions.

    I was under the impression earth shot didn't work on Slow II, only slow I? One of the many things I never got around to being able to test

    No debuffs: Savana Rarab gets 85 attacks in 6 min (old) 86 attacks (new)

    Old test: 42 attacks in 6m w/ Sab Slow II + Elegy. ~100% slow

    New test: 38 attacks in 6m w Sab Slow II + Elegy. ~126% Slow

    So yeah, they changed Sabateur. Which is nice, as now I don't actually need to drop down to 1 merit on it (am 5/5 atm).

    Edit: went back to double check, miscounted by one.

    True, but this should be the final nail for anyone who was thinking about meriting something like bio3 after unlocking para2, slow2, and putting a couple of upgrades into dia3. Still a pretty small increase, but at least now we know it's an increase.
