    Routing Xbox360 Question (Wireless)

Hi all. I use a wireless bridge made by linksys to connect my xbox360. The only problem is that sometimes my linksys router gives it a different IP and I find myself having to forward ports to the new IP before I can host games or join a party.

Is there any way to make it a static IP even though the bridge only technically turns on once the xbox does?

    Thanks in advance.

Even if it's connected via the bridge I assume you can control the router, yeah? You should by all means be able to statically assign an IP through DHCP. The MAC address can be found in the system or network settings and that should be all you need.

I was able to manually assign an IP (funny that it didnt work before). Seems to be holding up for the time being, however I am not seeing the xbox in my DHCP table... is this normal?

It's not normal but it could be a software bug, especially if it's operating properly. Either way, assigning a static ip or enabaling upnp is the way to go in this situation.

The DHCP table for the main router doesn't show the IP from the xbox that's connected to the bridge? Is the bridge on a separate subnet? Also, are these dd-wrt or tomato-flashed routers by chance?

That probably means they aren't flashed then since it's something you'd have to do yourself, but as long as it's working I guess it's not a big deal.

Static IPs aren't assigned by DHCP by definition, so no, you wouldn't see it on the DHCP table.
